Introduce myself

Hey y’all,

I’d like to introduce myself and give a little background as to why I’m here.

I decided to look for a site where I could talk to others about what’s going on in my life without being judged or told what to do rather than helpful suggestions and advice.

I served 20 years in the United States Army, I joined as soon as I was 18 and recently retired. To be honest the last 2 years I spent healing, learning to walk again and trying to learn how to adjust to being a civilian. The civilian part is very difficult for me; I’m extremely uncomfortable in large crowds, restaurants and pretty much anywhere that isn’t my home or surrounded by military. I find myself lost in depression most days unable to do anything. I go to the bullshit VA meetings to talk about “my feelings” but that’s a joke. I have no purpose, no drive and a feeling of being lost. During my 7th tour in Iraq my wife left me for my so called best friend, luckily we have no kids but I live in a small town so we frequently see each other in passing.

On my last tour (9th) my unit came under attack and I was struck numerous times by shrapnel and just about everything else that was blown to shit. I lost my right leg from the knee down along with some fingers on my left hand. A bullet ripped through my left shoulder severely damaging nerves and tendons so I’m left with limited motor skills.

Alright! I passed that test! I was able to write a little about it. Yes!

Not sure how many Veterans if any are on this site but feel free to talk to me; that goes for anyone else as well. I look forward to meeting some of you.

Take care

RemeberTheName, Thank you for your service. I am so glad to Welcome you

to this very caring support group. I am not a veteran but have volunteered my

time with Hines Veteran's Hospital (Chicago). During that time, I met many men

like yourself, who gave of themselves for their country. I worked in the Paraplegic

ward and was amazed at their resilience even though I knew most of them suffered

from PTSD.

We do have other veterans on this forum who I'm sure will reach out to you.

I am so glad that you are here with us. Thank you once again :) xx

Thank you Agora1 and You’ll truly never know how much you’re appreciated for volunteering to help us. From experience I can say it helps to have real caring people help us through. Doctors are very clinical when talking to you so it makes it easier. God bless you

You are very kind to say that. I've worked in hospitals all my life and believe me have

received more than I have given. I think you will receive a lot of support, understanding and caring by the men and women on this site. We all have a journey

to share which helps make us feel so not alone. :) xx

Hi. Welcome to the forum and I personally thank you for serving our country. I posted about 2 wks ago about mental health advocacy groups and the VA was part of my post but I'm not a veteran. What you shared in your post must have been hard to write (I cant even imagine going through that) and i hope writing it helped some. That's why I'm on this forum because I got tired of the judgement, the so called helpful suggestions and while living in a small community. So I have just stopped talking. Even here I have been vague in fear of judgement. Maybe your on to something about just getting it out there. I hope you have a good evening and a good day tomorrow.

I am not a vet but am a mom of one. My son suffers from PTSD and has some disability in his knees and hearing but it's his mental health that was hit the hardest. He had a total Psychotic break last year. Hes definitely on the slow road trip recovery now but it's been a long painful journey. I always pray for everyone in our armed services. In the aftermath far too many vets are lost to suicide.

You are brave to share all this. I am very new to the site. I hope you are able to give and receive here.

Thank you for your service, I'm sorry it came with such a high cost.

First I'd like to THANK YOU for the SACRIFICE you made for our Country 🇺🇸. I have 2 brothers who are Veterans, 1 served in Vietnam and doesn't want to talk about it. I respect that so I don't pressure. The other one was Lucky he served in Peace time, but still 25 years later he has the military mentality. Secondly Welcome to this site, this sites pretty good about Not judging, but you might get 1or 2 that might? I just respectfully put them in Check...done. So SORRY for what you've been through in your personal life. I've been suffering with anxiety and depression off and on for about 36 years. My first time trying to commit Suicide at 16, wasn't successful, thought taking any pills would do the trick? Several months ago I was looking for a gun, Man that's not a easy thing to get? Just know pretty much we're here for you, write when you need to. My main suggestion to you for dealing with your personal Life, is to Avoid talking to any friends and family anything about your you're Emotions, they don't want to hear it, nor do they understand what your going through. My own kids have chosen to isolate me as a way of dealing with me. A friend of 40 years doesn't talk to me anymore. Which is fine, which shows she was Not truly a friend. PLEASE don't give up on therapy. If you need to vent, PLEASE do. Would like to know how you're doing 🇺🇸🙂

Hi Want2B. This site is a good place. I did have one person judge and told me I should do ...... and if not I'm a liar. I put that person in their place and did get an apology. For talking about things with friends for me - NO . Way too much judgement, I should do this comments. I only have so much energy and need it to do what I have to get done. Please keep talking here as well. Hugs!!!

Hi, welcome to this site. I suffer from depression and PTSD and hate being large crowds. It is good that you have a supportive family. I have two German Shepherds that are beyond spoiled. I’m sorry to hear about your injuries if you ever need someone to talk to I am here.

There is a relations ship that forms between Guys and Girls I guess, that Have Showered shaved and shit together been taken apart as individuals and reformed as a unit so you know you will do your job your buddy will l do his job with out question. I lived and grew up as the ward of those Guys and Girls with the security it gave me . That connection really dose not exist in civy street, So they need a bit of sympathy because they can not understand what it is to own that connection let alone lose it. Hey Nine tours not sure what your standard tour is but if is 6 months that,s allot of months. even in a none conflict situation.
