Looking for some private (no doctor) blood tests

Has anyone ever had the following tests done either with private blood draw or finger-prick testing?

I'd like to get all 8 B vitamins tested. They are listed in this link :

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B_vit...

Obviously I'd prefer them to be done as a bundle rather than individually. Testing individual vitamins or minerals usually turns out very expensive and is most likely beyond my budget. I know that B12 and folate tests are common, but I've never had any of the others tested that I can remember.

Thank you for finding those. They are shockingly expensive for single tests.

But I suspect the Smart Nutrition test(s) might be even worse - otherwise why keep their prices a secret?

Wow! That’s so expensive. I had no idea that it would cost do much for a comprehensive B test SD. I hope humanbean can arrange a discount!

I think there is a good chance that the cost is too high for my bank balance. I can't justify paying so much money for single tests. I wish I could ask a doctor at my surgery, but they all assume I'm a non-compliant hypochondriac already so I know the answer will be no.

Hi humanbean,

There's also this one; possibly more 'affordable', sort of? Phlebotomy is free!

Vitamin B profile includes B1 B2 B3 B6 B9 and B12 bloodtestslondon.com

£397.25

humanbean in reply to Hedgeree

If I had to go to London to get blood taken that would add another big chunk on to the cost (which seems to be the case but it isn't totally clear). I wouldn't get much change out of £500 even travelling off-peak. :(

I can safely say that I won't be getting the tests done that I wanted because they are simply unaffordable for me.

But thank you for looking. :)

I think my surgery would be the same; I’ve never managed to get the ‘health anxiety’ label off my records…… I did have high anxiety BUT it was due to being under medicated thyroid wise & having low key vitamins. Huge thanks to this forum for helping me sort the thyroid meds & vitamins, plus considerably reduce my anxiety levels!

humanbean profile image
humanbean in reply to Buddy195

I think I've been labelled with health anxiety too, but I also think I have many other labels, and I think at least some of them might have been there since I was a teenager, nearly 50 years ago.

Labels are a life sentence as far as the medical profession is concerned.

I would have got a much shorter sentence for murder.

anna-c in reply to humanbean

We get labelled because the medical profession to put it kindly do not have the knowledge and expertise, to put it not so kindly some are inadequate and useless and uncaring.... I could go on but sure you get the gist. Sorry you can't get the help you need on the NHS.

This is SO true HB!

Hi humanbean❤️I'm due to have my thyroid bloods done soon.. The last lot I had done my gp never did any minerals or vitamins and I can assume this next test will be the same, I'm like you I can't afford to get them done privately.

Being as we have thyroid problems and take synthetic meds for our thyroid hormones you'd think our surgery would be bound to include vitamin and minerals in our blood test, as they can also play a roll in how we are feeling, I honestly don't know why we pay national insurance 😠

Has anyone tried Hair Trace Mineral Analysis. I'm thinking of giving this a go? upgradedformulas.com/produc...

humanbean profile image
humanbean in reply to Kazzyloulou

I haven't. I have always struggled with the idea of using hair to test anything. I would be worried that shampoo and other hair products, car exhaust fumes, and general air pollution would corrupt the results. I haven't seen any information that would convince me otherwise.

Especially as several shampoos contain B (and other) vitamins!

I had forgotten that!

Have you looked at Regenerus or Genova Diagnostics? Maybe the NutrEval test covers some of what you are looking for.

I had the Medichecks Vitamins Test in June this year. It included B1, B2 and B6, amongst other vitamins. It cost £288 plus £30 phlebotomy. I find the costs vary with the different promotions they have each week. Black Friday is coming up, so they may have some good offers in a couple of weeks.

I think waiting for their next sale may be an excellent idea. If any blood testing company uses Black Friday as a reason for a sale the next one is on Friday 25th November 2022.

Has anyone ever done an Organic Acid Test?

Is it worthwhile doing?

Could it give results that were completely at odds with blood testing?

It costs £250, requires a urine sample rather than blood, and the Regenerus test needs to be sent off to the US (I think).

regeneruslabs.com/products/...

1) I would be worried that I would get a huge number of results (76, to be precise), that cost a lot of money, and I wouldn't have a clue how to interpret them. So essentially it would be wasted money.

2) Also, if any problems were found I wouldn't know how to fix them.

3) And if repairing any problems required prescriptions, no doctor would prescribe unless I went private. Which all makes the cost become much, much higher.

