DAILY DIARY FOR w/b Monday 20 March 2023

Hello! Welcome to this week's daily diary. Great to see you here!

The aims of the daily diary are:

1. to record our plans for eating and exercise - which helps us stick to them

2. to share ideas

3. to get and give constructive comments about the balance of our meals.

Everyone's suggestions are based on their own ideas, beliefs and experience, and should be meant helpfully, not as criticism. It is up to us all as individuals as to whether we follow any of those suggestions.

Let us know what kind of plan you are following. If it's a calorie-counting one, let us know how many cals you are aiming for.

Tell us a bit about the exercise that you are planning to fit in, and anything else about your day.

Please please please comment on at least one other's person's post - usually the person who posted just before you - and more if you have time. We all benefit from a little encouragement! 🌻

I'll post Monday's plan here so newbies can see what to do, then will join in the fun every day.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, first of all, I had better tell you that I am not in a great place, weight-wise. I have been absent from the site for a while, and it shows, alas! I overindulged during the dark winter evenings and over Christmas time, then, at new year, I developed a horrible infection that laid me low for three weeks or so, during which I spent a lot of time in bed and got pretty much no exercise at all. Also, my social life has ramped up again, and a lot of it involves eating. I really need to lose weight now and undo all my bad habits. I know that you'll support me.

Bad habit no. 1 has been eating at work. A morning scone? A canteen lunch? The cake table? An afternoon choccie bar? I've been there for it all. No longer.

Bad habit no. 2 has been a lack of exercise. I go into the office 2 days a week only, during which I get 20 mins of cycling and about half an hour of walking. Other than that, my exercise has been pretty minimal. However, here comes the spring, and I have a large garden to get into order.

Bad habit no. 3 has been the evening nibbles. I will brush my teeth after dinner to put me off eating anything more.

MONDAY

I am going to cut out artifical sugary things, cut down on processed carbs, and cut back on tea and coffee (which I associate with sweet things). Wish me luck!

B: apples with peanut butter. A chai latte (I make mine without sugar).

L: vegetable soup

D: home made thai chicken curry, a half-portion of rice.

Other than at breakfast, I will be drinking fennel tea, which I enjoy and which doesn't make me crave a sweet thing.

Exercise will be cycling to the shops and hauling the groceries home, then another cycle trip in the evening to my choir rehearsal and back. Fixing up a new curtain rail and hanging curtains. Gardening if it's a nice day and I have any time left.

Wishing you a splendid Monday and a great week. I look forward to reading your diary entries!

Evening all, firstly thanks for hosting a fab week last week rabbit! And thanks for hosting this week bikegrrrl πŸ™‚ I hope you manage to get things back on track this week and break those habits! Your Monday plan looks great, I like the sound of the chicken curry!

My day has been good, got to everything on time so that's a bonus! I ended up having the venison roast dinner and it was delicious πŸ˜‹ then when we got back one of the sheep had popped out three tiny lambs all by herself! They are all nice and full and in a pen with a heat lamp so they should be snug for the night πŸ™‚ πŸ‘ There's still about another week to go before we start lambing in earnest so the novelty of cute lambs hasn't worn off yet!

Tomorrows plan:

B - banana and peanut butter porridge

D - carrot and ginger soup followed by plum crumble

T - Meatballs in a vegetabley sauce - peppers, tomatoes, courgette, mushrooms

Have a good Monday everyone!

glad you got your to do list checked off it’s so satisfying when that happens. I’ve never had venison. But it sounds nice. Ohhh mg πŸ₯° what a lovely surprise to come back to. Morning Sheepfan, what a lovely surprise to get home to tiny triplets, I hope they've had a good first night under the heat lamp. Haha i can imagine the novelty wears off after a while particularly when you'll also be sleep deprived then too! Glad you enjoyed the venison dinner and got everything round the farm done on time too.

Lovely meals today, i have carrot soup too but mine is cajun spiced for a change. I also have meatballs - how weird is that lol

Have a fab day and give those little lambs a cuddle from me :-) xx

Are triplets rare for sheep? Plum crumble yum. I had blueberry sponge and yogurt yesterday and two glasses of wine for mother's day. Scales are ok today. Husband away, so hopefully I can have a few serious diet days 🀞🀞Have a fab week, Sheepfan

Sheepfan profile image
SheepfanHost6kgβ€’ in reply toHopalong1

Triplets are fairly common, certain breeds moreso than others. We have 34 sets of triplets this time out of a total of around 270 sheep but our breed does tend to have less lambs. Something like a North Ronaldsay sheep you'd find triplets and even quads quite common!

It's good to have you back bikegrrrl! I hope that's the last you'll see of that infection. Sometimes bed rest is the only way that we can give our bodies a chance to recover. I've just read your "bad" habits, I'm sure that you'll knock them on the head quite quickly but please don't be too hard on yourself.

I like the sound of your meals today, snap to the apple and peanut butter.

I've been missing from the DD for a couple of weeks, too. I was spending far too much time online, I'm trying to limit it a little bit especially as the weather had improved. Today it's pouring with rain so an extra Β½ hour is neither here nor there.

I'm still following low carb, no snacking, no local plonk during the week and I'm watching portion sizes. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm catering for 1, not trying to feed the 5000! πŸ™ˆAnyway my 1st day back looks better already.

Tea 1st thing with ONE digestive biscuit.

B: Apple slices with ONE dsp of peanut butter. The jar goes back in the fridge immediately!

L: I need somewhere to put ONE dsp of delicious HM mayo so borlotti beans with onion and tuna.

D: I bought 1Kg of carrots πŸ₯• so I'm going to make carrot/cauliflower and ginger soup. This is where it's difficult to make just 1 serving, I'll probably end up with enough for 3 and I haven't got enough freezer space so 2 portions will be sitting in the fridge, I'm ONLY EATING ONE !!!

Exercise will have to be indoors, after a very quick comfort walk🐾🐾 I'll continue with my efforts on the NHS 5 weeks fitness program. As well as posting on our Fit is Fun page,

healthunlocked.com/weight-l...

