Welcome to the start os another weekend. Here’s hoping the weather improves. It is also Halloween but with the virus on the up again I don’t really think there will be much of that this year. November is very nearly upon us.
The Daily Diary s the place were we let other know what our food plan is for the day. So that we can get to know what others are eating. We can learn things from them and nick ideas from each other which I often do. Anything that is said is not said in any way to upset you it is given in good faith from what others have found along there journey into healthy eating. If you could also tell us what plan you are following ad be LCHF or calorie counting. Or any plan you are doing.
It is a voluntary forum run by volunteers and we need you to answer some of the other members plan. We al need encouragement along the way.
If this is your first time on the Daily Diary we welcome you. Read what others are doing and just follow suit. You will soon get the hang of things.
My meals for Friday are.
First thing coffee
Breakfast Porridge with mixed berries in it.
Dinner Sea bass on a bed of cabbage cooked in butter.
Tea Some Broccoli soup which is left over from Thursday.
I will be walking Roxie a couple of times hopefully they will be dry walks unlike Thursday.
Now I hand it over to you all. Looking forward to reading your menus.
Good evening Caroline and Roxie!🐕! Sea bass on buttery cabbage sounds scrumptious! Fish and butter go so well together.
I hope you can manage to walk Roxie before it's dark. I got quite a surprise this evening it seems to get dark before I know it. Wiggles isn't getting enough walks as I've strained my back and it's still painful. Luckily she's only little and doesn't really mind.
I'm following LCHEALTHYF IF 8:16 it means I skip the evening meal unless I'm hungry in which case I'll cook something as opposed to snacking.
No alcohol. No snacking.
B: Pre-Packed toast with butter and a scrape of jam. Coffee with FF milk.
L: Roast veggie soup with a slop of cream and grated Parmigiano on top. +a small piece of pork belly.
Oh no that’s not good Tabby you be careful. Enjoy your toast and butter. Fab lunch Tabby. I take Roxie out in the evening just before I start getting ready for bed around 9 pm. It’s dark by 5 pm here now. Long dark and cold nights till around February. We need soup here for the cold. That’s why I made some from my veggie box. Casseroles on the menu over the weekend.
You stay save and look after yourself. Be careful with that back. Roxie sends her barks and meow to you 🐈🐾🦮😊🌈
I hope your back is better asap - it is one of those pains that really wears you down. Have you tried a warm wheat pad with lavender? I swear by mine when my shoulder is playing up. I go to bed with it tucked in just the right spot - or a hot water bottle, maybe that would help you?
I sympathize with you Tabby I have had problems with my back since I was 19!!! And believe me that's a looooong time ago. I've slipped a disc and had extremely painful periods when I couldn't walk. Then once when I was in bed in agony unable to move my lovely friend Anita popped round and changed my life.
She practices reflexology and she massaged the pad of my thumb several times and I could feel the pain lessening. Within an hour I was up and moving almost pain free and within 2 hours I had no pain at all.
I highly recommend this method of pain relief.
You can print off a free hand reflexology chart and do it on yourself. This is something I do on myself as soon as I start to twinge. It works like magic. Give it a go. All you have to lose is the pain.
Actually I might have a look see if there is a place to massage to lower appetite.
Sorry to hear about your back, back pain really sucks. Do some gentle stretching to both sides, front and back. They are basic but generally help the most xx
Thanks springer! I've given it a couple of days of as near to complete rest is pos. Today I'm going to do some very gentle stretching on the bed, with the Pilates ball! That should move something.
Hello all, Thank you for hosting, Caroline62. Great poster. May your Friday be a beautiful start to a beautiful weekend. I am mostly following LCHF/OMAD
B Coffee, first one with three teaspoons of double cream
Thank you Hopalong1 Tomato soup 1 of my favourites. Mmmm. A good days food there. You are doing the same as me. Enjoy and take care.
My brother lives in Morley part of Leeds and they may be going in to high tier. Are you in that part or nearer to East Yorkshire. What ever take care. 😊
I live in North Yorks, currently Tier 2. I have Sea bass envy. There was a mix up with my veg box and it will be greens every day, forever! God is helping with my low carb 😂😂
Don't try the Tesco fresh Leek and Potato. It is so disgusting. After throwing it away we looked up the reviews......terrible. I suppose that might help weight loss. You can't eat it😂😂
Are you going to share your meals plans for the day?
