me too! I started a 10k running programme last night. I have run 5k before, but never made it to 10, and as I haven't been running regularly for a while I've started a fairly gentle programme to get me there. I really enjoyed my first run last night - I found the last couple of minutes hard going, but I was pleased to make it!

Don't push yourself too hard in the beginning, your stamina will naturally increase. Weight loss is speeded by intervals of brisk walking mixed with running. Good luck :o)

Reverse periodisation is the buzz...this is a backward menstrual cycle...er only joking.

Being serious, I'd say two things:

1) ask yourself why 10k is better than 5

2) great that you did 5k first...maybe you could aim to do 5k faster rather than 10k slower..as it will naturally be at first.

Reverse periodisation means going for speed before distance. If you start off running marathons, you'll be slow. It's not a great way to spend your time if you want to lose weight effectively, but it's good if you want to feel you've achieved something by running a long way. Also, some folk ain't built for speed so distance is a valid challenge.

Just ask the questions first I'd say. OK?