I've also joined the Strength and Flex forum. I've heard that "it's never too late "!

I hope everyone has a good start to the week 🌈

Good luck managing your portion sizes with the soup! Hiding it in the fridge sounds like a good plan, out of sight!

I hope you enjoy your little walk and don't get too soaked! Well done keeping going with the strength and flex!

springersrule profile image

Morning partner, good to see you back on the diaries and keeping up with your regime with eating. i never freeze my soup, my soup maker makes 3 portions worth and i have soup mugs that i pour it into and once cold they go in the fridge and i have them for lunch til its gone. It keeps me from having all the soup in one go when its particularly tasty lol

Lovely meals for today and i had to laugh at your measurings of bisucits, peanut butter and mayo, its so easy to over do it isn't it.

How are you doing with the strength and flex exercises? Are you still enjoying it? It's definitely never to late to get a wiggle on lol

Have a fab monday, i have the rain too so may look at one of the walking exercise videos i did before i had the knee replacement instead of going out for a walk this morning. xx

TheTabbyCat profile image
TheTabbyCatAdministrator16kgβ€’ in reply tospringersrule

Thanks partner, I've definitely got a wiggle on🀣I'm just being careful how low I do the squats. Today's soup has to be the best batch ever! 3 servings, 1 in my tum and 2 cooling in an ice cream box, think tupperware :) Now that gives my age away, πŸ˜‚ lol.

springersrule profile image
springersruleModerator76kgβ€’ in reply toTheTabbyCat

You're doing the right thing, the exercises have to work for you. I did the walking workout yesterday and whilst i managed it all my steps were smaller to take account of my hip but that doesn't mean i didn't get the benefit of it :-)

lol I have a whole cupboard full of tupperware, i use it for everything - the soup mugs are a type of tupperware too :-) Now I'm either your age, or your mine 🀣🀣🀣 xx

I agree with you about spending too much time online, now the forums are getting busier I can't comment on everyone so looks like I may have to pace myself a bit and rotate around people.

Well done sticking with the strength and flex, joining the forum is a good idea. Enjoy your meals and have a lovely day, rain notwithstanding.

I'm admin for 2 forums and I've joined the S &F. I'm always surprised how the hours disappear unless I set myself a real limit. I can't comment everywhere, to everyone, this makes me feel a little guilty sometimes. I'm glad that the forums are beginning to pick up again :)

β€’ in reply toTheTabbyCat

It's because the forums are getting busy that I can't get around to everyone now, much as I try to. The Daily Diary seems turbo charged recently! This is all to the good and I think people probably understand that it's not possible to reply to everybody. It's the same for most of us I think. Best wishes ❀.

purple_ums_2Restart Sept 2024Restart July 2024

good morning bikegrrrl ! Nice to see you back! And thank you for hosting the DD this week!

Hope all the mothers on her had a lovely day yesterday!

Well yesterday for me was a completely disaster and I ended up just getting home for work and having a day long binge and bed picnic while binging tv. It felt like the first day for a long time I can remember not doing absolutely ANYTHING and just β€˜relaxing’ So that was nice but the food was excessive and that was coming of having domino’s pizza on the break at work as they β€˜treated everyone’ - don’t know what domino’s is open at 5am to make them but…… then grabbing my sausage bap and latte at the cafe and having a pizza the night before as I had to go pick my mum up at her friends house in West Sussex and she wanted to go to pizza express. So after seeing the scale slowly coming down this week I’ve gone and blown it again! So like you @bikegrrel I need to get my act together. I’m not going to beat myself up I think I needed the pressure valve to be released after reaching the 4 stone mark -though I’ve lost that now most likely so need to just get back there as a first step!

Today is a new start for me aswell- im going to weigh in to just gauge where im at it (not looking forward to that! but after then it’s back to meal planning low carb and no sugar!!! I need to crack this as I don’t want to ruin all my effort so far!

today is busy as it’s cleaning day as I didn’t do it after work yesterday so need to do my laundry and the whole place. Also need to finish the two lectures of the new module that’s been released last week managed to get one done over the weekend. It’s all about the business side of art and working out your rate and putting your portfolio together etc etc. so it’s quite dry. then have my hair appointment at 5pm to get my undercut touched up and hair styled again - My hair grows so fast he’s going to laugh Haha πŸ˜‚ and then it’s catch up with my bestie in the states - again supposed to do it yesterday night.

So as per usual it seems Monday is a correct course after the weekend! I’d normally have a nice long bath but since I’m getting my hair done I’ll have to just have a shower.

So plan today is getting back to IF, low carb, NO SUGAR!!!! And generally eating more veg!

L - tuna salad on a slice of bread with some fruit.

D - thali so - chicken curry, paneer curry, Dahl, yogurt, beetroot, spinach maybe carrot curry…? Just using up whatever is in the fridge with brown rice

Exercise - rest today as need to get my head straight but think I need to get back to my running rather than just the pt sessions and warehouse walking but not sure how to atm?

Sorry for the long post - semi thinking out loud lol. Hope everyone has a great start to the week. I’m looking forward to hearing blue everyone is doing and being back this week x

No need to apologise for the length of the post, purple_ums2, that's what this diary is for. Very good and interesting post. It's great to see your thinking . Commiserations on the carbs, but you have a plan and that's the important thing! That "dry" module sounds very necessary and important for an artist. Have a great day.

Sheepfan profile image
SheepfanHost6kgβ€’ in reply topurple_ums_2

It sounds like you really needed that break yesterday purple_ums! Not ideal with the food but you've been so busy I think some downtime will have done you good πŸ™‚ Today sounds like a great day for a reset, clean house, new haircut, back on track!

The menu today looks delicious! And good luck getting those lectures done πŸ™‚

springersrule profile image
springersruleModerator76kgβ€’ in reply topurple_ums_2

Morning Purple_ums, it does sound like you needed a rest day yesterday, i think we all get hit with that from time to time. Its good that you listened to your body and just rested. The binge is over and you can get back on it today. You've got a busy day ahead with the cleaning, course work and hairdressers so that should help stop you reaching for anything outside of your meal times. You can do this, i can hear your determination loud and clear :-)

Great meals for today, the thai sounds amazing.

