Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s daily diary. I hope you are keeping well and enjoying the start to spring 😊 I am particularly enjoying the magnolias this year, they really are amazing around here.
For those new to the diary, this is where we record our eating plans for the day, share ideas and get constructive comments on our menus from others-all of which helps us to firm up our plans and make it more likely we stick to them! Please share what kind of plan you are following, whether that be calorie counting, LCHF or other. If calorie counting, please state the range you are aiming for. Please comment on at least three other members posts, more if you can 😊
I am continuing to aim for a lower carb diet (under 100g), reducing ultra processed food and only eating in an 8-10 hour “window” with 2 meals (and 1 snack if I need it) during that time. This generally suits me quite well. Exercise continues to be challenging-my job has becoming increasingly sedentary over the last few years and am sometimes quite late home, but now the evenings are getting lighter I am aiming to be more boundaried about leaving work on time and getting a regular walk in after work.
As ever, I am looking forward to hearing your plans and pinching ideas!

Hi babss, thank you for taking care of us this week and so pleased that you enjoying life and outdoors more despite the long hours!
We had a lovely a bit more diet relaxed weekend with a pasta dish yesterday nom nom and a lot of time outdoors tidying the garden. I am a bit fed up with my scales atm and platoeing so I might give things a rest and restart breakfasts, IF/low carb not shifting anything.... On a positive note I am off to see my familiy in Poland on Thursday for a couple of weeks, it will be good not to stress over a lack of weight loss and just enjoy life...
Still continuing with somatic workouts, which are fab.
I am eating LCHF - Big Bear Salads (ELAB framework)
B: coffee with cream & 120g greek yoghurt with a bluberries, sunflower seeds and few slices of own peaches
Morning MonLew, have a lovely time in Poland, I'm sure getting away and not stressing about things will do you good, it can be so frustrating when we plateau and sometimes a small change can help.
Lovely meals again, your garden must be looking lovely with all the hard work you've been doing in it. We are hoping to get some bits done in ours this week, weather permitting.
Thank you Loraine:), you are absolutely right:)! Fingers crossed you can get out there and enjoy the garden, feels like the spring should be here any minute now:)! xx
Hi MonLew, I know exactly how you feel,my scales aren't playing ball either. I hope you have a really good time with your family in Poland. Sometimes it does us good not to stress about weight loss. Have a lovely day and enjoy your meals.😊
Thank you for your kinds words and support Momo, it's soo lovely to know that you care and you know how it feels:). Thank you and will try and keep in touch, not having access to scales everyday should help too plus the social aspect yay! Take care xx
Good morning fellow diarists and thanks for hosting us this week babss, I love magnolias and have a beautiful one in my front garden, which is in full bloom now.
I must admit I have always found exercising difficult, especially in winter, as I have a 45 minute drive each way to work and it's often dark when I get home. I love the start of spring with the lighter mornings and evenings and we are really enjoying our walks with the dogs before work each morning.
To help with exercise in the long winter months we have recently turned our conservatory, which had become a dumping room, into a gym and VR room. We have a spin bike, vibro plate machine, large gym ball and weights in there and have just ordered a new tread mill, which should arrive by early May. I also bought some exercise, Thai chi and mindfulness apps for our VR headset.
We are off work this week but not going away and we are still having the grandchildren as usual. So today we have granddaughter before and after nursery. I have booked an escape room this morning, which I am looking forward to, then one of the dogs and the cat have vet check ups this afternoon before we pick up granddaughter. In between I'm hoping to go on the spin bike and do some housework before my daughter and grandson come to stay for a few days tomorrow.
I planned my meals for the days we are not eating out this week, so will hopefully stay mainly on track. I'm still gf, no added sugar, calories and carb counting, IF, and TMAD
Morning Loraine, Sounds like you have a busy day ahead of you. Have a lovely week off work sometimes it is nice just to enjoy your home and family when you are on leave from work. Enjoy the escape room we bought vouchers for my DIL for her birthday and they had a great time. Snap on the haddock that's what we are having for lunch only I'm having a jacket potato with mine. Have great day.😊
Hello Momo, quite busy but also fun, we really enjoyed the escape room and were kindly given a little extra time to complete the task, as it was our fist time. We only needed an extra 10 minutes and we found the treasure, which was pack of organic green and black mini bars of chocolate. Enjoy your haddock and jacket, and have a great day too. 😊xx
Thanks Momo it was fun and we will definitely be going again. We've had a small bar of chocolate each, which wasn't too bad and fitted into my calories and carb allowance today, so all good. It was very tasty. 😋xx
Your conservatory set up sounds great! I have wanted to try an escape room for ages. You have inspired me-will book one for a couple of weeks time when I have some leave-will give my daughters a break from studying too (A levels and dissertation!)
