Need to loose weight : Backache... - Weight Loss Support
Need to loose weight
Give up sugar & everything with sugar in it. It will change your life.
Hi Nutsaboutpandas
Welcome to the best weight loss forum there is!
TeamAdmin will give you the official welcome info very soon I am sure..
In between time have a good lookie around at the posts and topics, challenges and pinned posts.
The best advice I could give is to sit and learn all you can about what eating plan would suit you best and then plan your meals in harmony with your choice. Prepare your menus for the week and your shopping list then commit to it by joining in the "Daily diary" each day.. it seriously changed the way I was losing weight.
There are many eating plans to choose from, personally I benefited from the low carb / high fat eating programme, but we are all free to chose our routes.. and also free to change direction whenever we choose to!
Wishing you success with your choices..
Cheering you on 🎉🎉🎉

I know how u feel I hve put on four stone n can’t lose it I need help
Welcome to the group Nutsaboutpandas. I too am a big girl, slowly getting a bit smaller. You will find a lot of different diet routines on here- none of them are a magic fix and none of them won't work. There is just 1 rule, you have to eat less calories than you use up. It does not matter if you actively count them (as I do) or a point system, or low carbs high fat or whatever.
It's not a quick fix so you got to make sure that whatever plan you chose does not make you misarable. if you love toast in the morning then a plan which says no bread may not be a good idea. For me I would die if I had to totally give up choccy, so I have a choccy fix factored in.
Good luck in your journey- and feel free to join in conversations
I thought I would die unless I ate crisps & chocolate. And here we are. No junk or sugar since new year & down a dress size in that time. Strangely cold turkey was much easier than continuing to put a few twigs on the fire each day...
Yes, I agree- or at least I also agree with astidog too, in that if I say I can never have something again I just desperately want it, so I do have sugar in up to 3 glasses of wine per week and one cake per fortnight! Last week I didn’t have the wine and didn’t miss it - I just like to plan it in for a special occasion. I’m similar to you in that having something sweet every day is disastrous for me, just sets me up to want more - and I’d prefer to have the calories in food that does me some good.
Having had no sugar for 6 weeks I am slightly afraid of how ill I will feel. I cut sugar 5 years ago for a few months, had a treat cake & felt like I’d swallowed a date rape drug, my vision went blurry, I was swaying & confused. It’s a huge incentive to keep off the sweet stuff now - along with sliding into my jeans of course...
Wow! I guess I do find it quite intense when I have my fortnightly cake but not that intense! Maybe because I am having plenty of other carbs.
I have spent THIRTY YEARS struggling with my weight & my appetite. I don’t want to ruin the rest of my adult life - for the sake of the lie that we ‘need’ a treat or we will be ‘deprived’. And dear me, if we feel ‘deprived’, the world will end, (I am convinced this message comes directly from Weigh Watchers who had their little bars of sweet junk to peddle.) Having given up sugar completely, I have as much interest in a cake counter as a display of power drills. It has no interest for me at all. Obviously everyone does things differently & responds differently, both emotionally & physically of course....
V good point about the Weight Watcher bars. I guess part of my brain must still be hung up on not being deprived though. Find it interesting that when I’ve done fully dry months I’ve thought longingly about alcohol every day - and now I’ve allowed myself 3 glasses per week I’ve gone over a week without touching the stuff and forgotten all about it. Cake counters not for me either, it’s baking that’s my thing...am as interested in it as some blokes are in power drills...
Ah yes. Baking. My son’s birthday party with vats of home made cake is coming up. Not quite sure how I will manage that.
I have not given up alcohol... I had a year of not drinking at all as i was warned it disagreed with medication. I don’t drink much - maybe five units a week, but I would miss that a lot.
Welcome,
I wish you fair travel on your weightloss journey, but I really want to say - I love your username!
Hi Nuts, welcome to our lovely group. I discovered this site a few weeks ago and it did take me a little while to find my way around but you will get there. The first step I took was to cut out all junk and processed food and get moving a little. I got an app on my phone called walking for weight loss and it starts you off really gently with 10-12 minutes. I had to prize myself off the sofa and make myself do it but In a few weeks I’m now up to an hour and I really look forward to doing it. You will get lots of encouragement and advice from these lovely people and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Good luck! 😊
Hi, nutsaboutpandas. It must be hard with sciatica and back pain. Try the NHS plan and use the BMI calculator as a starting point. If you have a lot to lose, then some changes should have a positive effect. I know from past experience that walking, standing and sitting can all hurt our backs. However, not moving means we can seize up.
Even though I have a fitbit, if I am not well (the last three days with a cold, cough and sore throat and the awful weather conditions,) I haven't been out walking, so I try to move at regular intervals, moving whilst the TV ads are on, walking around my home. It all adds up. Good luck on your journey. You will get lots of support on here.
Thanks so much everyone , tomorrow I’m hoping to wake up with a positive head on and make my first meal plan. I know what I need to do it’s juts the first steps in doing it that’s hard. I have lost Weight before using shakes ect but I had a very small diet restrict on myself so it consisted of a shake n banana for breakfast and dinner , cucumber and carrot sticks or fruit for snacks in between meals and chicken , brown rice , a bag on mixed veg and watery gravy for tea ,‘plus lots of water and 40 mins of exercise dvd a night .. no wonder I lost weight . But I piled it all back on and more and I was 9.7 stone in 2014 and now weigh 16 stone 2. So over the past 6 years I have slowly gained and gained and now I’m so unhappy about it. I don’t want to be 9.7 stone coz it took so much work. I want to be a comfortable weight where I’m not struggling with back pain ect .. around 12/ 13 stone will do me I think to start with. Hope everyone else is finding their journey good so far
Don’t be afraid of fat. Sounds completely against anything we’ve heard over the years, but it fills us up, does not cause blood sugar spikes & cravings, & our bodies can relax into believing there’s enough food.
Hiya, the best bit of advice I can offer you is to pimp the food you like to eat to a healthy version.
If you start forcing yourself to eat salad all the time for example and it’s not what you like to eat you will fail pretty quick.
If you look at one of my menus it looks like I eat a lot of junk like burgers and chips. But by making it all with the right ingredients and doing it myself I know exactly what I’m eating.
Small swaps from say normal mince to lean mince can go a long way.
I’ve also learn if you want a dish and need help to a healthy version, mr google is a great resource!
I have currently lost 6.5 stone and haven’t bought one lettuce in over 6 months and I still eat a little chocolate.
Good luck xxx

