Lacking motivation

Good morning everyone. I haven’t been around here for a long time but have finally made it back as I know everyone is supportive here.

I have had a really bumpy road so far and I have just lost all my motivation. When I try and exercise my back hurts, which makes me lazy and not want to exercise, but since I now work from home it means I don’t walk around much and that’s not good for my weight or health.

as for what I eat, I try and stick to healthier foods but I do have moments of weakness where I just crave all the sugar. I try not to have sweet things in the house but that doesn’t always work out.

so I came back here to get some motivation as I know things need to change and that for my health at least I need to lose the weight.

Hi SugarPopple, and welcome back to Weight Loss Support,

The ethos hasn't changed around here, there are still a number of very supportive groups, such as the Daily Diary and the Weigh In. Some things have changed though, so I've added a link to all the current posts we have on the go.

There are lots of us who have been in a similar position to you, and our approaches to weight loss are all slightly different, so I'm sure you'll find something that will help, and I'm sure others will get inspiration from you!

Good luck!

I hear you and the echoes of myself. I had such good intentions at Xmas time, but like yourself I've lost all motivation. I've got a lot going on right now but I'm going to put myself at the top of my to do list and focus on what I want and need from this week onwards. I'm going to to also what @AL39659 suggests and build up my walking especially indoors if the weather isn't great. We can do this! Keep going x

Thanks for all the support, they are all great ideas. I will start small and work my way up and have a read of the link suggested to get up to speed with what has changed since I was here last. It's good to read that I am not the only one who feels like this and that we can change.

I am the same and pressing the restart button and focusing on the day not the future hopefully I won't then get tempted as I won't be saying oh go on it won't matter tomorrow's another day.... Good luck to both of us... Welcome 🙂

Hi SugarPopple I am in the same boat - but your post popped - or poppled? - up in my email so I am going to come back; don't know if it's motivation or determimation I need more! Mine is a history of well meaning followed by collapses. But people on here are great and supportive; I see there's another post about a four week challenge from Monday 18 - sounds good.

Great news SugarPopple and Ceebee4! :)

Why not strike while the iron is hot and log your stats on the weigh-in and post your meal plans on the Daily Diary?

Looking forward to seeing you both in the Spring Challenge too :)

Onwards and downwards! :)

ok, I'll post on my old day - Thursday, moreless and thank you; I seem to be blocked from replying to your Spring Challenge post though, but early days.

Count me in! I need to find my motivation again although I braved the scales this morning and was pleasantly surprised so that has given me a boost. I have has a busy week work wise which has limited my mindless snacking, now just need to apply the same mindset once I get home. Happy Friday 😀

I hear you with the challenges around pain and motivation this is common when adapting to a new work-from-home lifestyle. I always say that listening to our body is crucial, so if exercise causes pain, it might be worth exploring gentler forms of movement that you enjoy and that feel good, such as stretching, yoga, or even short walks, tailored to your comfort level.

Cravings, especially for sugar, can be tough. There can actually be a lot of emotional reasons for urges and cravings do you do any work around this at all?

Coming back here for motivation is a great move of course but it comes from within and starts with our thoughts. Clear why's and reasons are helpful especially when progress isn't always linear, and every small step counts and is work celebrating.

For me motivation is built in small tiny easy doable actions so ask yourself everyday, what's one small step you feel ready to take today. Good luck on your journey.

Thanks for your reply. I have gone to therapy to help, it is emotional eating or boredom and I am trying my best to help curb that and recognise am I actually hungry or do I maybe want to have a drink of water/coffee to see if maybe I was thirsty or am I feeling down etc. It is something I need to work on.

A definite why it to get healthy, as I am getting older my body is starting to shout at me in different areas that never used to be a problem and I am getting worried that if I continue like this it will just get worse and I don't want that to happen, so I need to get my head on straight and do the right thing for my body.

This site was very helpful last time round so I am looking forward to getting involved again :) Like you said, baby steps, one at a time, and I will get there.

Hi and welcome. Its not easy but its worth it. Firstly, do you have a medical problem with your back, because if so perhaps speak with your medical team about suitable exercise. Putting that aside for a moment, you sound very lacklustre about the whole weighloss thing ( just in the tone of your post), so I would suggest you get yourself a piece of paper and write down all the reasons you want to lose weight, what benefits will it bring to you, how much do you want to lose -if its a lot maybe break it down, half a stone for example. Then think about a proper strategy -low carb works for me but calorie counting is popular. Whatever you decide get yourself organised with a food plan, shopping list etc. Exercise wise - don’t do anything to the point where it hurts, build up gradually but get yourself some decent footwear thats suitable for what you’re going to do. I sound like a bossy boots know-it-all but if you treat it like a job that needs doing at the beginning you’ll get into a good groove and that should help a lot. Everyone has bad days, lazy days ( I skipped the gym this morning) but with practise the good days will outnumber the bad days, and even a little bit of success will motivate you. Onward and downward x
