My Doctor gave me a new sleeping pill and oh my God! I only slept a half an hour last night! It turns out it’s an antihistamine, which always keep me awake…

Oh no. Sorry to hear that.

Lack of sleep is the pits too...

Hope you can get that sorted out via your doc quickly.

I’m so sorry you are a fellow insomniac. It’s truly terrible! I go 1-4 days a week w/o a minute of sleep. Napping isn’t an option for me, I just don’t fall asleep and I’m not generally tired tho after 2 years ( well years of on and off). What kind of MD did you see? What have you tried? I’ve tried them ALL so if you have questions about a medication or advice given to you, I’d gladly try to help, answer any questions if that might be of some help! Don’t give up tho and be sure to see the right doc. I wish you luck on finding a speedy solution! M

I’ve been to a pain doctor, because part of it is due to an injury to my spine. He gave me Tizanadine, which relaxes the muscles and that helps a little bit. And then my GP gave me over the years Ambien and Lunesta. And now this has all lead to burn out (I’m a teacher.) So then I started seeing a psychiatrist (I also have MDD (depression)and he’s been giving me trazodone which has been working a bit for the last three years. But now I’m out of work on medical leave, as things just grew progressively worse. I’ve been getting about three hours of sleep a night. So I asked him for a different pill and he gave me this anti-histamine. :(

So we seem to have some things in common. I also see a pain doc- chronic pain (CMP), have MDD, some anxiety issues, tho might be improving some. I’m pretty stable with pain meds, tho muscle relaxers I’m gonna give up on. I’ve tried all but ECT for MDD, even tried Ketamine which was the cruelest thing I’ve experienced. Tried most every med and I’m currently on Fetzima which seems to help. I’m sadly out of med options for sleep. But you have options! What antihistamine are you taking? Not sure going from Ambien/Lunesta to that is a great idea. If all you get from your pain doc is Tizantidine, I’d ask him for sleep help starting with, well what he recommends, but a low dose benzo would seem practical now. More than an antihistamine- in my opinion/experience you’re beyond that! Be assertive, insomnia only makes the MDD worse as you know and docs know. I wish you much luck and hope you get on something helpful soon! M

I am about halfway through a treatment for TMS. Have you heard of that? I’m putting a lot of hope on this treatment. Otherwise I don’t know how I’m going to do! Don’t know how I will be able to go back to work. I’m doing all the things they tell you to do like exercise, watch your diet, be peaceful, breathing exercises… I think that I may try to get disability to tide me over until I get better.

Try Meletonin. I think that's how you spell it. I really has helped me. I have to take 2 or 3 pills, not just the recommended dose which was oked by my doctor.

BTW, it's a vitamin and over the counter.