If you have the time take a lookie at dietdoctor.com really tasty meal plans that suit most folks and helpful information as to why it works.. it helped me x
Also no adverts and no products to buy!!
Willpower & mindset x
If you don't buy it you won't have it in the cupboard to eat or tempt you. Good luck.
Try an exercise bike. I have sciatica, and it the only cardio I can do without pain. Don't do too much, too soon, like me. Lost three stone and then had stroke. Good luck.
By asking the question and making the decision, you have taken the biggest step.
Ideally, get help. Whether you prefer calorie counting or LCHF, it's all in the right direction.
The things had have made most difference to me are:
Don't eat it if it has more than 5g sugar / 100g.
Significantly reduce the carbs (rice, potato, pasta, bread)
Watch your portion size.
Cut out fruit juices.
Identify health veggies you do like.
Walk 5,000 steps each day
Hello Dear Nutsaboutpandas,
I lost weight by dropping the white items from my menu: Anything made with milk, flour, sugar and fat. Practically, I had to make a choice between enjoying delicious food or nice dresses and health and I choose the latter.
You achieved the hard part by deciding to lose weight. Congratulations and good luck!
Hi Nutsaboutpandas , welcome.
If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.
Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:

Hi and welcome I decided needed to loose weight to help my back and knees. After having both shoulders operated on and hearing how so many people had troubles with knee ops wanted to stave that off for as long as possible.
Take it nice and slow and you will get there, slow and steady wins the race. Start by cutting down on sugar and treats and make your meals from scratch. The NHS 12 week plan is a good place to start and gradually introduces you to exercise, check your personal allowance on BMI calculator though and don't go by generic amount they set. Also join in a weigh day we Wednesday wobble warriors very supportive as are all others I'm sure. Good luck
If you cut out sugar it will change your life it’s in so much salad dressings packaged foods you Wouldn’t expect. Also watching those carbs.
