my wife Helen had a full NHS blood including T3 & T4 plus a lot of other tests but because she was feeling so poorly (edited by admin) we went for a discounted Medichecks

Medichecks results so far

as follows:

CRP HS 03 Aug 2023 2.16 mg/L (0-3) She has confirmed Hashimotos

FERRITIN 03 Aug 2023 317 ug/L(30 - 650)

FOLATE - SERUM 03 Aug 2023 35.3 nmol/L (8.83 - 60.8)

VITAMIN B12 - ACTIVE 03 Aug 2023 >150 pmol/L (37.5 - 188)

VITAMIN D 03 Aug 2023 52.5 nmol/L (50 - 250)

Total 25(OH) vitamin D < 25 nmol/L is deficient.

Total 25(OH)D of 25-50 nmol/L may be inadequate in some people.

Total 25(OH)D > 50 nmol/L is sufficient in most individuals.

Total Vitamin D level >250 nmol/L - indicates potential for toxicity.

Please note change of reference range 23 Oct 2022

TSH 03 Aug 2023 6.91 mIU/L (0.27 - 4.2)

FREE T3 03 Aug 2023 3.7 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8)

FREE THYROXINE 03 Aug 2023 17.2 pmol/L (12 - 22)

THYROGLOBULIN ANTIBODIES 03 Aug 2023 38.8 kIU/L (0 - 115)

THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES 03 Aug 2023 415 kIU/L (0 - 34)

Unsurprised CRP elevated even tho Normal IVO TPO 10 x Range

Ferritin Mid range a bit odd. Folate under mid range

B12 amazingly well

Vit D grinding along the bottom a bit worrying

TSH No surprise and T3 v low at 0.6 off the bottom worries me

Free T4 mid range strange given low T3

Low Thyroglobin a/b concerning given 10 x TPO max range

Any ideas on these results.

How much levothyroxine is Helen taking

was test done early morning, fasting and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Does she always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

How much vitamin D is she taking

As she has Hashimoto’s is she gluten and/or dairy free

The 75 mcg dose looks like TEVA. She’s started using up some old 100mcg which is by NorthStar. She is heading gluten free, but not totally.

NorthStar (now discontinued) - 50mcg and 100mcg are Accord Levo inside the box

Northstar 25mcg were always Teva, because Accord doesn’t make 25mcg tablets

100mcg brand options

Lactose free

Teva

Vencamil (previously called Aristo) - this is mannitol free too

Others

Mercury Pharma- listed as Advanz on pharmacy database

Accord

What has your doctor suggested you do about Helen's low D? Hopefully an increased thyroxine dose may begin to help but the low D should be addressed too.

She is actually on Healthspan Vit D3 elite every other day. Gp said nothing about that. Also on Selenium. The 75 mcg dose looks like TEVA. She’s started using up some old 100mcg which is by NorthStar. She is heading gluten free, but not totally.

I think her low D levels need addressing as it helps utilise thyroxine and low D can leave you feeling unwell too. The doctor could offer her injections short-term but many are loathe to do so.

Helen’s CRP is significantly raised. This is an inflammatory marker and indicates that a long standing inflammation is present. Additional tests are sometimes done in a diagnostic work up.

I think this is a good starting point for further investigations

I hope Helen feels better soon

Hello helenshubby,

Just to let you know my past experiences. I had a CRP test included with my tests not realising at the time that the massive reaction I had to insect bites would elevate CRP significantly. On another occasion my consultant at the time incl CRP following a cold type virus 2-3 weeks after those symptoms had subsided.

I just mention it because it can possibly impact your wifes results if any such inflammation such as muscular strains or pain, viral, bacterial etc is present.

Vitamin D oral sprays worked better for me as I have chronic malabsorbtion problems with Hashi's and struggle to get the D above 70 (ideal for women to be 80-100 Ibelieve) And to take it 4 hours away from medication.Stomach acid can be low with Hashi's, I found ACV (apple cider vinegar) dessert spoon before or on a meal , or Betaine HCL low dose prior to a main meal, all helps to keep Vits and Mins in optimal for meds to work effectively. All these things help with conversion of T4 -T3, which may help raise her T3 more.

Every best wish, G.