Have a fab day and happy haircut (i'm 'blessed' with fast growing hair too - it a pain in the proverbial isn't it lol ) xx

β€’ in reply topurple_ums_2

I wonder if it's burnout, you've had so much going on for quite some time and sooner or later something has to give. Seems as though you really needed that rest yesterday and a chance to relax a bit.

The business model of your course is important even if it is a bit dry. Think of the day you will be making your living doing something you really love. Some more relaxation today can only be a good thing.

Enjoy your menu, enjoy taking the first steps toward getting back on track and enjoy a more peaceful day.

Glad you enjoyed your social weekend, a change from routine is no bad thing at times. Your salad is tempting me, I haven't had red cabbage for ages. Years (well, decades) ago I worked in a hospital and would sometimes eat in the canteen. Their salad bar served homemade coleslaw using red cabbage and it looked so vibrant that I began making my own. I don't much care for shop bought coleslaw, it's very anaemic looking and too little veg sloshing about in too much sauce. I tend to describe it as 'too much slaw and not enough coal'.

Enjoy your menu and have a good day.

I never used to plan any of my meals but once i joined the diaries found it a great way to keep on plan and to make the best use of what food was in the fridge/freezer/cupboards so that there was very little or no waste.

Don't forget to come back and let us know what meals you decided on.

Good morning fellow diarists and thank you Bikegrrrl for hosting us this week. I think i remember you weren't very well earlier in the year, i'm so glad to hear you are now feeling better. Its so easy to go off track in the winter and when feeling poorly but it sure looks like you mean business now with your targets for eliminating those bad habits - well done. Your meal and exercise plans for today look fabulous, enjoy the cycling and the curry.

Well i had a lovely day yesterday. I popped down to see mum in the morning (she lives further down my village so not far to walk) and then my son and his family arrived at lunchtime with some gorgeous flowers, a card and lots of hugs and kisses. We had a lovely chat and a walk up my lane accompanied by Star and Pringle - they really enjoyed getting out for a good snifari lol The famiy were also really good about finishing off my low carb egg custards as they were getting far too tempting to me, sat there in the fridge screaming Eat Me Now 🀣🀣

Today is a 4 dog day, no cockers as Dave has to fit his remaining annual leave in by the end of this month or he'll lose it. There's a possibility of a shopping trip with a friend today. One of the clothes shops in town is shutting down and there's a sale on so we might go and have a mooch to see what's on offer. If i go shopping then i'll only do one walk, if it doesn't happen today then i'll do 2. I need to watch that it doesn't wipe me out like the trip last week did :-)

My LCHF TMAD (no more than 50g carbs per day) plan for today is:

L: h/m cajun spiced carrot soup

T: h/m meatballs with shredded butter fried cabbage in a tomato based sauce

Exericse: 1 x walk and shopping or 2 walks, pottering and physio exercises

Have a fab monday everyone xx

Really pleased that you had such a lovely day yesterday and spent time with family. I bet the dogs thoroughly enjoyed their outing too. Very nice menu today and you won't be tempted by the egg custards now. Have a good shopping trip if you go, just pace yourself to be on the safe side. Enjoy your meals and have a wonderful day. Xx

Hi Springersrule, you obviously had a wonderfull mothers day seeing your mum and your son. That was so considerate of the family helping you out with the egg custardsπŸ˜€. The soup is amazing. Its the first time i've made this one and i will certainly be making it again :-) xx

Hi springersrule, we have had rain too but it did stop at about 3.0pm so hubby and I went for a walk. I hope you do manage to go out with your friend this week. My best friend and I whom I sadly lost 3 years ago after being friends for over 50 years often used to take off for the day sometimes not knowing where we were going untill we got there, we even got lost once in Derbyshire. I am glad you liked the soup. Have a nice relaxing evening.

I woke up to rain this morning and it did stop briefly around 4 but its back raining again now :-( Glad you managed to get out for a walk, i had a go at a 10 minute walking workout and was surprised how well i could do it. Im going to replace one of my walks with it as it will help strengthen my leg as a whole :-)

I have an old school friend that i used to go shop mooching with quite regularly. Her husband loved it as most of the time the only thing we actually spent money on was lunch, we were too busy nattering to pay enough attention to the shops we were in lol

Have a lovely evening too xx

Good morning fellow diarists and welcome to the forum Maudmilk I'm sure you'll get lots of advice, support and encouragement, I know I do😊So pleased you are feeling a lot better bikegrrrl and thank you for hosting πŸ˜€

This week is a reset ( another oneπŸ™„) Last week saw me very hit and miss with the DD, no running ( extra working and a bit CBA) and eating far too many carbs to pass for any liking to LCHFπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I've had a gain this week which comes as absolutely no surprise, so this week I'm hoping to get shut of it, regroup and get back on track. Taking one day at a time, so here is Mondays plan:

First thing: coffee and collagen

Brunch: tuna fusion ( soy and ginger) with salad

Tea: Hommity pie ( a cheese and potato pie without the pastry) served with steamed kale, broccoli

I am trying to reduce the caffeine ( and the biscuits that go with itπŸ˜‰) so will have peppermint tea, though the fennel tea sounds nice, I do like liquorice 😊

Exercise will be 5 mile run with running club which should ensure I get more steps in than last Monday * which was a whole 90*πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Here's to a great day 😊

Brilliant! Well done, siggie. I was just thinking, "Hm, if I could have a delicious brunch like that one, I could stick to eating healthily" .... then I realised that that is the point: I CAN eat like that, all I have to do is plan it. Thank you for the inspiration ☺️

Good morning all and thank you bikrgrrrl for hosting, it's lovely to see you back. Sorry that you have been having a bad time over winter and being unwell. That can scupper the best plans and can easily happen to any one of us. The main thing is that you are now back on track and raring to go so I wish you all the best for that.

