I;m 49 and have been batteling Panic Disorder for about 25yrs. I can only drive certain places, and for the past 8yrs, my wife has always driven when we go on highways while I put my headphones on and try to relax. Sometimes I'm fine and sometimes I'm very anxious. I have to drive from NY to NC next week and I'm scared to death. My wife will be driving directly in front of me but I'm still terrified. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

do you have music you like a lot and really get into it, can you play your own tunes in your car while you drive. How about listening to some self help stuff that is geared towards calming you on your journey. Like something you can get off the internet. Some focusing techniques to help you get out of the fear and keep your attention on while driving. Do you have a therapist that can give you a list of possibilities to help you.
Keep telling yourself ...I can do this! I do completely understand though...I'm the same way, won't even attempt to drive in winter, we have very harsh winters! I know mine stems from a car accident I had, do you know where yours comes from? I sure do wish you the best!!! Peace be with you!
Wow. I think you should be proud of yourself. That is quite a journey. When you make it there, you should totally give yourself a high five and a pat on the back. Also, think of something to reward yourself when you get there. You will have earned it!
Also, I agree with faux. Tunes, loud tunes...something you really like. Good luck, and please post back and let us know how it goes. 😁 We are all rooting for you.
well, I drove down to NC with very little anxiety. I took my meds, but didn't have to take extra or anything. I played some music, and spoke to my wife(bluetooth) who was driving in front of me. It was a 12 hour drive but I made it!! A few days before I had to turn around and go home on my way to home depot..5 min away. Panic Disorder is a strange thing..I'm glad I made it here. Thanks for all the support