I'm sure you will all enjoy the escape room, the hour went really fast but it was great fun and would certainly be a great distraction from studying. Very good for getting the brain thinking in a different, fun way too. 😊xx
Morning all and thanks babss for looking after us this week. I know what you mean about getting exercise in especially during the winter, if it wasn't for Tilly 🐶 I doubt I would get out as much. Plus having a desk job the last thing my body thinks it needs is to suddenly get up and start exercising so finding ways to add more is also a goal of mine.
purplemisty , apologies for not replying to your question yesterday, I missed the cutoff for the DD. The Lego set is a Yamaha motorbike 👍
Not much planned today though I do need to pop to the supermarket to stock up on a few things.
Meals today are:
B: Porridge and kefir
L: Chicken filled bagel plus a banana
D: Chicken Kyiv with rice and side salad. Yoghurt and honey for dessert
Morning Tank, Merlin can be a bit like that, whereas Blue, just tires to pull my arm off rushing like a mad thing, sometimes I'd like to mix them up, so I had normal dogs who walked at my pace. 🤣xx
Hi Tank, I remember it well all those walks with my little Bichon in all weather's except the snow he flatly refused to go out in it I think he was afraid of getting lost in it as he was a little white fluffy dog. I am looking out at the rain now and aware that we have to take our son's dogs out soon. I like the sound of your meals especially the Chicken Kyiv. Have a lovely day and enjoy your walks with Tilly😊
I can remember just a big box of bricks we were allowed to play with at primary school when it was raining. Such a difference today, we even bought my son a set with a programmable controller to make robots with 👍
Morning babss and thanks for hosting this week! Hopefully you'll be able to get out more after the clocks change next weekend. That'll make a big difference!
My meals for today look like this:
B - toast with soft cheese and jam, 1/2 mango
D - I have a feeling it'll be a jacket potato
T - corned beef hash type thing. It'll be corned beef, chickpeas, mushrooms, courgette and runner beans
Hi Sheepfan, I think we are all looking forward to the clocks going back next week. I am sure it makes a big difference to your working day. Enjoy your meal and have a lovely day.😊
Thanks for hosting this week, babss! I agree about the magnolias. It's why I'm a little impatient for my cherry and crab apple trees to start blossoming. They're on their way, though.
I had a bit of a rough weekend when I got an email saying they're upping my rent again this year. It's probably less of a big deal than what it seems, but that doesn't stop us from feeling very anxious about it. It all makes me feel like no matter how well I do with my career, and how many promotions I get, I'm never going to be able to save up enough to buy my own place... 😔
For food today, I have:
Breakfast: Egg, buttered sourdough crumpet, tea with milk, water
Lunch: Fancy salad (not sure which one I'll go for today), an apple, matcha latte, water
Dinner: Gnocchi with baked chicken, cheese, and pesto, some sort of veg (either steamed mixed veg or another, smaller salad), frozen fruit smoothie, water
Snacks: Coffee/tea with milk
Exercise: It should be a run day, but I'm not sure I'll have time today. I do need to walk to the shops for more bun veg and to collect some online auction stuff from a nearby friend.
I can totally understand why you're feeling anxious about that! Don't get me started on house/land prices and rents! We got our grazing renewal through with a note from the land agent which said "I've pro-rata'd an extra month on to your agreement and rounded the total up for you" ? Erm thanks for rounding our bill we have to pay you up I guess? Could you not round it down?? 🙄
Have a great day, your gnocchi sounds absolutely amazing 😋
I just keep feeling like every time I'm about to finally get ahead (or at least feeling semi-stable), I get pushed right back down! Like it's not expensive enough already just trying to live on a single income because EVERYTHING is rigged against single people... It's why I'm all in favour of making the term 'singlism' mainstream - there really is systematic discrimination (particularly financially) against single people!