All of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts
healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially the daily diary.
We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.
Peeps DiamonteSandal and Denton1 soup is just so easy to make you really don't need T's stuff. It can be done with a soup maker or without. I just use a stick blender.
Hubby is on a low carb diet to see if it helps with his type 2 diabetes. So he gets to test the low carb options of our old favourites. He had low carb pasta this evening; he ate it but it was so fibrous. I cooked it longer than the packet said, but it did not seen to make any difference. Anyone got any suggestions?
Plan for tomorrow:
B: overnight oats (it's a small portion with just enough oats to keep it interesting - one eye on those carbs)
L: ham and cheese omelette (I may add in some red onion)
Hubby really likes an omelette. He thinks they are a lot of effort; I should let him know they are easy, but then I do enjoy how his eyes light up when I make one 😇
Dealing with a pasta eating, low cab Hubby can't be easy. If he enjoys the "pasta sauces" may be he would enjoy them on some shredded cabbage cooked in butter "al dente" not soggy!
Hi just1me, I haven't tried lowcarb pasta, we substitute it with carrot or courgette spaghetti in my house, which makes it carb free and so much tastier. You can buy it done in supermarkets, but I purchased a spiraliser and make my own.
Snap SP!! I use shredded cabbage, cooked in butter, too! All the Italian pasta sauces work with "zoodles" carrots and cabbage. The only difference I find is that I eat the last mouth full with a spoon as it doesn't stick to the cabbage like it does to pasta.
I often have courgette instead of pasta, I use a peeler to make it into strips then warm through in a small quantity of water with a vegetable stock cube added (although no reason why you couldn't blast in a microwave), did that with a carbonara the other week and it was rather tasty!
Ah just1me I've been wondering how much oats I should put in my overnight oats as I'm concerned about carbs out of curiousity how much do you put in ? Lovely menu happy Friday
I ended up in Pizza Hut today. They do vegan pizza (no other options) so I looked up the nutritional value and ordered the dish I wanted, plus a takeaway box. I ate half with a small bowl of lettuce, so around 600 kcal for lunch. I'm hoping this was a good compromise and have cut the remaining bit in two, to have tomorrow and Saturday with salad (cost a fortune so don't want to waste it!) Hopefully I'll still lose 2 lbs by Wednesday, just need to keep things balanced.
Tha pizza place near me closed down. So not been in 1 for awhile. Well done on having half. Yes it’s expensive now so I don’t blame you for bringing it home for a nother day. At least you enjoyed that’s the main.
Yes it has a slightly nutty squash taste, it's great in soups and curries, I've even put it in smoothies and porridge cakes. There's loads of interesting recipes online although I haven't decided on dinner
Sounds like a good idea to split it into quarters so you have the calories over a couple of days 👍They also do a gluten free vegan pizza which makes me happy. I can only eat a bit now though and haven't had one since pre lockdown
Free dream I admire your discipline with the pizza you are so good !! I’m on low carb I’m wondering if pumpkin is ok I think I’d like to try a spicy homemade pumpkin soup.
Must be 18 months since I've had a pizza, after my "fish and chips" experience last week I suspect it would leave me with carb overload! Have a great day.
Good evening, I'm still trying to get my ahead around LCHF and have made some rocky mistakes ( not checking carbs when I'm unsure and eating anyway😕) I'm not going completely keto ( no more than 100g of carbs for me)
Currently self isolating and bored out of my head ( im not even allowed to walk the dog!!) My step count hasn't reached 200 yet, let alone the 10,000 that I aim to do.
Not able to go out and run which is doing my mood no good at all. Advice needed 🙏
Good luck for your Friday. Do you have a garden/outside space you can use for exersize (and fresh AIR)? Don't know if you're a fan of fitness videos but maybe one in the morning could help you feel active. I hope you find something interesting to do tomorrow - and you should plan something good for your first day of freedom!
Sorry you are having to self isolate - I hope you are well though?
Whack some music on and boogie like no one is watching My Mum is stuck in her flat at the moment thanks to the weather so she told me today she's been doing the Twist!
Your food choices sound lovely. I've just added salad to my Tesco delivery for Saturday to have with a chicken pizza too! They do a sweet chilli one which I love.
My daughter's last day of self-isolating is today, so at least we can get out the house tomorrow. It's like we've all been cooped up...though I have been running.
