This might be a silly question but does anyone know if your immune system can be affected following a total hysterectomy (uterus and ovary removal)? I had a hysterectomy in August last year and since then I’ve had tonsilitis and a cold that just won’t go. I feel so run down and miserable. I hadn’t had tonsilitis or a cold for several years. Following my hysterectomy I was out straight into medical menopause and given HRT. I would be so grateful for any advice. I’m really not enjoying life at the moment because of constantly being ill.
Thanks

Hi PinkLaura, I had an early menopause at 42, not long after I had a full hysterectomy but have to say it didnt affect my immune system but it takes between 10 months or a year to completely get back to normal. Everyone is different but it sounds like your a bit run down, think you should have a chat with your doctor for maybe a pick-me up medication. Just take it easy, and take care, bye for now x
Thanks for your reply Apollomycat. I'll definitely get in touch with my GP. I'm definitely feeling rundown and not myself. It's really been getting me down x
Likewise I had a total hysterectomy for endometriosis last August and can empathise with how you’re feeling. Fortunately for me I have a few other health problems so had bloods post surgery that showed I needed some treatment to stabilise my bloods.
I would recommend for you to book a GP appointment and explain this to them as you may need a short course of treatment to get your bloods in range. Good luck x
hi, if you are taking estrogen hrt - this can cause blocked and runny nose, colds and all; sorts. ive been through total hysterectomy and put on it and then after a bit got awful anxiety and depression and physical symptoms. if you want me to explain more just ask.