After a very relaxing weekend I am feeling a bit lazy. I have to go into the village to pick up my meds but, otherwise, I will probably chill out again today. I might get around to doing some calligraphy later on but more likely to read. Foodwise :

B. Small bowl cereal with ff milk to line stomach for aspirin.

L. Probably some soup (canned) and a small piece of wholemeal sourdough with butter.

D. 1 pork sausage with bubble and squeak.

E. Maybe some pole walking if I feel up to it.

I got some canned soup and packets of cuppa soup because weather is unpredictable still and I don't have room in the freezer for my homemade soup. I don't want to have soup on a very warm day, we are getting quite a few warm days here at the moment. Also, I don't normally like sourdough bread but my local greengrocer has just started stocking bread from a local small bakery so I thought I would give it a try. It's delicious so I can only think it's the real deal whereas the supermarket ones are not.

Have a great day everyone.

Rabbit81 profile image
Rabbit812lbsRestart Jan 2024β€’ in reply to

I know that lazy feeling! Lol! Calligraphy sounds lovely, though reading is always a winner, too. Enjoy that menu (am drooling at all of it), and really glad you're getting some good sourdough! It is amazing how much of a difference buying local vs. the supermarket can be. I now have four different shops I go for groceries - the greengrocer for produce, the butcher's, a new plastic-free shop that carries a lot of basic items that you can bring your own containers to and fill up (they charge by weight) which is where I will now be getting all my baking stuff (they have flour, sugar, baking powder, etc), and what few things I can't get in those three places I then get from the supermarket.

β€’ in reply toRabbit81

I am lucky in having local independent shops for all my fresh produce including a fishmonger who comes to the village from Grimsby on a Tuesday afternoon. My greengrocer has his shop on a smallholding and has always stocked a selection of bread and cakes but from a commercial bakery. I don't know why he changed his supplier but he is now getting the bread from a local baker which has just the one small shop in the village and, as far as I can ascertain, all the baking is done in the shop. Greengrocer also sells local honey, jams and chutneys. As you will know, the independents are not cheap but a little goes a long way and I would rather have quality over quantity.

Rabbit81 profile image
Rabbit812lbsRestart Jan 2024β€’ in reply to

Completely agree! Also a little jealous of your fishmonger... πŸ˜‚

β€’ in reply toRabbit81

I wonder if it would be worth your while making enquiries as to whether there is a mobile fishmonger visiting your area. Depending on where you are located, the Grimsby fishmongers go to all sorts of places. I didn't know about our fishmonger until the pandemic started and I have stuck with him ever since. Alternatively, if you have access to a Waitrose store, they still have fresh fish counters in most of their stores. Good luck πŸ‘.

Rabbit81 profile image
Rabbit812lbsRestart Jan 2024β€’ in reply to

We used to have a pop-up fishmonger near the greengrocer before the pandemic hit, but I haven't seen them lately. I think there's one in the hipster plaza that's on the way to work, though. My problem is, I don't have many fish recipes, and I can be a little picky about fish... Love my shellfish, though!

Hello Hidden Good post. Glad your weekend went well. When my husband gets the sourdough in I cannot resist an end piece. I should shop, but our little local has enough. My freezer is nearly empty. Not even mystery Tupperware πŸ˜‚πŸ€£I might go for a defrost now I have spoken to you. Wishing you a chill Monday x

β€’ in reply toHopalong1

Thank you. Nothing wrong with enjoying an end of bread once in a while. A small wholemeal loaf lasts me about a month. If your local shop has enough to meet your needs then don't feel that you have to 'shop'. I hate supermarkets but quite enjoy visiting my local suppliers. It's a chance to have a chat and meet other customers who also like a bit of a chinwag. It's a whole different experience. Hope you've had a good day.

Great meals for today. I know what you mean about the difference in supermarket loaves and bakery ones, you just can't beat a good bakery :-) Enjoy the sausage and bubble and squeak too.

Hope your day has gone well and that you felt up for a walk with your poles xx

β€’ in reply tospringersrule

Thank you. You've just given me the perfect opportunity to be lazy for the rest of the week 😴. I opted for reading in the finish. Whilst I have the chance I would like to thank you for giving me the idea of asking my neighbour for potted herbs 🌿 instead of flowers or a drink. He turned up this morning with basil, coriander and flat leaf parsley. I went to the garden centre to get some compost and that was relaxing as well as a change of scenery and some fresh air. Hubby will go down to the storage container tomorrow to get the bigger pots and planters so I can pot up the herbs. They will go on a shelf in the cratch (covered front deck) and will keep on giving. Then they can go outside in the summer.

MD is going to the vet in the morning for a check over and more blood tests to see if the meds are working. We should know more about his condition by Wednesday. Hope you have had a good day.

Thanks for hosting bikegrrrl, and been there! I think you just describe most of last year for me. I'm now doing IF, but as 'no snacks after dinner' since the thought of a strict window for eating just makes me anxious (trust me, I tried!). So far it's been working pretty well for me, apart from just a couple of days my dinner didn't hold me well enough. Although even then, I managed to only eat just enough to take the edge off, instead of chomping away, which was a pleasant surprise.

Today I am wfh, and it's my first day in my new role, which sounds more exciting than it is because I'm basically still doing the same thing... at least for now. Truthfully, I expect most of this week will be wfh since the academics are all on strike for the first three days, and apart from doing some writing, I can't progress on my project until one of the academics comes back from striking and approves my risk assessment.... Fun times! It'll be okay, though. I'm quite efficient when it comes to research.

Anyway, the buns and I are loving the warmer weather! I was thinking of trying to set myself up outside to work, but it's started spritzing now, so there goes that plan. Margot has now given me some binkies two days in a row, which is SOOO lovely to see since she's my little anxious girl! Getting her to be comfortable, relaxed, and happy has been a very long journey.

For food I have:

Breakfast: Egg on half a buttered muffin, marmalade on the other half of the buttered muffin, tea with milk, water

Lunch: Fancy salad (taco meat, pico de gallo, cheese, refried beans, olive oil), an apple with cinnamon, water

Dinner: Caramelised onion and goats cheese tart, corn, spinach, two After Eights, milk, water

Snacks: Coffee with milk, herbal tea

Exercise: Monday is run day!

