blood results today

These came through today. Tests were Thursday 7/11. 8.30am. Water only before test. T4 taken 23 hours before and T3 taken 15 hours before test.

I take 25mcg T4 Levo and 2 x 10mcg liothyronine per day. I have an intolerance to Levo. First dose was 100mcg and I had suspected heart attack - ischaemic irregularity.

I have been experiencing many of the symptoms of B12 deficiency for past 3 months. I took some high strength Vit B complex since Saturday and peripheral neuropathy in feet and legs is vastly diminished.

serum ferritin 123 (28-200)

serum Vit B12 334 (180-640)

serum folate 9.30 (3- 20)

serum cortisol 391 nmol/L

serum oestradiol 171 pmol/L

FSH 39 (3-13) LABELLED AS HIGH (I have no ovaries so may be why this is high??)

serum LH level 17.9 (4-14) LABELLED AS HIGH

serum prolactin 295 (100-500)

serum FT3 3.9 (3.1-6.8)

serum FT4 7.2 (11-22) LABELLED AS LOW

serum TSH 4.53 (0.3-4.2) LABELLED AS HIGH

sodium 137 (133-146)

serum potassium 3.9 (3.5-5.3)

urea 5.5 (2.5-7.8)

creatinine 67 (45-90)

eGFR/1.7m*2 81 (60-)

AKI warning stage N/A

Do you remember which brands of Levo you tried?

Vencamil is available in more dose sizes now and might be worth a shot as is generally well tolerated, lactose & mannitol free.

Ideally you need a Levo increase.

Hopefully once your B12 & folate level are improved you might find Levo a lot more tolerable.

15hrs is too long a gap between last dose & test for T3. Aim for 8-12hrs delaying last dose the day before test. Your result is a false low.

Are you supplementing vit D + K2 or has it been tested?

It's Teva Levo. I am supplenting Vit D by almost 3000iu a day plus K2 120 mcg a day. Vit D in August was 96.6.

I didn't realise I was presenting a false T3 low. Oh dear!

I'm not sure if Levo increase is possible as I felt ill on 50mcg. Dreadfully ill on 100mcg. Plus immediately had pressure and ringing in ears which has not abated. Liothyronine also precipitated ear pressure and ringing. I won't cope with it any louder!!

Thank you for the quick reply.

The most likely reason you didnt tolerate 100mcgs Levo was it was too much too soon. Most people do much better starting at around 50mcgs and working up slowly. It was too much at the beginning.

It looks like your vitamin levels have been awful right from the start and thats another thing that can cause intolerance of thyroid hormones.

Once your vitamin levels are more optimal and you're taking increases more slowly and gradually then I suspect you will tolerate Levo just fine.

Which B complex have you started? It will take a few months for it to work fully.

You may also need a separate B12 sublingual or spray.

Vencamil Levo might be better than Teva for you. Try a Levo increase of 12.5mcgs if you're worried you might not cope with it.

Vit D was good.

The B complex is just stuff we had in the cupboard on Saturday when I felt desperate with the nerve pain starting to rise up my legs to my torso. Higher Nature high strength B complex. 800%RDA vit B12. This pain and the nerve pain in my feet started to reduce.

I'm seeing GP this morning and will see what they say. If no luck with them, ill order vits myself. Also arranging a call with Endo.

Thank you

NHS vitamins tend to be low dose and inactive ingredients. Not likely GP will prescribe them either, so do go ahead and buy something better than the Higher Nture product which is low dose.

B complex suggestions: Slightly cheaper options with inactive B6:

amazon.co.uk/Liposomal-Soft...

Contains B6 as P5P an active form:

The GP says I've got to talk to Endo as they ordered the tests - so have asked for an appointment and sent a letter. I'll order stuff today:

cytoplan vit B12 sublingual

Do I order a separate methyl folate or get the Thornes basic B complex which has 667mcg of methyl folate? The separate cytoplan methyl folate has 400 mcg.

Thanks for your help - I so appreciate it. It would a journey without a map otherwise!! Brain fog really does not help at all. (I wrote brain god...who knows??) I've got assignments to mark today - won't go well I know🙄
