First time on this board. I need to loose weight my BMI says I am obese. I'm currently 13 stone at 5 foot 3 inches! I am beginning to eat more healthy, I have a fit bit and have started the gym. Anyone got any motivational tips for me? Thanks!

Hello KirstyC90 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum. Well done on making changes to your diet and also using your Fitbit 😊
Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask ☺
Thank you for your reply with all of the info to get me started! I have just downloaded the NHS 12 week help but I didn't know about BMI and calories, so thank you for that! I have joined slimming world many times but I just can't stick to it! I will be on here regularly. I do want to look better, but it will also help me in terms of fertility as it has been hard to conceive. I have been on the other forum about that and spoken to a fertility doctor who said that loosing the weight will increase my chances even with out treatment. So this has made me feel that I want to do it even more. Its just the amount I need to loose that makes me feel like it's going to be impossible! X
Hi KirstyC90 You can reach your goals, and you will with your motivation kept in front of you and a healthier lifestyle and eating habits to last a lifetime, don't think of this as a diet... but a life style change.
To give you some true life encouragement see the post:
It is truely awesome, I am sure EllaMidlands wont mind me using her as a great example... But there are many many more on here.
Everyone who has a "maintainers" badge has reached their goals. Take a look at their stories in posts.. tap or click on any blue name and you will be on their homepage, there you can look at posts past and present and the bottom of the page shows when they joined the forum.
We are all on here with the same goal to loose weight and be encouraging and encouraged.. So welcome to the forum..
Thank you Is there anywhere online I can put in my start weight/ calories and daily exercise ect? I have the activity diary on NHS but I don't have a printer so it would be great to do something on the computer, like my fit bit it means I can check it each day x
I like many also use my fitness pal app, you can record your food diary which works out your calories for each food and you can adjust the amount by the servings setting.. I only use the free version as I don't want a subscription each month!! It works really well, you can also change the calorie value you need each day as mfp is always low compared the the healthier allowance on the NHS BMI checker.
I started the same weight as you, but one inch shorter! I am losing weight each week, and can only really recommend making sure that you are true to yourself with counting your calories. It really does make you think, and make healthier choices. Then within a few weeks you will be closer to 12 stone..
Most importantly keep popping on here for a chat and support, the advice is invaluable.
We are all in this together and will support you all the way..
Thank you! And you are right it has definitely made me think about how much I am eating. I have been on slimming world before but I find it really hard to keep track of things like that! I am really taking it seriously though now as I really would like to conceive this year and we have been struggling for three years. I need to loose it to get any help and obviously be a healthy mother to my baby!