β€’ in reply toRabbit81

If the 'no snacks after dinner' generally works well for you then a strict IF window isn't necessary especially if it's going to cause anxiety.

Glad you and the bunnies are enjoying warmer weather, it's a shame that rain stopped play for setting up outside. Enjoy your few days working from home, enjoy your meals and have a pleasant day.

I know what you mean about the chocolate - I got a couple of boxes on Mother's Day, I hid them away but my husband and I both took me one to revive us after some DIY - putting up two double curtain tracks, which turned out not to be as straightforward as I had expected (ha! when is it ever?)

As for suggestions, I can see that there is lots of love for soup today, if that's something you like. I find it really handy and quick. If there is soup, I know I won't go for anything less healthy.

Good evening bikegrrrl and my DD friends, my Monday went as planned except for 1 glass of red +a very few peanuts which I enjoyed while I was cooking the carrots and cauliflower πŸ˜‹I suppose it could have been worse. The portion sizes were much better even though I found that only 1 dsp of HM mayo left me with the feeling that I could have had more :o I didn't, I put the jar in the fridge immediately!πŸ’ͺI have Β½ the borlotti beans and onion safely stored in the fridge along with 2 portions of the most amazing carrot/ cauliflower soup. Tomorrow Tuesday looks like this:

B: Tea 1st thing with ONE digestive biscuit! Before the 1st walkies, apple slices with ONE dsp of peanut butter. This works better than waiting for a later breakfast, it means I don't get tempted when I'm at the bar for my espresso. β˜•οΈI've got to put a little more effort into this weight loss lark.

L: I've still got some HM mayo so I'll have ONE dsp with cold roast turkey and lettuce.

D: HM Carrot/cauliflower and ginger soup.

Exercise is a longer walk with Wiggles, assuming it's not raining.

If anyone fancies having a go at making my soup here's how I make it. I haven't got a soup maker so in a biggish saucepan I soften a chopped onion , add approx Β½ Kg of chopped carrots and approx 300g of cauliflower. Season with a little salt and 1 tsp of powdered ginger. Cover with water bring to the boil and add 1 stock cube. Simmer until the carrot is soft. Blitz it all in the blender ,serve with a dsp of evo drizzled on the top and enjoy.

I hope everyone has a good Tuesday 🌈

Borlotti beans with onion, tuna and HM mayo.

I’ve been out a lot of today so not much chance to do an update so I’ll do the double now:

Tea: sausage and bean hot pot style thing, kefir yoghurt and a plum.

Tuesday:

2 x coffee

Breakfast: toasted fruit tea cake

Dinner: Leek and potato soup

Tea: Mushroom pie, baby potatoes, broccoli and carrots with gravy

Exercise: A fair bit of walking today, nothing too strenuous though as I was a bit shattered from the weekend’s dance practice and performance. Tomorrow I’ll be doing something β€˜intense’ from the Fitbit πŸ˜…

Tuesday 21stEvening everyone, Monday was a successful day, with nearly 10,000 steps, a 4.6 mile run and positive choices made for meals.

I have made a conscious decision to reduce my coffee and have had a couple of peppermint teas to replace coffee.

Tomorrow is a long one as we have a recruitment event after nursery has closed.

Plan for tomorrow is LCHF with 80-100g carbs

First thing: coffee and collagen

Lunch: ham,cheese and egg salad

Homemade granola and yoghurt with blueberries

Tea: home made cucumber soup and shaksouka ( not in the same dish I may addπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚)

Lots of water to drink and wearing my Garmin so I get the steps in x

Good morning fellow diarists and Bikegrrrl.

Well yesterday didn't really go to plan at all except for my meals. It chucked it down pretty much all day so me and my friend postponed the shopping trip and i didn't get out for my walks either. I did put on the 10 minute walking workout though (i did this before i had the knee replacement) and as really pleased that i managed it. I little slower than the ladies on screen and not quite the full step strides but i felt it gave my leg muscles a good work out so i'm going to swap one of my daily walks for this workout. I think it will be of more benefit and as I'm taking more weight through the operated leg and that's something i need to start doing. It was a pretty quiet day in the end but i enjoyed it :-)

Today is a 6 dog day as little Nellie and Betty arrive for a little holiday (til sunday) . I've no real plans for the day other than to play in the garden with the dogs and to do my walking work out and get out for a walk before the rain comes back.

My LCHF TMAD plan for today is:

L: h/m cajun carrot soup (its gorgeous)

T: from the freezer - a surprise but i think i may have finally stumbled on the shakshouka 🀣🀣

Exercise: 1 x walk, 10 minute walking workout, pottering and physio exercises

Have a fab tueday everyone xx

Sounds like rain really stopped play for you yesterday. It's good that you were able to do the indoor walking workout and it will be more beneficial to replace one of your outdoor walks with it. Every raincloud has a silver lining.

I like the sound of the doggy gloves i bet he loves the tummy rub with them, mine love being rubbed down with a towel.

I'm really lucky that the damp or wet has never affected my joints, the heat does though. As soon as we get warm weather all my joints swell and i get very stiff.

Good morning all and thank you bikrgrrrl for hosting.

I'm a bit late logging in this morning as M.D. had an early appointment with the vet for blood tests to see whether the meds are starting to work. We should get the results tomorrow afternoon. M.D. was very lively in the vet's, had everyone in stitches and the vet reckoned he hadn't read the manual about keeping calm!

Yesterday didn't go according to plan foodwise. Hubby had a bit of queasy tummy and said he didn't want any dinner. I got a ready meal for myself but by dinner time I wasn't feeling hungry so that will have to go in the freezer for another time.

I went to garden centre on my way back from a bit of shopping in the village and had a pleasant mooch around, I needed some compost and, surprisingly, that was the only thing I bought - I am a bit of a terror when in garden centre, remind me to tell you about the motorbike trees sometime.

