How do you guys deal with anxiety at work? What about when challenges come up at work? My boss has requested that I go on a business trip in a couple weeks, but the meeting he wants me to attend is absolutely not important and can be done over the phone. I'm resisting because I have a severe fear of flying and anxiety over travel. How do I stand up for myself, stand my ground, and respect my mental health, without seeming like I'm non-compliant or resistant?

Hi, I would just explain the situation to your boss, be completely honest about you struggling with anxiety and stress that you would be more than happy to do the meeting another way!
Currently trying this route. It's not even an important meeting so I'm not sure why they are pushing for me to go. I've been very direct and open about my mental health issues and my boss tries to be understanding...but people who don't struggle themselves have a hard time understanding anxiety. I know it's unrealistic to expect people to give me the time and space I need to deal with this at work, but I wish I worked somewhere that was more understanding.
I would work on your fear of flying. If you don't, it will hold you back professionally. Get a prescription for tranquilizers (ativan is a good one), and take as needed before the plane takes off. This worked for my son (who had a terrible fear of flying). After a few months the fear subsided and he no longer needs the tranquilizers.
