New thyroid blood tests....not again!!😡

Hi everyone ❤️

Firstly I just want to say how fantastic my gps surgery is.....for botching yet another set of thyroid bloods up...😡

It's taken me 4wks to aquire these thyroid bloods , because both gps I'd spoken to didn't send the booking across to my file for the receptionist to book me in for bloods😡

I can not aquire my next ndt prescription without a new set of thyroid bloods.

So finally I get the appointment to take FULL thyroid blood panel..which is T4, T3, TSH...

as always i ask the nurse.." what are you taking today "

" TSH, T4, T3' calcium and cholesterol ( this as been requested as my cholesterol was 9.4)

I go to pick the results up yesterday ....scanning the page I see TSH...at [0.58]...last TSH on January 21st was...3.62...so a marked improvement there.

But....where's the T4, T3???? 😡

How the hell can I determine if my T3 and T4 are in range [ I'm on combination therapy 🤦‍♀️]

So upshot....I've to go back tomorrow to have them done again, we'll done nhs on wasting more money....honestly I could scream 😫.

So on the page I see the cholesterol results....hum! Interesting:

So my cholesterol results on January 21st were.

Serum cholesterol..9.2...range..2.50...6.50]...marked as !

Serum HDL. Cholesterol level..2..range..1.20..2.60]

Se non HDL cholesterol level..7.2..range..non

Serum triglycerides ..1.40..range..0.40..4.50]

Serum LDL cholesterol level..6.6...range..1.00...4.00]..marked as !

Serum cholesterol/HDL ratio..4.6...range <5

-----------------------

Cholesterol taking on March 27th 2025

Serum cholesterol...6.1.... in range

Serum HDL cholesterol level...1.7,,,in range

Se non HDL cholesterol level...4.4...in range

Serum triglycerides 1.5...in range

Serum LDL cholesterol level...3.7...in range

Serum cholesterol/ HDL ratio 3.6...in range

Non of my cholesterol levels have been flagged up in the March blood test all appearto be in range.

As some members will know I was in hospital recently for a suspected stroke [ it wasn't a stroke but my inner ear problem] ...but my cholesterol flagged up on there blood test as 9.4, the doc put me on statins 🤦‍♀️ which I definitely don't want to take, but on leaving the hospital I was given a box of Atorvastatin 40mg one to be taken daily.

I was given these tablets on 21/3/25 so I started them the next day 22/3/25....so I've taken 40mg for around 13 days, would they work this fast in lowering my cholesterol levels?

birkie I took no more than two weeks worth of T3 and it reduced my cholesterol from 8.9 to 5.7. That’s caused a few raised eyebrows, which I can do nothing about at the moment. I have had my arm twisted post heart surgery to take statins. I made a big song and dance about it and they have given me an ‘expensive’ alternative statin.

Cholesterol levels do change spontaneously too. Mine has been 9.9 at one point.

I think the statin you have been given is one of the ‘cheap’ ones which are not advised for anyone with problems. Not that I agree any are actually good for you in the first place. However I have decided to go along to get along at the moment.

Your NDT will have reduced your cholesterol probably because it’s got some T3 in it.

Hi Tistapple

I've been on ndt since July last year, started at 1/2 a grain, and are now up to 1 and 1/2 grains.

My TSH had changed since my last bloods done in January it was 3.62...now the one I've just had done is 0.85...so that a good change, but I really need to see my T3...

My cholesterol levels have been...9.2..in January..9.4 in hospital on March 21st..now March 27th its 6.1..

I'm waiting for my surgery to contact me as the report from the hospital says ..refer to lipid clinic🤷‍♀️.

I don't want to stay on statins and would rather see if my ndt lowers it.

I started drinking benecol around 2wks ago, but don't actually know if they do what they say on the tin....can lower cholesterol 🤔
