Became really ill just over four weeks ago. Presented myself at hospital and gp three times before being rushed in ambulance to hospital. Life threatening pneumonia, really seriously ill. In hospital with all the treatment and care possible. Absolutely terrifying. Got discharged last Wednesday. I live on my own, elderly mother and busy grown up family. I could not even make it upstairs to bathroom and making a meal was out of the question. I couldn't even get washed or dressed. Apart from still feeling very ill, I have felt real fear especially at night. The thing is, I am still not much further on. I have been told that it takes up to six weeks before I will feel well at all. I find it hard to believe that I still feel so unwell and weak. I feel afraid most of the time. Has anyone else been through similar. Looking for some reassurance.
Recovering from serious illness, home... - Anxiety and Depre...
Recovering from serious illness, home from hospital just over a week and not feeling much better. Feel afraid as I am home alone.
Hi deborah sorry to hear you've been unwell I'm glad your getting the treatment you need but why have they let you home knowing you are still unwell and living by your self especially as your by your self! Have you no family or friends you can talk to about how you are feeling! Are you in the UK? I know you don't ask a lady her age so I won't 😊! Have you thought about asking for something to help you sleep or even something to take the edge of your anxiety please take care and I wish you all the best david
Thanks David, hospital notes say ' 'clinically well' meaning that infection levels manageable on antibiotics at home now. I found out that I would have been entitled to care at home but it just wasn't arranged. I rang gp yesterday and someone is coming on Monday to assess me. So here's hoping. It is more the weirdness of still feeling really ill, yet home.
Hi deborah27. That is really hard. I haven't experienced pnemonia so I can't speak to that too much. But I've experinced long illnesses and have also felt scared, alone, and weak. I'm sorry you're going through this. How can we be there for you?
Thinking of you deborah27 ❤️
It’s really hard im in similar situation. You know their are sometimes organizations online that help people at home even fir company especially for the elderly. You’d have to pay them but it might be worth it. & they could help arrange meals and housekeeping. Don’t be ashamed. It’s scary & depressing. You could hire a caregiver to help you out they won’t mind you’re paying them ! Maybe even a student
Hello. I haven't experienced pneumonia but my mom has. She was in the hospital for almost a week and was discharged without feeling well. She was scared to leave the hospital, but the Dr reassured her that her vitals and everything was good and that it would take time for her to get to feeling well. The Dr was right. It took her about 2 weeks before she started to even begin to feel ok, but even then she wasn't all the way back. It takes time.
Hi deborah27, I had pneumonia several years ago (not hospitalized) but just
to let you know once the fever is down and you are finished with the antibiotics,
it does take every bit of 6 weeks to feel like yourself again. But know that you
are going in the right direction and your strength will come back day by day.
It's important you take care of yourself while you are recovering. As someone
suggested, maybe you can find a caregiver to check in on you once a day for a while.
Wishing you a good recovery. We are here if you need us. xx
Hello deb, im Tony im sad to hear of what your going through. I will an have been praying for everyone. But you need some support. What state are you in? Your family should be there no matter what.
