Collagen for Hair Growth?

Hello everyone. My hair has got worse (thinning and brittle) since being on T3/T4 combination therapy so I've been looking at what makes hair healthy and collagen keeps popping up as good nutritional support. I've also discovered another reason could be that I've been taking too much selenium and perhaps not enough biotin so I'm addressing that too. Vit D, Folate, Ferritin and B12 all at good levels at my last test at the end of April.

Does anyone take Collagen? If so, what kind and how much? Thank you.

My hair stopped falling out with T3 and raising my B12 level, I also took additional B5 based on something I read somewhere but have forgotten. That's a hugely cheering result but it's still fairly fuzzy. To be honest, I've found Olaplex gives a quicker result than supplements. I use the Olaplex No.8 Mask and the hair oil. Davines OI conditioner pretty amazing too.

I use either vital protein bovine collagen peptides or hunter gatherer collagen peptides- both are grass fed and free of GMO, antibiotics etc etc and contain both type 1 and 3 collagen. I've been using it daily for the past 3 or 4 years for extra protein and for general gut, hair, skin, nail, joint and bone health. Some people like marine collagen but that only contains Type 1 collagen. Incidentally, if you are taking iron supplements take them with a drink (not caffeine obvs unless its haem iron)containing collagen as it helps the body to absorb iron.

Thanks for this. I guess you must feel it makes a difference to continue to take it for so long. I’m not sure if I need the iron so will need to test before I start.

I started to take it mainly for gut health and it’s been part of a length protocol to repair my gut which I have successfully. I now no longer have any bloating, digestive issues etc.

I've found adding Total Amino has worked really well for me and has all the building blocks for whatever your body needs

Hello Eeyore. Thank you for replying. What brand do you use?

G & G... I've been using these for the last 8 months as I don't eat much meat and I'm very pleased with them... I have much thicker hair these days I actually have to get the hairdresser to take some weight out of it, it used to just come out by the handful!

~I rub in warm castor oil/olive oil - great for thin brows and hair generally - I use an organic one and leave it on a good 3 to 4 hours or longer if possible with plastic bag on head to hold in heat.

You can do this overnight too - also use marine collagen + silica gel which I buy here in NZ.

Good luck with all your choices~
