been reading that collagen tablets are good for hair and nail growth. Is this something I am okay to take with my levothyroxine and vit d?
collagen: been reading that collagen tablets... - Thyroid UK
collagen
jodes86baldwin,
Yes, ok to take with both but not at the exact same time as Levothyroxine (but alright with Vit D).
Many members take collagen for the glycine & glutamine, both of which contain anti-inflammatory & healing components that are excellent for gut health, and the good skin & nails are an additional advantage.
You just need to pick which brand carefully as many have unwanted fillers.
I buy collagen as a scoopable protein and add it to my smoothies, I’ve shopped around and find the MyProtein website often has discounts and I have never paid the full price. Reading Izabella Wentz I learned to make bone broth in the slow cooker, this releases the natural collagen and is quite delicious. The only thing I’ve been advised to avoid is the marine form of collagen made from seaweed as it’s not ideal for thyroid patients. I used to snack on crispy seaweed but apparently it’s not good for me! Instead I have the beef version sometimes called hydrolysed beef protein (all the same stuff as collagen). The other similar ingredient is gelatine, you can cook with this and it’s great for sensitive tummies and has all the same properties as collagen for skin hair and nails. I also buy L-Glutamine elite from My protein website which has settled my IBSy tum a treat, one scoop before breakfast, one last thing at night in a small glass of water. Helps with sleep and leaky gut. Main thing to note is it’s a sellers market out there, the wellness industry are making a fortune from us, so check ingredients carefully, especially for fillers, check £££ per gram and work out what is good value. I hope this helps 🦋💚🦋
How true! I’m tempted to write a ‘hack’ for all the expensive things suggested! Just have to find what works first. Good Luck 🦋💚🦋
I wonder if that is why my Mum thought eating a use of jelly a day was good for your nails...
Sorry my auto text stepped in there...to be clear, she recommended a cube of jelly a day...
