Help! I’m struggling with my weight

Norbs profile image

I’m 45 years old and a bit of a yo-yo dieter but always managed to lose if I stay focused. In the last 6 months I’ve had a total hysterectomy and am heavier than I’ve ever been. It’s getting me down and I need some help and advice that will help me as I’m struggling to stay motivated and lose the extra weight as I feel it’s harder than ever. Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome, Norbs :)

I was a yoyo dieter for over 40 years and went from the upper end of healthy BMI, to morbidly obese. Then the penny dropped and I realised that dieting doesn't work, especially when restricting calories and following a high carb, low fat way of eating. I switched to low carb high fat and the weight dropped off. That way of eating was tasty and sustainable and I've been able to maintain the weight loss. Have a look at these for further explanation healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and phcuk.org/wp-content/upload... There's also a forum for others that have done the same healthunlocked.com/lchf-diet

Follow this link to our chat thread and a list of all the activities we run. We've found active participation to be key to success, especially with our weigh-ins and Daily Diary.

Hi Norbs,

It's not me but my mam had a full hysterectomy and went through the same sort of struggles. She found she enjoyed walking so would make an effort to walk to the shops or on nice days just go out for a walk and she enjoyed the fresh air and it helped with her weight. Although she was against HRT to start with, she is now on a low dosage and is managing her weight a lot better than without it.

There is a lot of support on here too, which I always find helps me to stay on track. Keep a food diary, get your 5 a day and be conscious of fibre and portion sizes.

I wish you all the best in your journey,

Kim

Hi, I had a full hysterectomy in 1988 and on hrt. Put loads of weight on and then 3years decided enough. I cut pasta, spuds, bread, biscuits and rice out of my diet. Ate more veg (carrots, aubergine, peppers, mushrooms, peas, sweetcorn, green beans, mange tout, asparagus and tomatoes). Mince is extra lean, I do chicken, mince, veg meals alternative days. Up my exercise even joined a gym. It is still a battle to lose my stomach area but I feel so much better.

Give it a try.

Keep us updated.
