Desparate to lose weight

Hi all. Ive never used these kind of forum sites before. Apologies if i do something wrong.

Anyhows. Following a long 3 yrs of being in and out of hospital for one op or another ive been given the go ahead to start gentle exercise. Given that i have moderate to severe OA, easier said than done.

Im told by my family i dont need to lose weight but to feel better in myself i feel i must. I want to free myself of about 2stone. Any loss will be a bonus. I yo yo up and down and struggle to stay motivated. I have started regular gentle gym exercise so have begun the path. I now dont want to deviate or fall too far from the path.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Hi and welcome. Family members are not always the best judges of weight😊, but it could be that they are right... did you check out the BMI calculator to find your healthy BMI range?

Hello Myflossy and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes

Anna

Hi and welcome, I too have health issues, was also looking to lose 2 stone, i'm a catholic, so I took advantage of Lent to start my period of abstenance and control of myself and begin by weighing myself with the help of my carer as I can't really manage even that myself but I also recorded my weight in the ap My fitness pal on this I put in my goal weight which was my wedding weight which is this year 9 years ago only two years before my stroke, the stroke is what has made it more difficult in life generally, but in dieting makes me wholly reliant on others to prepare my food for me track everything on my fitness pal can't praise that enough, so i'm not at my wedding weight but since March 1st I've lost 12lb and that's not been that difficult it sounds like you are motivated, so no reason you can't do it to!, i'm not able to do exercise I've just been doing my normal shuffling around I try to walk up and down stairs at least once a day as that helps i'm sure, just need the right motivation, which for me this time is that I look odd enough having a walking stick and shuffling so why not be a slim shuffling disabled person, got to be easier for me last time motivation was getting married,

Good luck with your weight loss journey. Do check the charts just to be sure of how much you think you need to lose but I can understand that with OA the less you are carrying around the easier it will feel. On the other hand you don't want to set yourself up with other problems. The forum is great and you'll get lots of support from a wonderful group of folk 😊
