I had a blood test last year in August and when the results came back from the lab they showed that my bnp level is extremely high. I asked the GP exactly how high to be told that the level is 1221 and she'd expect to see that level in an 87 year old woman, I'm 47 years old. She then went on to refer me to a heart failure consultant as an urgent matter and also had a test arranged to see if it was to do with my breathing as I am asthmatic. The results of that test showed that it is nothing to do with my lungs and also when she checked other things that can affect your bnp levels they were all fine too. I'm still waiting for the 'Urgent' appointment with the heart consultant nearly 7 months later, and although I have spoken to my Dr's surgery about this and they said they would look into it and scurry the heart failure clinic on into getting me an appointment ASAP I'm still waiting. I feel as though I've been put on a back burner for an appointment because of the health problems I already deal with daily and feel like giving up on getting to see someone before something serious happens. I'm sorry for the long post and the griping about still waiting but needed to get it off my mind

Still waiting
There is a BHF forum on here. It might be worth posting on that. They might be able to give you some support. I don't what bnp level is but if it is to do with your weight try reviewing what you eat. I had high BP and reduced it to normal by following a LCHF way of eating. Try reducing carbs and cut out all white carbs, bread, pasta, rice and potatoes. Also cut out junk food and sugary stuff and focus on healthy fresh food and lots of veg and healthy fats eg. Cheese, full fat yoghurt, cream. I don't know if this will help your problem but it will help you lose weight. Sounds like you need to keep chasing the GP. Good luck.
Hello, Feeling_Totally_Fat, and welcome to the weight loss forum
I agree with Gizmocat : check out the British Heart Foundation forum as I'm sure you'll find them very supportive and better informed about that whole area than most members here.
A good way to start getting involved with the forum is by joining a weekly weigh in on the day of your choice, and using the Daily Diary to share your meal plans. You'll find them - plus the Welcome Newbies post which explains how the forum works - in our Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...
I hope you'll become an active member of the forum - it can really pay off for you
I am sorry to hear that. Go back to your Gp and explain how you feel. Try that.
Hi there, I'm sorry that your feeling so let down by the system and it does seem an excessively long time to wait for an Urgent appointment. I know they say the NHS is under strai but it sounds more like an administrative error to me. Definitely chase this up and don't take No for an answer. Sometimes we can be too ready and willing to just politely say OK but perhaps we need to take a leaf out of the rather more troublesome, loudmouthed people who make such a fuss that they get themselves noticed. This can still be done with manners. Good luck on that front 👍 As far as the weight loss side of things goes then you are certainly in the right place here. You'll find excellent information, great support and no end of chat 😉😁
Sorry to hear about the problems you are having. If you’ve already asked your GP to chase the appointment and still haven’t heard, and if you know which hospital you’ve been referred to, I’d contact their PALS (patient advice and liaison service) This is the kind of query they deal with all the time and can chase it up for you. Good luck
try ringing the hospital direct and speak to consultants secretary if know his name and or PALS, 7 months is far too long to wait. i had all my heart investigations and consultation within 3 months. not sure what the BNP test is but check out british heart foundation they should be able to advise if dieting will help it, but can only help with your general health. . as for weight loss side in right place here for support and even more so when join in a weigh day. good luck
