Any hot flash relief from anything? I'm dying here and I don't know what to try next...

I have had hot flashes and I mean severe hot flashes and feeling hot all the time 24/7 especially in my face for the last 6 months but even before that I was having trouble for several years. I have tried taking black cohosh 80 mg a day and that didn't do anything except for maybe take 5% off. I went to the gyno recently and she said that I have zero estrogen due to having anorexia for 27 years and so I have what's called hypothalamic amenorrhea because my pituitary gland won't turn on the estrogen due to the fact that I am not menstruating or at a good enough weight. She thought that by putting me on HRT 0.075 estrogen patch that that would hopefully take away my hot flashes. I've been on the estrogen patch now for 3 weeks and have gotten zero relief from my hot flashes. I have a follow-up in a couple weeks but she told me to renew it for another month so I know she's not going to move me up any. I'm fearing that it's not going to work since it hasn't kicked in in this time and most everybody else gets symptomatic relief within a couple weeks. So if she ends up not taking me any further with this I don't know what to try next....do you think I should try a higher dosage of black cohosh? Or has anybody had any luck with Estroven? which is what she had recommended before she tried the HRT but decided to try the HRT first... If you can tell me if you get hot flash relief and what you get it from... please let me know as I am dying here and I can't stand feeling hot all the time.

Sorry to hear you're going through this, it's horrible. I take sage tablets to deal with mine. Although my main problem were night sweats and not so much hot flushes during the day. I can't take hrt as I take blood thinners. The GP wanted to give me anti depressants because she said one of their side effects was to stop sweating. I declined and did my own research. Sage has worked for me. Hope you find some relief.

Oh that's interesting as I have never taken sage before. Could you tell me what brand you take and what dose and how often?

This is the one I use - Sage Tablets 2500mg - 180 Vegan Tablets 6 Month Supply - Menopause Symptoms, Hot Flushes, Night Sweats - High Strength Sage Leaf - Standardised 10mg Rosmarinic Acid amzn.eu/d/3UJ23ff

I just take one a day.

For some reason it won't let me pull it up because I live in the United States and I guess this is something from the United Kingdom?

in reply toAlisonClark

Oh now I found it. But the problem is it says it's currently unavailable and they don't know when they'll have it back in stock. I wonder if it would work if I took another brand like it? How long did it take for it to give you relief from severe hot flashes?

Yes I'm in the UK. I would search through and find something similar. There's also company called A. Vowel, they may ship to the US.

in reply toAlisonClark

Well the thing is I looked up what you're talking about and on Amazon and it says currently unavailable so I then tried something else that they said other customers purchased that was like it but it was $3,000 mg and it is currently unavailable too so I'm not finding anywhere where I can buy these because it seems like every place is out..

in reply toAlisonClark

Also do you remember how long it took for this to work to take away all your hot flashes?

You could try searching on Google. Also you could contact Nu U Nutrition (nuunutrition.com) and see if they ship to the US.It took about a month to feel the benefits for me but everyone is different.

in reply toAlisonClark

Okay thank you I will look into it. I am also wondering if maybe I should give black cohosh another try but at a higher dosage as before I was taking 80 mg a day and it wasn't doing anything but you got to figure that I've got really really severe hot flashes so maybe I just need a higher dose as I see that a lot of brands carry dosages of like 540 mg a day?

I can't answer that, you will need to research it online. I can't take that because of other medication

in reply toAlisonClark

Okay thank you. I will look into the sage tablets if the HRT doesn't end up working out but for now my gyno wants me to continue to give this a try but after 3 weeks of no help I'm very worried it's not going to work

Hi you need to give the Hrt 3 months to get in your system if no better it should be increased then wait 3 months and so on untill you feel an improvement. Some Gps are clueless look at the Balance App by Doctor Louise Newson she is a GP and Menopause Specialist. There is loads of information and will give you the knowledge to be able to speak to your own GP and hopefully get results. Wishing you all the best and hoping you feel better soon.x

🙂If you’re on Facebook..search Hypothalamic Amenorrhea… there are links to Support Groups. And…there are also links to Menopause Support Groups. xx

in reply towobblybee

Well the thing is I'm not on Facebook anymore as I find more grief with it than relief. Whenever I've joined the menopause support groups in the past people end up saying to me you're too young to have menopause as yours is more linked to anorexia so I've gotten some not so nice comments before. And then with the hypothalamic amenorrhea I've never found a group for that I've only found eating disorder groups and they're not helpful as they're either very very triggering or they are completely angry at you if you're not in a complete state of oh I want to be recovered right now! So a lot of them won't give you very nice answers as well. I might go back to trying that if I can't get any other information but it's hard when I feel like I'm the only one who's ever been through these things as when I talk to other people with anorexia or even people with amenorrhea they don't have the hot flashes or if I talk to people who have the hot flashes they are actually in menopause and don't have anorexia so it's just really hard....

I was advised to take Sage for mine after talking to the woman in the health food shop.

I did and it absolutely worked. Try it.

in reply toEllie-Louise

Really?... That's interesting I've never done that. What brand of sage do you take and how much and how often? Oh and how long did it take to relieve your hot flashes?

I don’t now, sorry. I’m way past that so I can’t remember. But I do remember them working well, and at least I didn’t have to rip my clothes off any more.

in reply toEllie-Louise

Okay thank you

in reply toEllie-Louise

Will do you at least remember how long it took for the hot flashes to go away when she started taking the sage?

Who?

If you mean me then I can’t as it’s 20+ years ago. Try your local health food shop.

in reply toEllie-Louise

Okay thank you anyways.

I can sleep at night without night sweats if I have a marijuana edible. Doesn’t take much, but takes the hot flashes away for me. Also, I’ve been seeing a new drug being advertised here in the U.S. for severe hot flashes.
