Back story, I never had any issues with my periods was on the pill and always had a bleed during the 7 day break. Then around 5 years ago my periods became heavy and unpredictable. Changed pills but that didn’t work so was referred to a gynaecologist and scans revealed I had a few fibroids. I had a mirena coil fitted and my bleeding settled although still was being irregular. Was told to have monthly zoladex injections that initially made my bleeding worse but did eventually settle.
over the past couple years although my periods are very irregular they can still be heavy so I have been told the only other option would be a hysterectomy.
I’m now 52 and do wonder if the issues I’ve had have been because of the fibroids or could they possibly be peri menopausal symptoms. I’d rather not have a hysterectomy if I don’t need to.
any advice would be welcome.

🤔 Your age suggests it could be linked to perimenopause..I reached menopause myself in 2005, I’d had a year without periods…I was 55.
It’s difficult to predict when perimenopause will actually end..maybe your doctors are concerned about you continuing with very heavy periods. You need to discuss this further.
It’s so hard to know isn’t it, I now haven’t had a period for 8 months but I hate the unpredictability of it. Every time I’m out the house for long periods of time I have to take supplies with me as I could start my period anytime. I can go months without a period then have 3 or 4 in a couple of months.
Just don’t know whether to wait it out or go ahead with a hysterectomy 🤔 😕 but worried about the after effects as I will go into a medical menopause
3 or 4 in a couple of months must wear you down..and the unpredictability is stressful to say the least. If only it were possible to know when perimenopause ends..how much longer you had to put up with this..that might make a difference when it comes to decision.
When it’s good it’s great but it’s just the uncertainty that gets to me. Having a coil fitted also doesn’t help with knowing if it’s menopause either as it could be that causing the lack of periods 🫤
I havnt been given any other surgical options but have had zoladex treatments that have put me into a medical menopause. I was concerned about side effects but didn’t have any.
I no longer want any more children so that’s not an issue.
My main concern is definitely dealing with the after effects and recovery and how I will feel. It’s weighing it up against my unpredictable periods and now much longer they will go on for.
I’m currently in a good place with having no period for 8 months.
My periods have been settled for a couple years now. The first coil I had fitted was in July 18 all was ok until May 20 when I started bleeding heavy again, a scan showed the coil had moved, so had another one fitted in sept 20 and been. ok - ish since then.
I only recently read that some women have the coil fitted to use as HRT so maybe that’s what’s helping me. My only other menopause symptoms are painful joints and dry eyes that drive me mad some days.
