I think that some people will always have a little anxiety and depression in them, but it does not have to be so severe all the time. It has been scientifically proven that you can retrain your brain I absolutely believe people can overcome depression and anxiety.

I agree with you JR! I think we learn to live within our capabilities and limitations, finding a certain balance in life that we strive to obtain and quietly manage. It’s a challenge, but can be done. We live and learn...it’s a journey!

I believe you learn strategies to avoid the struggles of depression and anxiety. Through proper counseling and medication, depression and anxiety can be under control. Many people need medication to keep the chemical's balanced in their brain. I learned that it is like a diabetic - some people need medication to stay stable. However, you also learn to train your brain to think positively and put things into perspective. I have not struggled for over 2 years after battling with depression for over 20 years. I learned I need to give myself a break and enjoy life. I will be praying for you. I hope you are in counseling and have the help you need to feeling better. Reaching out on this forum is a great place to share and be encouraged from others who struggle with depression and anxiety. Please keep sharing. Hugs!

Yes, I agree about the medication thing. Some people need psych meds for the rest of their lives, some, only for a certain amount of time. No one is better or worse, and I agree it is just like taking meds for diabetes, high blood pressure, etc,

From my experience it gets better and there are times it comes back. It depends on life situation and amount of stress you have in your life. At the same time you learn how to deal with that and with experience you are capable of helping yourself out, you have tools and you are not so vulnerable any more. For me the first big episode was the worst one, I did not know what to do and ended up in a hospital. Since then I have never had it so bad.

of course we can overcome it we can never stop believing trying or giving up the fight.one thing I say though is don't overthink of your problems and don't criticise yourself for any little set backs.

I haven’t read all the replies but I definitely agree with at least one.

I think more than anything it depends on what causes your depression and anxiety. I first got so bad I wanted to kill my self for the first time around the age of 12. Depression runs in my dad’s side of the family and as an adult I realize that a lot of my mom’s quirks and “paranoia’s” she tried to play off as a joke were probably GAD, like what I have.

I can’t comment on people who have suffered trauma but I hope anyone who hasn’t struggled their entire lives can be more or less completely healed.

All of that being said, I know that it is possible for someone with depression and anxiety to be happy. I was truly happy once, around 12 years ago. I was a bit lost in life but I was happy, optimistic, and looking forward to a bright future filled with love and hope. My symptoms had largely vanished and things were good.... too bad that all went to hell....

The point is that I believe it will always be a part of most of us but with the right life changes and support structures in our life we can be happy and our problems won’t seem as bad.