Get a workout video going from YouTube. Perhaps a 30mins one. Once you get going, they are really good. ☺
Then perhaps you can have a large glass of wine 🍷. 😉
Lovely meals Siggie. I'm afraid to get pizza... Dont think my self control is enough not to eat the whole thing. Imagining eating your pizza is the next best thing though 😂😂 xx
The pizza is fab, the base is a flattened out chicken breast topped with onion, pepper, tomato and mozzerella and baked in the oven for 30 minutes. Not a traditional one but a very low carb one. And it's delicious!
The recipe is on Lytham 'chicken off ' if you search posts 😊
Great food siggie. Perhaps try putting on some loud cheesy party music and having a dance around the house. Hopefully that could add steps and make you giggle.
Sorry about the isolation siggie Cant see why you can’t run if you’re not in contact with anyone else ? Have you thought of exercise videos on YouTube I was thinking of that to try and tone my pot belly. I’m doing Sober October and really looking forward to a glass of wine at some point. I’m the same as you I struggle to work out how many grams of carbs I’m having. I had two apples yesterday that needed eating that needed eating I hate to waste food as I think it’s wrong and know they are high in carbs
Have a great weekend and hope you’re allowed out soon
Must be absolutely cabbaging you by now, I’ve struggled to get out myself this week due to work and it’s messing with my head so I don’t know how you must be getting on not going out at all. Enjoy your drop of red, hope it’s a decent one and have a sip for me!
I have a Roxy too - mine is a horse though And a dog called Lexi. She arrived with her name so I wondered if they would get confused but no, they know exactly who they are.
Today I ate well - my poached eggs with beans on toast was totally scrumptious and lived up to my hankering expectations from yesterday! Even so, my calories for today are under my range, coming in at 1047calories (NHS 12 week programme). Clearly my issues have been with my snacking rather than my meals. Still, I might have that chocolate at the weekend and not feel bad.
I really like this idea of planning my meals for tomorrow and writing them here - I feel like once I've committed, I have to stick to it and that really saves me grabbing wrong choices.
So tomorrow is Week 1, Day 5 and the plan is:
Breakfast: 1 rasher bacon, 1 egg, 1 toast and 1/4 tin beans (using up from today's meal!)
Lunch: Tesco low fat tomato soup with a sandwich thin. It definitely is the weather for soup!
Dinner: Battered fish with garden peas and boiled potato chunks crisped up in the air fryer.
Desserts tend to be a small fromage frais or some sugar free jelly with a spoonful of Alpro yoghurt.
Exercise will be mucking out and a brisk dog walk. After yesterday's run I think I will save my next one until the weekend.
Hello DiamonteSandal. How nice having a horse. I bet that is hard work. Mucking out the stables. Pleased you had a good day. We all need a treat and I think weekends are the best time for them. I tend to have a scone. This week I have a peace of carrot cake. Good food for today.tomato is my favourite although I will eat any type of soup. Fab dinner also. Have a good day. Keep safe. 😊😊
How are you feeling? I hope you don't get hungry, you shouldn't as long as you keep your daily calories at the top end of your range, to begin with at least.
Good morning DiamonteSandsl what a well planned menu with lots of variety you sound much better organised than me. Good luck with the mucking out ! Have a great day
Well done and keep going! I keep seeing people referring to Alpro yogurt, must confess I have never tried it but I may give it a go just for a change...
Sounds like a delicious day! I generally manage to swerve the cake, did have a cookie the other day at work though (well, it was only a small one, and the last one in the packet...)
It's a soup recipe I got from StarLight75 ,its good for cold and flu season as it boosts your immune system, its full of veg and beans and herbs and is so tasty, love fish & chips x
Ummm fish and chips. I find I like home made better now, as the boys got some from the chipshop the other day and I tried a bit found it too greasy and not tasty at all.
Likewise, had fish and chips last week while away and felt bloated and uncomfortable for the following 2 days. I suspect I’m no longer used to the carbs.
Yes, I should be doing leg training...just haven't been motivated to do them. I'm aiming to comfortably run for 2hrs. Did 15km (1hr 40mins) last Sunday which felt pretty good, so I'm hoping I can manage the extra 20mins.