Hubby has just got back from the storage container with my indoor planters so I can get my new herbs potted up. So, food today:

B. Toast and marmalade. Eaten late, after we got back from vet.

L. Probably a piece of fruit if hungry, due to late breakfast.

D. Pork sausage with bubble and squeak (postponed from yesterday).

E. Got to go to village again as fishmonger comes this afternoon. I have to stock up on fish for MD, also butcher to get chicken for the little chap as well. On the subject of fish, I took out an odd piece of white fish earlier to cook for MD's lunch, thinking it was cod or haddock. When defrosted it turned out to be a very expensive piece of halibut. Oh well, he'll be lunching like a lord today!

Have a great day everyone.

Aaahhh! The motorbike trees usually have people in fits. Re the garden centre - sometimes I have to remember that living on a boat I have very limited growing space so I can't go mad like I used to. Enjoy your evening.

Hopalong1 profile image

Glad MD was perky at the vet's. With our collie, she had liver when she was poorly and couldn't get enough. The vet said it would be good for her. Roy thinks he's human and likes most food. What a excellent idea having storage. Bubble and squeak, how lovely. I am thinking potato with tomorrow's dinner. Enjoy the rest of your day Hidden x

M.D. definitely enjoyed his luxury dining, he's got expensive tastes. Just hope I don't have to go on the streets to pay for it all! Amazing how I went to the garden centre for compost and wasn't tempted to buy anything else. Enjoy your evening.

You made me laugh with the halibut for MD, i think i would have been changing my food plan and getting another piece of the freezer for him lol

Howdy all! On a bit late after allowing myself to sleep until I woke up naturally today. I didn't sleep in too much, but then the buns wanted another long run around the garden. Margot has now been jumping up on the bench with obvious confidence and today she and Lola nearly came out into the back lane! The little lady certainly tried to emulate her brother by partially crawling out under the gate. πŸ˜‚ She got too nervous, though, and came straight back, but Mama tried to encourage her and her sister to come out when the gate was open and Mama was standing guard. Nothing doing, but baby steps and all that. Our forage box, and the girls' birthday treat (dandelion roots) finally arrived, so we have all been very happy that we have tasty things to eat with our hay.

For food I have:

Breakfast: Egg on half a buttered muffin, marmalade on the other half muffin, tea with milk, water

Lunch: Fancy salad (roquefort cheese, dried cranberries, cashews, pumpkin seeds, balsamic vinegar, olive oil), strawberries with sugar-free vanilla pudding, water

Dinner: Caramelised onion and goats cheese tart, corn, two squares dark chocolate, milk, water

Snacks: Coffee with milk, hopefully nothing else

Exercise: Just did a walk to the shops, hopefully fencing tonight, but if it rains like it did last night then forget it. Not so keen on being on a scooter in significant rain! ...I really need a car... πŸ˜…

I have a real problem with food. My intention is to eat for nutrition, not for comfort. But the cravings are unreal, unless I go pretty low carb and no sugar, which I did for 3 weeks, didn't see the result I wanted on the scales last week, and then decided stuffing my face with bread and chocolate over the weekend is the only obvious solution. Oh dearie.

I'm on work canteen meals today, roughly sticking to calorie count not exceeding 1500 low carb:

B: satsuma, melon medley, porridge, tea with milk

L: caesar salad with broccoli and pecans

snack: one lindor if needed to get through the day

D: tomato and pepper soup, egg and bacon sandwich on brown bread

Cycling commutes for exercise.

Evening all and thank you bikegrrrl for hosting this week, great to have you back and hopefully you are fully recovered from the nasty infection. It's so easy to get into bad habits, especially when its cold and you just want to comfort eat. I'm sure being back on here and getting out in the garden will sort those bad habits out in no time. 😊

This is the first time I've been on this week as the last week or so haven't been great and I've been struggling, but hopefully things are starting to look up now.

My youngest daughter had her scan this morning, following on from last weeks un-reassurance one and the hospital said the baby has grown and they detected a heartbeat, albeit fairly weak. So next week we are back for another scan to confirm the baby is growing ok, but it looks like she is still pregnant. 😊

My no added sugar stint came to an end, as I ended up sharing a pack of GF Jaffa cakes with my husband instead of dinner one evening as we got home late. Although other than that and a few very dark chocolate chips, I have avoided added sugar, so I'm taking that as a win. 😊

Despite today's promising news and still maintaining a fairly healthy diet and managing to exercise I am feeling drained both physically and emotionally. I think supporting my daughter, having a dog who is waiting for a scan to see what is going on with his heart, work being manic as we are so understaffed and dealing with my migraines has finally taken it's toll. However we are going away Friday morning for a long weekend and just taking one of the dogs with us, so I'm really looking forward to relaxing and not worrying about anything for a few days. 😊

I am still following a LCHF, TMAD, GF and no added sugar plan

Today I had:

L-salad with egg and tuna

D- Sunday veg left over bubble and squeak, with halloumi (cooked by my husband)

Tomorrows plan is:

L-Salad at work

D- easy peasy fishcakes

Exercise- walk with the dogs before work.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday. 😊

It’s been the best part of a week now since I last submitted a DD post so apologies for not being as engaged as some of the other members here. I admire you all with your thoughtful and supportive posts. I feel some days I just don’t have the headspace to be accountable to myself, let alone then write about it here.

We celebrated my daughter’s 3rd birthday the weekend just gone, and I hosted my family after a very long time. It was the first time since little man was born (he’s nearly 7 months old) and then the following day, I took her to a soft play date with her friends. I was WIPED when we came back. Tbh I am still not fully recovered from it, more so because she has been home the last two days as well. Can you believe she opened every single birthday present, but only one or two held her for more than 10 minutes? Kids! They drive you potty….

Thanks to the celebrations the fridge has been well stocked with carby leftovers and cake. Lots of cake (even after sharing out). My husband has refused to help me clear any of it, so grudgingly I tried and sacrificed my weight loss the last couple of days. I couldn’t bear to think of it going to waste, but there’s only so much I could take before it then went to the food waste bin ☹. Pretty gutted about that actually.

But, tomorrow is a new day. Determined to start LCHP again, and then we are welcoming Ramadan on Thursday officially. I am a bit lost how to eat tbh, as I need to be sustained from apx. 4am till 7pm. Should I take carbs in the morning because I don’t think protein alone will get me through the day? Should I move my weigh in time to the evening before I break my fast? Currently I weigh in the morning after I wake up.

