So before I went into work I took my xanax. Half of a .25 and holy crap. I started to panic. I felt myself relaxing and getting drowsy. I start panicking because I wanna go to sleep and am scared I was zoning out.
Convinced I was overdosing.
It's just blowing me away, that my anxiety meds are making me EVEN MORE PANICKY

Xanax was no good for me and even worse getting off.
Honestly depends on body chemistry and everything, and I’m not a medical professional so in a way my advice is nil, but odds are you’re not overdosing on a prescribed amount(yes its possible but very rare) that’s probably just the anxiety talking. seek medical attention if you’re at an uncomfortable level.. other than that it sounds like you need to express your concerns to the prescribing physician.
Don’t give up looking for what makes you feel better.

Agreed with this. Ativan made me feel worse....Xanax worked. Klonopin didn't make me calm, just tired. It just may not be the med for you. Also agree that you probably had, as Neuronerd proposed, an adverse reaction. Like your situation, Ativan freaked me out. Stopped it immediately. Make a call to your doctor ASAP so they can try something else and that they're aware this medication and you just aren't that into each other. It happens with other medications in different classes. I believe the pamphlet for a lot of benzos includes, "Call your doctor if your anxiety is made worse by this medication." I would agree with others that taking it in the morning when you're still waking up might also cause an issue. It can make you sleepy and make it difficult to stay awake (a lot of benzos are also called tranquilizers). This in turn can you anxious or panic over what's going on and why. Melatonin once did this to me when I was having some insomnia....I suddenly did a head nod down, woke up completely awake, and had a WTF response. Then it hit...the melatonin. No matter what, if it isn't helping because of how you feel, definitely make a phone call to your doc. Best of luck and I hope you find a better answer for you soon!
Were you advised to take it in the morning? I never take meds in the morning. Always take at night before sleep as the whole point is to make you relaxed and drowsy. I would consult with your physician again.
All meds and supps can have side effects. Psych suggested SAMe. Warnings include could have side effects of anxiety, etc. I've learned my individually sensitive body can only take 1/2 of the lowest dose available so that's where I start. Don't go out before a couple of test runs so I don't freak out in public and go emotionally bonkers.
Drs, say it takes 4-6 weeks for meds to adjust. Sometimes I can't make it thru day 4 before the adverse effects set it. Then it can take a week or more to clear the system.
