Wondering if anyone can help please. Over the last few months I have been experiencing increased muscle pain, especially in my legs. Stiffness and pain in my hips which then radiates in my thigh muscles. I have reduced mobility in my left hip. I am due to see orthopaedic end of aug, but in a meantime did some blood test privately and my CK results came elevated
CK 329 (ref range 26-140) result as at 14 Jul
I am seeing a doctor separately for my hormones and she suggested that this may indicate Myositis, which upon researching, it seems it’s an autoimmune condition that causes muscles to become weak, painful and tired.
I am yet to confirm this, but just wanted to ask if anyone else happened to have any info or experience with this?
I also have Hashimoto and was on 100mg thyroxine daily. Following below blood test results taken on 14 Jul, I am now on 125mg daily.
TSH - 3.86 (0.27-4.2)
T4 - 16.7 (12-22)
T3 - 5.3 (3.1-6.8)
Vit D - 92
Folate - 14.7 (>2.9)
B12 - 118 (25-165)
Haemoglobin - 126 (115-155)
Ferritin - 38 (13-150)
Iron - 15.4 (6.6-26)
Calcium- 2.29 (2.20-2.60)
ESR - 15 (1-23)
CRP - <0.3 (0.0-5.0)
Many thanks

My experience is that of myofascial trigger points. I have active trigger points in virtually every skeletal muscle. Most people will have a trigger point in a specific area due to overuse of that particular muscle. There is also the tendency of pain to be referred to another area of the body. For example, if your gluteus muscles have active trigger points, it's possible that you'll experience the sensation that your hip joint is bad. Releasing those triggers points (I use a tennis ball inside a sock, then sit on it and roll around) will eliminate the hip pain and confirm that it's a trigger point issue.
The red flags of dermatomyositis are:
Rash on the eyelids, cheeks, nose, back, upper chest, elbows, knees, and knuckles. Scaly, dry, or rough skin. Trouble rising from a seated position or getting up after a fall. General tiredness.
Are you on any other medications, such as statins?
Did you exercise intensively prior to having this symptom?
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my query.
I looked further into the trigger points, there are lots of YouTube videos, so will try some of the exercises to see if that helps, thank you.
I don’t have any of the additional symptoms for dermatomyositis, so I doubt I have that to be honest.
Don’t take statins either or any other medications beyond thyroxine.
I am currently (after the pandemic) mainly in sedentary position. I work in an office and don’t do much exercise lately. Perhaps it’s time to change that.