Ramadan is a famous time to have fried foods like onion bajis, samosas etc but I defo want to try and be healthier this year. Fingers crossed I can do. Too much walking can make you light headed when you cant take food or water so healthy options will be the only real control I can have.

On top of all this I am mentally preparing myself to return to work after maternity leave (was thinking May) but there is uncertainty around my daughter’s nursery placement now she is 3, around the free childcare arrangement under the government for 30 hours. I don’t think I can juggle her as I have been for much longer as she clearly needs the stimulation but there’s a chance I may have to.

Anyway enough negativity and sorry for the moaning. It’s not all doom and gloom, there have been some brighter moments too. My kids have been very entertaining this week so that’s been a big plus. Hope everyone is having a good week.

Tomorrow’s menu plan:

B: 2 scrambled eggs and something low carb to accompany, cup of tea.

L: Falafel salad

D: Might skip or cup of tea.

For those of you who do eat carbs, when do you eat them? I get up with my kids at 6am ish, and I am absolutely starving since I skip dinner most nights. But then by 11am I am hangry as hell and ready for lunch and I usually am hungrier than at breakfast time. I was thinking to have carbs first thing would be better, as it would take the whole day to work off (in theory). Would welcome your thoughts here.

Turned into a rather long post so sorry for that!

Hi, HS90 and it's good to see you here! You have a lot going on, with a toddler and a small baby! When my children were small, the midwife used to say that if you don't look after yourself, you can't look after anyone else. I think it's true. πŸ˜‰ That's not to give you something else to beat yourself up about though - just remember to take time when you need it. Can you rope anyone in to watch the kids so you can have have an hour to yourself for a bubble bath? Or whatever you like doing.

Also, while it isn't Ramadan, maybe you should try eating something at dinnertime. It's very tiring running about after small people all day.

What a nuisance about the leftovers - next time, could you get your guests to take some away with them?

About carbs - I'm not Muslim and I don't observe Ramadan, but I would think that carbs would just make me feel hungrier during the day. Try it out, though? Experiment with just protein and veg one night, carbs another night, and a mixed strategy yet another night. See which one gets you through the best.

Have a lovely Wednesday!

good luck figuring out how to work around with the Ramadan requirements. I would suggest playing it by ear and seeing what works for you. Glad you and the fam enjoyed the celebrations and good luck with return b to work.

Re carbs - my trainer always says eat them earlier so if that works for you that’s great. I tend to (when I’m in my rhythm) have more at lunch than dinner for sure. X

springersruleModerator76kgβ€’ in reply toHS90

Morning HS90, wow, i'm not surprised you haven't had time to pop on here with all that going on. My kids are in the mid 30's now and you do forget just how busy and exhausting it can be. Remember you are doing a great job juggling everything and getting to the end of each day in one piece lol

I'm not sure about the best time to eat carbs as i dont really eat them, only in veg most of the time. What i do know from before i started eating that way is that i don't have the cravings for food i used to have. I have my main meal in the evening - some protein, fats and lots of veg - that keeps me going til lunchtime the next day. I stopped eating breakfast when i realised i was eating it out of habit not because i was hungry. Lunch is usually a small meal just to put me on til tea time. I think you'll need to play around with your meals duing ramadan. Dont be afraid to have some fats in the morning, cook something in butter, the fats will keep you feeling fuller than carbs.

Enjoy your meals today and have a great day xx

Hi HS90

First of all happy birthday to your daughter :)

I remember "having" to eat leftovers and it took me ages to learn the art of not over-buying in the first place, to be honest, I still have trouble walking past the still fresh cabinet in a supermarket because I worry the food will be thrown out. Ridiculous I know, but I think it comes from my mum being a refugee and nearly starving so she never ever let us leave anything on the plate. She never over-bought like I do thiugh so I guess my traits are the worst of both worlds πŸ˜‚

Regarding fasting - the only thing I can offer is from friends who have tried to stay healthy during Ramadan. Making sure that when you break your fast you have fluid rich things available, such as fruit (watermelon - not sure if it's available at this time of year), and avoid anything that is very salty helps avoid the sluggish tired feelings . Fizzy drinks aren't good either as these can dehydrate you too. I hope that isn't patronising, it's what I remember friends doing :)

I'm vegetarian calorie counter, and I like bread, rice and potatoes. However, I try not to have too many in any one day, and I go for those that are less processed, so brown rice, wholemeal bread which I get from a bakery, not the supermarket.

Through experimenting, I've discovered that having my main carbs earlier in my day serves me better. I sometimes have just 2 meals a day, but that tends to be brunch and an evening meal. The thing is, everyone is different, so don't think you need to fit into a particular method.

Most of all, remember this weight loss business is a journey, not a race. Give yourself time and space to experiment for the best route for you. Also make it something sustainable, once you reach your target, you want to be able to happily stay there.

All the best :)

morning everyone. Sorry I’ve been absent the last few days my intention to reset after the weekend went to pot/ got worse even as I feel like I’ve fallen into a spiral and struggling with my mental health atm.

Went to the GP yesterday which I was going to cancel and now which I had as she was absolutely beyond pointless not saying anything useful and trotting off basic info you can literally get from Google! I did end up walking there and back which is good as at least I moved but the last 3 days have literally been me in bed all day with my food picnic of crap! Idk what’s happened or why this has hit all of a sudden but really struggling atm and have had a tension headache which might be due to the high increase in sugar!

I’ve promised myself I would do better today and am just about to weigh in and see the damage πŸ˜₯. Just wanted to check in with everyone though.

I have no energy atm to plan meals BUT will try and be more restrained today and drink lots of water to help flush this crap out of my system! But motivation at an all time low atm.

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the blue skies and daffodils and they start to come through

X

Morning Purple_ums and so sorry to hear you are struggling and that the GP was no help. I dont know what your GP practice is like but the website for mine gives a bio of each gp and the areas they excel in. Is it worth having a look and seeing if seeing a different GP would be beneficial?

