Scared to take my xanax

I'm prescribed .25

Too nervous to take it as I hate being sedated or not having full control over my mind. This is really hard for me to do, I want control over how I feel.

Please give me some insight and if you had a good experience please tell me. I could use the hope. My anxiety is killing me man

When I was first put on 0.25mg of Xanax, I took only 1/2. Like you I wanted

to feel some peace and calm but yet feel in control. Xanax works fast and is

short lived. Your body will adjust to the feeling where you will no longer feel

afraid of it as it will give you some relief. Believe me on that small dose of 0.25mg

you will still be in control of your thoughts. I hope you give it a try. You may be

pleasantly surprised in how well you will feel on it. :) xx

Hi there!

I have been prescribed .25 Xanax in the past, and I was scared at first too, and thought it could alter my feelings and would be In no control.

When I have taken it when I needed it, i just felt fine. It took away the attack I was having and that’s all. No “high” or mind-altering affects. It’s such a small dose, I guarantee you none of that will happen.

I hope this helps :)

I don't take xanax but I've tried going without medication and have found myself in inpatient treatment. I stopped for the same reasons.

I would share how it makes you feel with your doctor and get his feedback it might be temporary or there may be an alternative.

I don't take this one but sertraline which I guess is similar? I am in full control of my own life and don't feel sedated at all. x

I take gabapentin as needed (I had asked my psychiatrist about xanax and she thought we should stick with gabapentin for a while because it's a bit more conservative). It is not always perfectly effective, but I am pretty happy with it and I don't think it is common for you to feel mind-altering symptoms like it can be with xanax. Could be something to ask your doctor about. There's plenty of alternatives out there so don't lose hope if you try the xanax and it isn't what you want. Good luck!

If you take Xanax when you are really feeling a lot of anxiety it brings you back to a more normal state of mind. If you took it when you were feeling normal it would make you feel sedated. .25mg Xanax is not a large dose. If you feel better, take half of it and see how your body reacts to it.

I love my Xanax 🙂 I started out taking only half of .25. I take one to sleep. For me, Xanax makes me calm but sleepy. Not that I can’t function or anything. You are in control..just calmer 😌 I always try new meds on a weekend when I’m not working. And don’t forget not to run heavy equipment 😁

Agora1 is right, it is short lived so if you take it and hate it you don’t have too long to wait til the feeling is gone. And 1/2 of .25 is not much.

I don’t like feeling out of control either 🤪 and this won’t do that.

But meds work different on everyone. This is the only thing that really works for me.

Xanax and chocolate gets me through life and nobody better try and take either 🤬

Xanax has helped me deal with my anxiety. Yes, it’s highly addicting. I could care less. Instead of fogging up my mind, it stops the anxiety so that I can think. .25 is as small a dose as one can take. Good luck!

You’ll still be in total control it will just relax you and maybe make you sleepy. It’s been a life saver for me on many occasions.

Take it, you’ll be fine.

I sure can relate to your fears. Went thru 4 yrs of testing all the meds in the marketplace. They all made me feel loopy and I like to be in control of my senses. Maybe that's our problem. We want to have the Control. I'm talking about Control of ourselves not discussing control over others.

And why not? We deserve to be able to take care of ourselves. Let's hear what others have to say as they try to walk in our needy shoes. That's why we are on this site- sharing is caring.

I do suggest taking 1/2 dose to see how that goes. Learned I have a rare sensitivity to Big Pharma Meds. Maybe that is what is going on with you too?

Some help is better than no help. Taking 1/2 of lowest dose Valium, which is not supposed to be given to Adult Seniors. Too addictive. Not safe. I've been taking 1/2 for 2 years. Every body is different.

I'm grateful that you are seeking help and willing to listen before deciding on a course of action. Talk therapy helps a lot.

Hi there why are you afraid of the meds there's no need to be they really help you feel better have you been taking them for long you don't loose control of your mind or otherwise! Try and not look up it on the Internet it will make you more anxious! I wish you all the best david

Have you tried splitting the .25 in half? And take with plenty of water. I’ve been on Xanax for many years and it’s a great medication if used responsibly. I’m prescribed the .50 and at times I do split them in half. Try that and see if you don’t feel as sedated. Hope this helps. Good luck to you. SAMSON

I too like to have full control of my mind, so I don't drink alcohol often. I take .5 mg of Xanax to sleep. I take half of that (.25) as needed during the day. I still feel like I have full control, yet the physical symptoms go away. I actually feel more in control with the tiny dose because my body is calm. I would give it a try!

I used to take Xanax, and it never made me drowsy, just angry. Was on .50 mg three times daily for years. I thought I would die when my doctor took me off cold turkey when everyone caught Benzo-phobia saying it was addictive, so it must be stopped. Really ? Everything is "addictive", including anti-depressants. The other excuse they have is that it's being sold on the street. Really ? What isn't ? Why ya think that is ? Hmm, gee, could it be because people now HAVE to buy it off the street ? Now the marijuana is legal, they need to ease up on the Benzo-bashing. I found a doctor to prescribe me my much-needed anti-anxiety medication. He gave me a choice of either Xanax, Clonazapam or Ativan. Tried all 3 and decided on Klonopin. It's much milder than Xanax, doesn't make me edgy and angry, and helps me with depression as well. I am a believer in depression is caused by anxiety. If I were you, I would try Klonopin, and I want to warn you not to drink while on Xanax. That can cause you to black out, and God be with you if you're behind the wheel if you mix the two.
