Hormone imbalance

I’m new here, age 47. After a blood test I have a confirmed hormone imbalance. My progesterone to Estrogen levels are at a ratio of 38, it’s says it should be between 100-500. So I am Estrogen dominant. I have middle area weight gain, hot flashes, brain fog, insomnia, night sweats, moodiness and more..... I have spoken to my gp who put me on Estrogen patches, Estradiol only, surely Estrogen only is wrong as this will raise my already high Estrogen levels. Someone has said to use natural progesterone but don’t know where to start? Any advice be great

I would go to a lady endocrinologist if you could. They specialize in this.

There are different brands of progesterone sold on Amazon but I would check in w the endo first.

Good luck

Do you still have your uterus? In that case, you need progesterone along with estrogen to prevent the endometrial lining from building up. Only women who´ve had a hysterectomy can take estrogen without progesterone.

I have had the same symptoms as you in recent months, and sure enough there are a lot of articles about estrogen dominance and how to treat it...the answer is always to go off estrogen (the idea being that we get enough of it anyway from plastic bottles, cosmetics, environmental toxins etc) and use progesterone only (in the US, there seems to be quite a lot of OTC products whereas most drugs are POMs in Europe as far as I know, with the exception of Biovea...but P cream is said to result in less stable levels). If you do take progesterone, it would be advisable to take a bio-identical version and not a progestin. Bio-identical P is available as Utrogestan in Europe.

After doing a lot of reading on the subject, and after trying to go off estrogen unsuccessfully, this is what I´ve learned: estrogen dominance is real, but it´s a problem mainly in your mid-30s to mid-40s when you are not always ovulating, meaning estrogen levels build up while you don´t make enough progesterone to oppose it. However, in your late 40s to early 50s, you are almost certainly estrogen deficient (as well as progesterone deficient).

My latest E/P ratio came back 27 and should be >100...but my estradiol levels came back at 37 pg/mL on HRT and should be >100. So what I have tried to do is to raise both my E and P levels (my P came back at 1.0 pg/mL, ref menopause <0.89, while taking 200 mg of Utrogestan during the second half of cycle). I have now raised estradiol (I use Lenzetto) from two to three sprays daily, and have switched to taking Utrogestan 100 mg daily instead of cyclically. I will now give it some time and see how my body reacts.