Try to be easy on yourself and see if you can pick one thing for you to achieve today, even if that's just to get out of bed and sit in a chair for an hour and read. Just something small that will give you an easily achievable target. One small thing can lead to wanting another small thing and before you know it you have turned a small corner and the path feels easier.

Fingers crossed on good food choices today. Hang on in there, you'll get through this.

Big hugs ❀️❀️ xx

Awww I'm really sorry about your mental health. Your GP sounds as bad as my old one 😒 most of the time it takes a while to find a decent one. Take things one step at a time. Maybe try small goals. Like I'll get out of bed and make a cup of tea and watch something you enjoy. Nothing too big or daunting. Just small things. I hope you feel better soon. Like Springer said as well maybe pick 1 thing to do for the day and that can be a big accomplishment when we struggle to do anything at all xx

Hi purple_ums_2, sorry to here you are still struggling with your mental health, doctors these days are under so much pressure that it must be easier just to print something off rather than taking the time to really talk to someone and find out what exactly is going on. I must admit of doctors are very good. It will take time but you will get better I am sure.

Good morning fellow diarists and Rabbit, wednesday already! the week is just running away.

Yesterday was a really good day, it was a little bit on the windy side but lovely and sunny so i did 2 walks outside to make the most of it. My first walk was the big one (1.5km) and just far enough out of the village that i could see the white horse at Kilburn on the hills in the distance. Funny how you miss something you are used to seeing everyday but don't always really notice it! The dogs had great fun playing in the garden, i chopped their carrot up even smaller so they really had to search for it. I wish i could attach a video here so you could watch them too :-) Then, fanfare please, it was time for tea and yes, yes, yes i have finally found the shakshuka and really enjoyed it - i've even taken a pic to show you lol

Today is an 8 dog day and despite planning things with military like precision, it was a mad house at 7:15 when the cockers, little Eddie and my shopping all arrived at the same time!! The shopping guy was really lovely and waited while we got the dogs inside before bringing the shopping in. I have to say the drivers have all been lovely and helpful. Now that that is all out of the way and my morning chores and physio done the rest of the day should be more relaxed. I am planning on a long walk this morning, the 10 minute walking workout early afternoon and then a short walk with Mr P when i meet Claire and Ash at the pub tonight. We have a table booked so we'll definitely get a seat tonight :-)

My LCHF TMAD plan for today is:

L: H/m cajun carrot soup

T: (from the freezer) bolognese served on butter fried cabbage

Exercise: 2 x walks, walking workout, pottering and physio

Have a wonderful wednesday everyone xx

My shakshuka,... at last lol x

Hi Springersrule, we do tend to take our local areas for granted. It is very quiet where I live with farm land at the bottom of our street so within a 10 walk we can be in some very nice countryside. So you finally found the shakshuka which looks very nice. Enjoy your evening at the pub!!

Today's plan is LCHF with 80-100g carbs

First thing: coffee and collagen

Lunch: scrambled egg on toast

Tea: shaksouka

Running 5 mile with running club

I wasn't here for last week as I was on holiday. It went really well. I walked a lot, I brought loads of meals to cook and had some treats too. This was the 1st holiday I've ever been on and not gained weight. I've actually lost 2lbs. So I'm very happy =)

Back to it now as I have missed my weights workouts. Also my bf has a new job with regular work shifts instead of all over the place so we've decided to go to the gym together so I'm looking forward to that as well =)

Not counting calories or carbs. Just aiming to eat healthier and reduce unhealthy snacks.

B: 2 weetabix with milk + protein yogurt

L: planner Tikka masala with boiled rice (hm)

D: tomato and basic soup with focaccia

S: packet of crisps, cheese string, dairy lea dunkers

E: weights workout

Have a good day everyone x

Well! Wow, did I end up having a traumatic day yesterday. Everything was going fine up until just after lunch when there was a knock at my door which revealed a lad from the letting agency looking to do my yearly property inspection. Only, I had not been informed of this. He was perfectly nice, seemed a little surprised I did not know he was coming, and did offer to reschedule (seeing how it is a legal requirement to give a minimum 24 hours notice!), so I could have refused. But, I'm very much a 'let's just get this over with' sort of person, so I let him in. Unfortunately, I'm also extremely house proud, so even though he assured me he'd seen worse, it was traumatically mortifying for me, such that I'm now taking a mental health day, mostly so I can clean...

For food today I have:

Breakfast: Egg on a buttered muffin (finished off the marmalade yesterday, though I do have a second jar...), tea with milk, water

Lunch: Fancy salad (falafel, hummus, sunflower seeds, cashews, dried veg, olive oil), an apple with cinnamon, water

Dinner: Tomato soup with cheese and crostini, something else to go with it because I know that won't be enough on its own (probably either sausages or a cheese toasty), two squares dark chocolate, milk, water

Snacks: Coffee with milk, hopefully nothing else, but we'll see

Exercise: Yoga, walk to the shops for either bread or sausages

Hi bikergrrl, and fellow diarists,I'm a bit late to the party today after being AWOL yesterday. We had someone doing repairs to the roof and fitting a dry verge system and has we live in a bungalow the noise drove me up the wall, as well has that I had a phone call from a friend in need but I could hardly hear her because of all the banging. Then I had a few words with my son about a car he was planning to buy which really was nothing to do with me as he is a married man with a family. I phoned to apologise. He knows I am a typical Leo who will flare up and then come down just as quickly so no damage done there thankfully. Today has been much better we visited BIL and SIL and have arranged to go out to lunch with them tomorrow. My plan for today:

B. 2 boiled eggs.

L. Beef paste sandwich.

D. Spaghetti Bolognaise .

Have a good evening everyone.

Hi Momo, oh that noise sounds really stressful. We've recently had background noise of a new estate having the piling driven in. I wouldn't mind but its being built a good 5 miles away in another village but boy it was enough to give me a headache here!! I hope you managed to help your friend and your son will always forgive you :-)

Love the spaf bol, i'm having that too but with shredded cabbage in place of the spaghetti.

Hope today has been better and have a lovely evening xx
