Hi guys!
I’m new here and I also struggle with Major depression, anxiety & PMDD. I was put on meds today for the very first time and I have no clue about Lexapro & Prozac. Has anyone taken it before? How did it make you feel? I’m kinda desperate 😕

Hi Kia, unfortunately I haven't used them...hopefully someone here can you tell how it worked for them. Welcome to the group!
So I kinda freaked for a minute when you said Lexapro and Prozac together. Too much of an SSRI can cause serotonin syndrome, which from personal experience with two seizures caused by taking two meds that both in theory were serotonin reuptakes. That said I searched it and it seems like most docs only have the patient take a small dose of Prozac the days leading up to their periods, which made more sense to me. Make sure you pay very close attention to your body's reaction to the meds, good and bad. I can't tell you their effectiveness from a personal level, but my sister has been on Lexapro and Lithium for years for her bipolar and seems to do quite well with the Lexapro part.
Ok great. Thanks so much for the advice I really appreciate it.
I gotta ask does the doc have you taking them together everyday or just when your period is about to start? It just concerns me greatly, if you have never taken an ssri and the doc puts you on two at the same time.
Yes. Everyday together
I would question that, big time. What was the dosage on each?
Ok. I’ll look more into it. I’ve never been on meds before so it has me kind of anxious bcuz I keep googling reviews and side effects bcuz Idk what to expect. Kinda scary for me. Thank you though. I appreciate you
Yes, research it, but don't let it scare you into not taking them. Like many doctors have told me, the benefits outweigh the side effects. So long as the side effects are not affecting your daily life. You will do great, you have already done some homework, just stay very involved in the decision making with your doctor.
Lexapro is good! My dr started me on too high a dose and I had some side effects, like I felt like I was drunk all the time. I stopped it because my anxiety makes me worried to use meds. My husband takes it though with Wellbutrin and it works great for him for depression and social anxiety!