Morning babss and everyone, I had a busy weekend and I did't do very well at staying within my calorie and carbs limits If I am honest I think I was disappointed at having really stuck to plan but having a gain in Wion Saturday so I was rebelling a bit I did enjoy sharing a pizza with hubby. I am over it now though and back on track. Our leisure centre is going to close for several months for a refurb after Easter so this morning I tried another pool in our area, I went early and there were only 6 people in and no music so it was a lovely quiet swim so when our's closes I will be heading there on a regular basis. I am swapping lunch for dinner today because I have a AGM meeting at 5.00pm . It is raining heavy here and we have the Spaniels to walk so hoping it slows down soon. My meals for today are:
B. bacon and egg.
L. Haddock, jacket potato and mushy peas.
T. Not sure yet depends on what time the meeting ends but it will be something light.
Well done getting back on track momo! It can be really frustrating when you don't see the result you were expecting!
I'm glad you've found another pool that suits you while yours is closed. It sounds lovely and quiet! Enjoy those meals and I hope the rain stops for you to give those spaniels a walk 🙂
Been there, Momo! Glad you were able to get it out of your system quickly, and that you've found a replacement pool for while yours is closed. Good luck with the meeting!
Sounds like you are starting to get things sorted now Etriker67, 🤞 the weather is kind and allows you to walk more in the evenings as planned. Enjoy your tasty meals and have a great day. 😊xx
Well I did better than recently, only 6 apples not in my calories. Tomorrow is my monthly blood test, so I'll be out in the morning. My food for tomorrow is:
B: porridge and banana
L: eggs in some form
D: lamb mince hot pot and mixed veg (carrot, peas, sweetcorn)
Morning fellow diarists, the escape room yesterday was great fun and we were kindly given an extra 10 minutes to complete our task and find the chocolate. We will definitely be going again. 😊 I also planned my meals for the days we are not out this week and managed to get on the bike and did a lot of active minutes when my granddaughter was at nursery. Then had a relaxing evening in the hot tub.
Today we have planned another fairly busy day, we've walked the dogs, slightly later than usual and now having our usual pots of green tea.
I'm planning on sorting some of the garden and the hot tub this morning, hoping the rain holds off and we also need to check my car tyre, as the warning light came on. I also want to tidy the house and fit in a session on the spin bike before my grandson and daughter descend on us this afternoon for a few days.
Food for today:
L- probably something with eggs
D- Chicken with tomatoes and veg
Exercise-walk with dogs, done, spin bike and housework
so glad you enjoyed the escape room especially if you managed to find a chocolate reward. And the rest of your day sounded like a good mix of exercise and relaxation 👍
All the best getting all your jobs done, I'm planning to get our hot tub ready for summer when Mrs Tank and I are off after Easter. Plus your meals look nice and tasty too, 🤞 finding something to go with your eggs at lunchtime 😀
Thanks Tank, we will definitely be going again and the chocolate was a lovely bonus.
We've done quite a bit today, do you use your hot tub all year round or just in the warmer weather? We've managed to use ours most of the year, apart from when we were ill. 😊
I think we are having stuffed mushrooms, poached eggs and roasted cherry tomatoes for lunch. 😊xx
We've only had the hot tub a year and despite our intentions to use it through the winter, we did only use in the warm summer months.
So it has been on all year so far but on a winter mode, I think next winter I will drain it and keep switch everything off until the late spring / early summer 👍
That sounds like such a lovely day! Glad you had fun with the escape room, and the hot tub sounds divine. Good luck with all the sorting of things, and hope you have a lovely time with your daughter and grandson!