You've certainly motivated me with my running, for my 50th birthday next Feb I have challenged myself to enter 5 10k races and quite possibly a half marathon😳😳 can't believe I've just typed that out 😂😂
But after this 2 weeks of self isolation I'll be back to W1 R1 of C25K 😂😂😂
Hopefully you've got some muscle memory, but it's so hard after a gap. That's the scary part isn't it...that you feel all your hard work's been negated. You've been running long distances, so let's hope not.
5 10ks is quite a challenge!! Is that to run by the time you're 50? From my run emails I can see lots of events are back on so hopefully your area has a few planned. You can definitely do a 10k.
Half-marathon...what can I say?! Go for it!! 😬 Royal Parks is usually October and for this year its been postponed to April next year. Not sure if that means they'll have another in October 2021...but that seems like a good target! 😉
Have a good day, and enjoy your run. Need to get out there myself, I haven’t been out since Sunday’s 10k due to work, may do a quick 5k this afternoon if the weather picks up.
It is for now 😉 it is basically a pudding I am making that has fruit and cinnamon. I make it so it is solid ish, like a pudding and am at present trying to make a low sugar dairy free custard I can enjoy a little of
Lovely menu and very well said not to take anything or anyone granted. Happy Friday Dear Caroline and all.
It is Halloween in school so kido have school till 1030 and that too in Halloween costume. He is going to be Skelton.
It is going to b pizza day for dinner. I'll skip dinner. Lunch will be scrambled paneer, berries, guacamole. Tea and water as usual. On Fridays Mr.FT has more time for walk. So we will be out for 2hrs walk. Happy weekend everyone.
I did manage to get a short walk in yesterday but it was a bit wet and miserable. I did a few extra stairs and a yoga session as my exercise and plan on doing that again today.
B. Branflakes & skimmed milk ( milk is the only full fat product I don't like)
L. Avocado salad
D. Breaded chicken, tomato sauce, peppers, courgette
Oh the weather. I've had three soakings this week and constantly drying clothes ! Fingers crossed think we have a bit of a dry today. You be careful on those stairs. Love your dinner. We've started having SL sticky chicken dead easy to make and a bit like something from a Chinese takeaway.
Ah I see hence the steps there you go you won’t have to do anything else ! well the sun came out today stayed dry great bike ride and Arnside looked really pretty in the sun have a good weekend
There was a change of plan - I found some fresh berries left so I had Greek yoghurt, berries and a sprinkle of low sugar granola.
I'm not keen on the fatty feel left on my lips from full fat milk so have skimmed for my coffee in the morning. I've tried cream in coffee and found that worse.
Fair enough! I personally don't think skimmed milk tastes of anything, and prefer full fat purely on a taste basis, cream is even better but oh! the calories 🤔
Hi Caroline and thanks for hosting. Love the words in the picture. I think we sometimes forget to count our blessings and focus on what isn't working.
Plan is to avoid processed carbs and ... sort of 18-6 IF
B... 2 tea with milk (never sure if this counts as food due to the milk)
L... soup and salad sticks to crunch on
D... salmon and salad (boys are having fish and chips)
Gardening today as we visites the local nursery yesterday and I now have 5 new shrubs and some winter pansies to plant. So taking the pain killers and hoping the knee doesn't cause to much issue with the gardening. Then this evening I am attending a 'virtual' whisky tasting and distillery tour so have 125ml of whisky in 6little bottle to taste during it. This was a birthday present from my daughter and will be fun.
I'm only having food between 12pm and 7pm, but the tea now (8am) and whisky later slightly varies the IF.
Morning Caroline and Roxy 🐕, thanks for hosting, your meals sound delicious, especially the sea bass 🐟 which I love.
I have got completely drowned 🌧the last two days walking my dogs, 🐕🐶🐕🦺but that is one of the joys of having dogs I guess, especially mad, water dogs , like mine 🙂.
I have a busy day with work until mid afternoon and then trying to get the house 🏡 sorted for the weekend, before babysitting my granddaughter👶 early evening .🌛
I am following LCHF, eating when I am hungry, which could be OMAD or IF, no alcohol🍸 and trying to drink more water.
First thing tea ☕with a dash of milk
Lunch- (if hungry) smoked mackerel 🐟with whatever salad 🥗bits are in the fridge.
Dinner-something quick and easy will see what meals I have in the freezer.
