Motivation?

Hi all.

I am struggling to find the motivation to exercise. I want to but it's just finding the 'energy' and the motivation.

Did loads over the weekend but just don't have that enthusiasm today. Nor have I on a few days last week.

Anyone got any tips?

Thanks

Hi!

I feel you really! I am the same, I am not a big fan of exercising. I am only at the beginning of my weight loss journey and I decided, in order to keep motivated to only do things I like. So for example, I like swimming and I am planning to go whenever I can or just go to classes at my gym like zumba or pilates. I really like zumba actually - I do not think of it as a workout but more like a chance to have fun and burn calories as a bonus. Try a few things and see what you like best then stick to it. If you enjoy it then you will actually look forward to it. I find gym boring but classes are fun as they make you feel part of a community (exactly like in this forum). Also, maybe try to find a friend to come with you & motivate each other.

Good luck! :)

Sounds like you're just more motivated at some times than at others? Maybe focus on what does motivate you and try to really make use of that? E.g. I'm really motivated by certain albums on my ipod, by having my running kit out ready, and by having a colourful chart to fill in. Maybe a nice treat after exercise (healthy) would work too, e.g if I run in the morning I treat myself to some eggs or delicious banana porridge afterwards. Putting a jacket potato in the oven while you go out for an evening walk can be nice too. Just keep looking for all the little things that motivate you :)

Hello again Little-Hobbit 😊

Firstly, losing weight is more about what you eat than how much you exercise, so by tackling that you have made good start 😊

Exercise doesn't have to involve hours getting sweaty in a gym, current advice suggests regular short bursts are beneficial 😊 (I started out doing 2x10 minute sessions) but simple things like parking the car further away in the car park, taking the stairs instead of a lift, etc all help.

With regards to more organised exercise this needs to be something you enjoy, either a social activity like a class, or just commit to 10 minutes before breakfast or whilst your tea cooks 😊 Walking is excellent, (there are some great you-tube videos) dancing also fun, especially if you like music. I find one trick is don't think about it, I just crawl into my leggings first thing in the morning and just do it!! 😊

Good luck 😊

Quite often the energy will appear once you get started - it's getting over that initial inertia that is difficult. Try keeping a card in your pocket with all your reasons for losing weight written on it and read it several times a day to keep you motivated.

Maybe the exercise you are doing bores you. You can incorporate extra exercise into your life in many ways. Remember that any exercise is better than none, so even little things help. park your car at the furthest distance, get off the lift the floor below and walk a flight of stairs, Play a lively track and dance around the kitchen, skip around like a child, bounce up and down on your heels while washing up, do some arm exercises with tin cans while watching the tv...............
