Hi everyone I’m bluenose 69 and I’m new to this community I’m asking any advice on my blood test results please have had symptoms for a long time don’t seem to be getting anywhere so frustrated and depressed at times.Had a full panel of blood tests privately in February 2023 some were red flagged

MCH 32.1(range 27.31)

Transferrin 21(25-45)

Cholesterol High

B12 active 56 (37.5-188) lower end of normal Medichecks said it would be a good idea to have a MMA test done which I did. 28.3(0-32) said it was ok.

Those were the ones red flagged in February 2023.

Had the same amount done again privately this month 2024 again with Medichecks the following red flagged.

TSH 4.76(0.27-4.2) a year ago it was 2.95 within the same range.

Free T3 - 3.9(3.1-6.8) tracker shows downward trend

T4- 13.6(12-22) tracker shows downward trend

Cholesterol H

MCV 102(81-98) MCV 2023 96.1(80-100)The tracker shows it’s elevated which could be a sign of B12 or folate deficiency as well as possible under active thyroid is this correct please?

Folate 7.17(3.89-26.8) folate 2023 - 15.9(8.23-60.8) range difference

B12 active 60(37.5-150) range difference from 2023 (37.5-188)

Vitamin D 77(50-175 vitamin D 82 (50-250) range difference from 2023

Transferrin 25.7(20-50) Transferrin 2023 - 21(25-45) range difference

Ferritin 86.4(13-150) Ferritin 2023 -21(30-650) range difference

Hope this isn’t to confusing to help me.I went to my GP and showed her the red flag ones and she said I will need to do our own blood tests gave me about four minutes of her time and now I have to wait two weeks for blood tests.

Welcome to the group. If you could complete your profile it helps members understand your thyroid journey so far and be able to advise you better. Click on your image icon to start. Fill out the free text box at the top.

Your latest thyroid test is showing above range TSH. To get diagnosed on the NHS you need 2 TSH results above range (or 1 above 10) 3 months apart.

Be sure to book your NHS blood test for 9am or earlier when TSH is highest. Fast before the test only drinking water. Stop any biotin containing supplements 4-7 days before blood test.

Have you had both types of thyroid antibody tested - TPO & Tg?

I'm getting a bit confused with all the numbers but your ferritin is currently 21? If so it is deficient and hopefully GP will prescribe iron for you.

Vitamin D should be around 100 - 150. Buy one that includes vit K2 to help it go to your bones. Some are available in oil or you can take it with an oily meal for better absorption. Many members like the ‘Better You’ range of mouth sprays that contain both bit D & K2. Use this calculator to work out how much to take to get your level to 100-150.grassrootshealth.net/projec...

Are you vegan or vegetarian?

Its a good sign that your MMA is negative but that does not necessarily discount B12 deficiency as there are a number of tests and none of them definitive.

B12 - do you have symptoms of B12 deficiency? The reference range for B12 is very wide and cut off point too low. theb12society.com/signs-and...

If you do then you should discuss this with your doctor for further tests for Pernicious Anaemia.

If not, then start with a methyl B12 sublingual spray or lozenge for a week, then add a good B complex. Once you run out of the separate B12 just continue with the B complex.

Your folate is on the low side and would benefit from supplementing. There is folate in the B complex.

Slightly cheaper options with inactive B6:

Contains B6 as P5P an active form:

Your ferritin is pretty good then.

We need to know why your B12 is so low. Are you vegan or vegetarian?

You need to either be diagnosed with b12 deficiency or begin a B12 supplement.

9am or earlier is when TSH is highest. It varies throughout the day.

If you cant get in any sooner then leave it for 10.15am but be sure to fast and only drink water before the test.

GP’s are only interested if your B12 is below 200 it’s so frustrating when your reading is 317 with symptoms and they say it’s normal.Once I have these repeat blood tests in a couple of weeks I will start b12 supplements.I know having symptoms is more important than numbers GP just don’t get it thank you for advice.