Thanks Grigid it was a great day, we decided to make the most of probably the only day of our holiday that we will be on our own. Today is going ok ish so far. 😊xx
Hi Loraine, I'm glad you had a good day yesterday. You are really getting on with your exercises well done. I hope you manage to get all your planned jobs done before your daughter and grandson arrive it is always harder to get things done when you have extra bodies in the house. Is this the same tyre you were having trouble with recently? Enjoy your meals and have a great day.😊xx
Hi Momo, we've had another good day and managed to get everything sorted, luckily the outside jobs were done before the rain set in for the say. Yes it is the same tyre, I must see if they give a guarantee as they might sort it for us, although it's holding up OK at the moment. Xx
Hi Loraine, I'm pleased you had a good day and got the outside jobs done before the rain came. Easter doesn't look very promising weather wise but fortunately apart from going out for a meal on Saturday night we have no plans. Have a lovely evening.xx
Thanks Momo, we are going to the zoo tomorrow with daughter and grandson, it looks like it's the best day and should be mainly dry in the afternoon. We will be doing an Easter egg hunt for grandson, but may have to be indoors and hoping to do some gardening, but not sure that will be happening now. Hope you're having a good evening. 😊xx
Morning all and thanks again babss for being our fabulous host this week 👍
Not much to report on today, I need to chase up my car dealership as I have found a potential defect with the car but no-one seems to want to phone me back 😣
Other than that it is just work plus a walk or 2 with Tilly 🐶
Food today is:
B: Porridge and kefir
L: Chicken filled roll plus a banana
D: Prawn stir fry with fennel and spinach. Usual yoghurt and honey for dessert
Hi Tank, I| hope you manage to get your car problems sorted, it is always the same nobody rings you back because they may have to do something about your problem. Enjoy your meals and your walks with Tilly.😊
I'm hoping they will sort it out, it is a crack in the large sunroof so I just need to prove that it happened during manufacture which may be difficult. 🤞 though
Morning all! Well today is (I think) my last normal/chilled out morning for a while. I've early milking tomorrow and then I'm expecting lambs Thursday as they are officially due to start on Friday (there's always someone keen to get going!) 🐑
The main job today is getting some lambing pens put up ready! I always think I have loads of time to get ready, then realise I actually don't 😅
So food today is:
B - banana and peanut butter porridge
D - fish fingers, mash, peas, beetroot followed by stewed rhubarb and cream
T - leftover corned beef hash type stuff from last night
Enjoy your (hopefully) chilled out morning! Hope all goes well with the lambing! On the way to our industry partner meeting last week we passed a few fields full of ewes and lambs. 🥰 Enjoy that menu!
Hi Sheepfan, I hope you managed to get that chilled out morning, looks like you are going to be very busy for a while but don't forget to take a little time out for yourself. Good luck with the lambing. I haven't had fish fingers for ages but you have put the idea in my head now😊 I hope football practice went well last night and that you are not suffering. Enjoy the rest of your day.😊
Morning all! I'm on site for work this morning, but will need to head home for the afternoon as I have a GP appointment later. The poor buns refused to come out to play today. A few houses down is doing something in their garden which involves a lot of loud, scary, heavy-duty machinery, so the sound and the smell were scaring them a bit. I've put a blanket over the inside of the bun-house door to try to help deaden the sound a little for them, and otherwise just did my best to be normal around them to signal that it was nothing to worry about.
For food, I have a repeat of yesterday:
Breakfast: Egg, buttered sourdough crumpet, tea with milk, water
Lunch: Fancy salad (chicken poppers one), an apple, water
Dinner: Gnocchi with chicken and pesto, some semblance of veg, a frozen fruit smoothie, water, maybe some tea of some sort
Snacks: Coffees with milk
Exercise: A bit of running around labs and hopefully some heavy lifting (need to get an instrument out of one lab and into another). It's fencing night, too, but my head is still in a bad place so I'm not sure I'll go (I'm starting to panic that my bunny care arrangements for when I'm away next week may fall through since I haven't been able to get confirmation from the boarder...).
Poor little buns! Hopefully the job doesn't drag on too long and they can relax again! It sounds like you've done all you can to minimise stress for them.
I hope today goes ok, 🤞the boarder gets in touch! And enjoy the yummy menu again 🙂
I hope the noise form down the road soon ends its awful when pets are scared, I am sure the blanket will help to limit the noise. I hope you will enjoy your meals just as much as yesterday they sound yummy to me. Enjoy the rest of your day.😊
I missed yesterday as I had a terrible night's sleep on Sunday. All my fault as I was faffing with the heating so I could dry some of Youngest's clothes before she went back to Uni digs yesterday. I clearly did something wrong as I woke up at 3am sweating and convinced I had caught something awful - by 5am I decided to get up and realised it was the house that was boiling, not just me! Then I had a full day of dentist, delivering Y back to Uni digs and then a meeting. Food was okay on the whole apart from a Danish apple tart with Madagascan custard.
