This was probably the title of my last post as well. Currently in the bathroom feeling overwhelmed. At midnight. Why must these thoughts and feelings come rushing in at night? Yes I do experience anxiety during the day but it seems amplified at night. Something I keep coming back to is this feeling I had about a month ago when I first tried an anxiety medication (lexapro). I had a pretty bad reaction and, oddly enough, trying that has only caused more anxiety. A few days into taking it I had a horrible intense anxiety attack in the middle of the night, and now nighttime is basically a trigger for me. It’s so annoying. Anyone have any tips for calming themselves and getting past it?

I recommend going to YouTube now and watching some of the videos by Dr. Claire Weeks on how to deal with panic and anxiety. Her books are good too.

What makes you think it was starting on lexapro that caused your anxiety attack? Did a medical professional confirm that? You see, lexapro doesn't become effective until 6 to 8 weeks after you start taking it. And anxiety is not listed as one of the side effects.
Are you sure you wouldn't have had the anxiety attack anyway regardless of the lexapro you had just started taking?
Are you sure you gave it a chance to work? Were you expecting bad side effects when you started taking it?
Anxiety about taking anti-anxiety meds is another symptom of anxiety.
Maybe if you asked your doctor for a small prescription of xanax or diazepam tranquillisers to take occasionally (not regularly) when you feel an anxiety attack coming on. Their beneficial effect is instant, no waiting for it to bring relief.
Everything seems to be amplafied at night and in the dark. If anyone is worried about something it always seems worse at night. Thinking of the song " Help Me Make it Through the Night " . Then it starts feeding on itself and you start expecting it to happen when ever night time comes. I have no good advice for you so I'll just say get better soon and sending you a hug every night !
