The past 6 months have been life changing for me I managed to stop overthinking, I’m not depressed or have anxiety anymore. This is something I never thought I would be saying after being in a very dark place.

I am happy with where I am and my progress but the one thing that still remains is insomnia I have tried every technique, routine, cutting things from my diet, music, medication, medication and still I struggle to sleep I’m on my 4th night of very little sleep.

Is it right that as you get older you sleep less? Should I just put it down to age (40) and accept that I need less sleep 🤷‍♀️

You are far too young to suffer lack of sleep. You should ask yourself doctor for a short course of sleeping pills to get your body adjusted to a sleeping rhythm. Take care x

The Drs is aware of it they will only prescribe me an antihistamine that is suppose to help sleep but it does nothing. They did prescribe me a 3 day course of sleeping tablets but they made it clear it is a one off because they are addictive. This has been going on for 3 years 😬. Thank you for replying.

I never had issues when I was in my 40s with sleep. Now at age 65 I've been having difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, very fragmented sleep. I wound up getting a Sleep Clinic referral and I'm now having a sleep study done the end of the month to rule out apnea. There are many causes of sleep apnea, not just being overweight. In the meantime the doctor from the Sleep Clinic prescribed me a low dose of trazodone 50 mg to help with sedation for me to fall asleep easier. I haven't noticed that much of a difference taking it so I'm going to bump it up to 75 mg. Trazodone is an an antidepressant that causes sedation and is used for sleep off label. I also practice good sleep hygiene, doing all the things you're supposed to. Maybe you should consider getting a sleep study done .

How would I go about getting a sleep study done? Sometimes I’m in and out of sleep that fast I’m still in a dream state it’s a very odd sensation, last night I had sleep paralysis it has been a long time since I had that again, it really is exhausting

I got a referral from my primary care doctor to be seen at the sleep clinic. I believe most insurance does require a referral.