Today I'm more relaxed having slept much better last night:
Start the day: 2 x coffee and a slug of kefir
Breakfast: Vegan facon butty
Dinner: Cauliflower pakoras with raita and salad
Tea: Mushroom pie, mash and lots of veg
Drinks: Tea and kombucha
Snack: Blood orange
Exercise: Workday Refresh - the picture shows a woman in lycra, outdoors, next to an infinity pool - not sure what sort of workday she has but it doesn't match any that I know of. I won't be in lycra!
Afternoon Grigid, that's awful when you wake up sweating cos the heating is on and the house is boiling, I do sympathise. We had a fault with our switch a while back and instead of going on for 1 hour it went on permanently, it took us a couple of days to work it out.
Glad to hear you slept better last night, it really does make such a difference.
Enjoy your meals and good luck with the workday refresh, it doesn't match any workdays I know of either, come to that I definitely wouldn't be in lycra. 🤣
I know I shouldn't laugh but the idea of you waking up convinced you'd caught some terrible disease when it was just a dodgy heating setting is a little bit funny 😆 It sounds like you're having a better start to the day already if you slept well! Your mushroom pie later sounds really tasty! Have a great day, I hope your jaw isn't so relaxed you can't chew 😂
Hi Grigid, I am glad that you had a better nights sleep last night. I bet you miss your daughter when she goes back to Uni at least for a few day😊Your meals sound good so enjoy and have a lovely day.😊
Yes, it's so lovely to have them home, even for a couple of days. I guess I'm lucky in that at least one of my girls is nearby - although now it's Easter hols her and her partner are off doing lots with his son.
Youngest only comes back for a few days at a time as she has a job where she goes to Uni and works as much as she can to save up so she has more choices once she finishes. Thank goodness for social media - I only used to ring my mum every couple of weeks or so
Hi babss and fellow diarists. This morning I had my usual swim at my normal pool which was very busy compared to where I went yesterday we still don't have a closure date yet they just keep saying after Easter. After a trip into town we took the dogs for a walk but nothing else planned for the day. My menu is:
B. Strawberries and yogurt.
L. 4 x Ryvita with Smoked Salmon Pate.
D. Will be trying a recipe I got off Diet Dr for a pizza with the base made from eggs and mozzarella cheese not sure how this will turn out it may even end up as an omelette. Enjoy the rest of your day everyone.😊xx
Good morning! I got some more sorting done yesterday and we hooked up the gray water waste hose to direct it away from the caravan. We are on well water and so gray water (from sinks and shower) is allowed to drain into the system.
It's a much nicer day than predicted so I'm going to start some cold weather seeds this morning: radishes, lettuce, carrots, etc.
It'll be nice to get some gardening done, even though it's still too early for many things.
My plans today:
Breakfast: Greek yogurt with nuts, and a mandarin orange.
Lunch: soup and crackers.
Supper: not sure. I might cook some chicken thighs. I haven't really decided, yet. I'll have salad with whatever I decide upon.
Glad you got the gray water sorted! Good luck with the gardening (I know what you mean about wanting to do more but it being too early!), and enjoy that menu.
It’s been a busy but productive few days, have managed to get some things at work sorted that have been hanging around for a while so very pleased about that.
Food wise I stuck to plan for meals but ended up eating some cheesecake brought in by a colleague for someone’s birthday. I kept the portion small but it was very delicious 😋
My plans for tomorrow:
Lunch-salad with leftover roast beef and chicken with coleslaw. Nectarines
Good morning fellow diarists and thanks babss for getting us to Wednesday.
Today we are going to the zoo with youngest daughter and grandson, it's a beautiful sunny day, but rain is forecast, so we're hoping it's not too wet. This afternoon is supposed to be better, so keeping our 🤞. We are taking a picnic as there are places under cover to eat your own food and stopping to have dinner on the way home.
We probably won't be back in time to reply before changeover so apologies now.
L- picnic, I have packed salad and mainly foods that fit in my plan
D- eating out will try to choose wisely
Exercise- dog walk first thing, already done and lots of walking at the zoo
Hi everyone and a special thanks to babss for being our lovely host, especially when the forum seems to be suffering from a few glitches (like the reply button taking you to a random spot in the thread).
I have a clearish day today and will use it wisely - that is, some relaxing, but not wasting the whole day languishing on the sofa.