Drinks- coffee and water
Exercise- Yoga 🧘♀️ first thing and a walk 🚶♀️ with the dogs 🐕🐕🦺🐶.
Mine doesn’t like water. So we have quick walks. . Had a dry walk this morning. Going for a latte now so on walk no 2. Enjoy your day. and your food. Take care. 😊
Fridge surprise salad appears to be my default meal for lunch of late! Must get out to the supermarket this afternoon once the virtual meetings have done for the day. I used to have a chocolate Labrador who had a magnetic attraction to water, I used to think he was possibly half fish... 😀
I have a fair weather dog, a rescue from Greece and she hates the rain. The looks she gives me when it rains, it's as if she thinks it's my fault 😀Here's to some dry walks for you 😀
I am part of a group that raises money for rescue dogs from all over the world, I think it's great that people have rescue pets.😊
I often think it would be easier to have dogs who don't like rain and mud, my floors would love it. Mine are funny though they love walks in the rain, but don't like going into the garden when it's raining, odd creatures.
It's heartwarming to see the difference in rescue dogs when they start to trust and get a loving home and terrible hearing their stories. Although as you say sometimes you can only imagine the horror they've been through.
It's the people in the rescue centre that do all the hard work and see the heartbreak that deserve thanks, I just help a little where I can 🙂
Roxie’s was not looked after properly. My nieces partner was cruel to her. She is terrified of water. So when my niece died I took her. Until I got her she had never seen another dog.😊
Morning all. As of 8am this morning I am now officially no longer on call, the last week has been one of the most challenging I’ve had for some time. My manager told me yesterday that he doesn’t expect me in the office, and I have nothing really to go in for so I am taking advantage and working from home, tidying up some admin and 2 Teams meetings so should be able to switch off at about 2.30. Pity I’m salaried and not paid by the hour, or I’d be a millionaire by now I reckon!
Today’s plan so far;
B; Coffee (on the second one now...)
L; Fridge surprise salad, really need to pop to the supermarket as I haven’t done any shopping since Sunday and the fridge is looking a little bare...
D; Found a piece of pork belly lurking in the freezer so that looks like a plan for this evening, probably with some mixed veg and courgette.
E; Haven’t been out for a run since Sunday so might try and get a quick 5k in later on when the meetings have finished.
Hooray! That must be a relief. I always have great respect for every with that sort of work pattern because I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to handle it. Hope things are a bit quieter for you for a while. Good luck sorting the rest of today's menu, and enjoy your run! 😊
Thanks, it's been a particularly challenging one this week due to staff shortages and various other issues, sometimes I can do a whole week with about 2-3 calls but sadly not this time! Hoping the weather gets a bit better, it's grey and damp at the moment, not ideal for my arthritic shoulder...
I am trying to do low carb as much as possible, though today and tomorrow will go a little off that due to Halloween celebrations. Tonight is an online quiz with workmates. So excited! For today, though, the plan is:
Breakfast: Bacon, egg, water (out of milk for tea... 😥)
Lunch: Cream of broccoli soup, cheese, banana, water
Dinner: Roast duck, roast veg, baked apple, red wine, water
Snacks: Coffee with milk (after going to the shops!), herbal tea, probably a few sweets, but I'm going to try to keep that down a bit
Hi, hope you dont mind me posting this late 😊 I finally got some painkillers for me knee on monday and i've been struggling with side effects. I came on here a couple of times with the intention of posting but had to stop for a nap!!
Anyway, i've enjoyed my meals today:
B: mushrooms & cheese on toast (a Thin)
L: Home made avacado & bacon soup (last mug full)
T: Salad with eggs, mushrooms and a clementine. Not put clementines in before but it was really nice. Definitely a repeat addition 😁.
This afternoon i've done 2 batches of soup; carrot & corriander and cauliflower and broccoli cheese. Havent decided which one i'll have tomorrow yet 😊.
Good to see you here. Happy you got some pain killers for your knee. Hope they are working for you. That is the problem with meds there area lot of side effects. It getting the balance right which is the hard work. Well done on making 2 lots of soup. We need it in this cold weather. They are both a good choice. I like some fruit on my salads. Great you enjoyed your food. Have a good evening sleep well and have a good Saturday. 😊
Thanks Caroline. My GP has changed them today as I'll never manage at school from monday like i was. I should get up side effect free in the morning then i can start the new one 😊.