Plans:
Start the day: 2 x coffee and a slug of kefir
Brunch: Vegan facon (last of what I got in for Youngest), mushrooms, fresh tomatoes and avocado on sourdough toast, with a blob of sour cream. Sumac instead of salt and pepper.
Tea: Sweet potato & lentil loaf with veg. Now you may have heard me berate the sweet potato (not a potato!!!), but my neighbour gave me some veg before going away and there it was, nestling innocently with the broccoli. So, instead of chucking it to the worms in my compost heap, I'm going full on Tank_EG and facing my vegetable demons. I'll report back tomorrow - if I survive.
Drinks: Tea and kombucha
Snack: Strawberries
Exercise: "Find your groove dance cardio with Jana"
Mindfulness: "A fresh start"
Wednesday Me Time: a lovely foot soak
Plan: Vegetarian calorie deficit
Enjoy your day everyone.
PS if any glitches are bothering you, you can report them by using the menu button, go to "Get help using this site" and then click "ask". If the IT people are aware that the problems aren't isolated, they might do more to sort them out.
Yeah, the site has been doing weird things lately, hasn't it? I keep struggling to get it to scroll down properly, too, so good to know about the reporting tool. Enjoy that useful but relaxing day! Lovely looking menu, and hope the sweet potato surprises you.
Stick a fork in me, I'm done... The universe seems to be piling it on this week for me. Last night, I emailed the bunny boarder again for an update, and they came back to say they made a mistake and my booking somehow didn't end up in the calendar, so now someone else has the spot, leaving me scrambling. I couldn't really get mad since they were very apologetic, clearly felt terrible, and even found somewhere else that had an opening, but it was very upsetting for me. Their suggestion, though, was a 45 minute drive away, and I don't have a car, so I've instead booked in with a lady I've used before. I don't really like her set-ups, but it's only for a week, and at least the buns are familiar with the place. I still have to have someone drive me, but it's only 25 minutes each way. She's cheaper, as well, but I have to bring my own bunny food, and due to her work schedule, I'll need to drop them off a day earlier, which is also a little upsetting.
Anyway, today I'm wfh. I feel like I really should go in to take care of something, but I just don't have any more mental energy and I need to bake a cake for my project manager who is leaving me. She's been part time with us and part time with her old job, but that was proving too much so she's going back to her old job temporarily to finish off some projects, then plans to come back to us (please let that actually happen!!!). So the cake is a combination 'sorry you're leaving' and a bribe to come back. 😂 I may use some of the batter, too, to make a cupcake or two for myself for Easter. Food for today is expected to be:
Breakfast: Egg, buttered sourdough crumpet, tea with milk, water
Lunch: Fancy salad (chicken poppers variety), an apple, water, maybe a matcha latte
Dinner: Rosemary gnocchi with a mushroom and garlic white sauce, I'll try to do a veg with it but the last couple of nights I've gotten to dinner and was like 'nah'..., frozen fruit smoothie, water
Snacks: Coffee/tea with milk
Exercise: Run day (it's cold, though, and I'm really tired already, so it may be a short one), need to pop to the pharmacy, too.
I hope you manage to get out for a run,it sounds like you could do with those endorphins!
The positives are - the buns know the lady who’ll be looking after them, and your project manager will love your bribe so much that she’ll rush back asap!
Try and get a bit of TLC into your day, and enjoy your menu (loving the sound of your gnocchi)
Thanks! I did manage a short, but intense run, followed by a nice shower, so I do feel a bit better, but a little extra TLC in my day would probably help, too. Truthfully, I'm not doing a whole lot of actual work today since I know it actually works a lot better if I take the time to get my head back in the game before diving in again, and there's not really anything that is particularly urgent right now.
Happy Wednesday, everyone! After a truly delightful day yesterday we are back to rain, rain and more rain. Oh, well, I've got plenty to do inside.
I got some radishes planted yesterday and hauled my hydrangea bush to the spot it will be planted in the front yard. Poor thing has spent the last few years in pots as I didn't want to leave it when I moved.
Today will be spent changing sheets, vacuuming, and dusting.
My plans today:
Breakfast: eggs and a slice of toast, with some grapes.
Lunch: some of the soup I made on Monday, a small handful of nuts.
Supper: turkey sausage with peppers and potatoes, I think.