This is the analyte list for the above test (it hasn't copied well) - and its frightening in terms of the amount of research I'd have to do to get any understanding at all of what I had paid for :

Vitamin CVitamin B6Vitamin B2Vanilmandelate (VMA)UracilTricarballylicThymineTartaricSuccinicSubericSebacicQuinolinicPyruvicPyroglutamicPyridoxic (Vitamin B6)PhosphoricPhenylpyruvicPhenyllacticPantothenic (Vitamin B5)OxalicOroticN-Acetylcysteine (Glutathione precursor and chelating agent)N-AcetylasparticMethylsuccinicMethylmalonic Acid (MMA)Methylcitric (Biotin)MandelicMalonicMalicLacticKynurenicHVA/VMA RatioHVA/DOPAC RatioHPHPA (Clostridia marker)Homovanillate (HVA)HomogentisicHippuricGlycolicGlycericGlutathioneGlutaric (Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin))FurancarbonylglycineFuran-2FumaricEthylmalonicDihydroxyphenylacetic (DOPAC)DHPPA (beneficial bacteria)CreatinineCitricCitramalicCarboxycitricAscorbic (Vitamin C)ArabinoseAdipicAconiticAcetoaceticAcetate5-Hydroxymethyl-2-furoic5-Hydroxyindolacetate (5HIAA)4-Hydroxyphenyllactic4-Hydroxyhippuric4-Hydroxybutyric4-Hydroxybenzoic4-Cresol (C. difficile)3-Oxoglutaric3-Methylglutaric3-Methylglutaconic3-Methyl-2-oxovaleric3-Indoleacetic3-Hydroxyglutaric3-Hydroxybutyric3-Hydroxy-3-methylglutaric (CoQ10)2-Oxoisovaleric2-Oxoisocaproic2-Oxoglutaric2-Oxo-4-methiolbutyric2-Hydroxyphenylacetic2-Hydroxyisovaleric2-Hydroxyisocaproic2-Hydroxyhippuric2-Hydroxybutyric

This is a sample report :

cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0...

I can just imagine getting such a report and wailing "What does it all mean!?" although there is some interpretation provided.

humanbean profile image
humanbean

Has anyone ever done an Organic Acid Test (OAT)?

Was it helpful in any way at all?

Could you understand the interpretation of results you got sent?

If you could understand it, could you do anything about any problem results without involving a doctor?

I presume some types of result might need a prescription to fix. I wonder who I would get such a prescription from.

I have found this urine test which must be sent to the US for processing (I think) :

regeneruslabs.com/products/...

It analyses 76 or 77 markers (which don't copy well) :

Vitamin CVitamin B6Vitamin B2Vanilmandelate (VMA)UracilTricarballylicThymineTartaricSuccinicSubericSebacicQuinolinicPyruvicPyroglutamicPyridoxic (Vitamin B6)PhosphoricPhenylpyruvicPhenyllacticPantothenic (Vitamin B5)OxalicOroticN-Acetylcysteine (Glutathione precursor and chelating agent)N-AcetylasparticMethylsuccinicMethylmalonic Acid (MMA)Methylcitric (Biotin)MandelicMalonicMalicLacticKynurenicHVA/VMA RatioHVA/DOPAC RatioHPHPA (Clostridia marker)Homovanillate (HVA)HomogentisicHippuricGlycolicGlycericGlutathioneGlutaric (Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin))FurancarbonylglycineFuran-2FumaricEthylmalonicDihydroxyphenylacetic (DOPAC)DHPPA (beneficial bacteria)CreatinineCitricCitramalicCarboxycitricAscorbic (Vitamin C)ArabinoseAdipicAconiticAcetoaceticAcetate5-Hydroxymethyl-2-furoic5-Hydroxyindolacetate (5HIAA)4-Hydroxyphenyllactic4-Hydroxyhippuric4-Hydroxybutyric4-Hydroxybenzoic4-Cresol (C. difficile)3-Oxoglutaric3-Methylglutaric3-Methylglutaconic3-Methyl-2-oxovaleric3-Indoleacetic3-Hydroxyglutaric3-Hydroxybutyric3-Hydroxy-3-methylglutaric (CoQ10)2-Oxoisovaleric2-Oxoisocaproic2-Oxoglutaric2-Oxo-4-methiolbutyric2-Hydroxyphenylacetic2-Hydroxyisovaleric2-Hydroxyisocaproic2-Hydroxyhippuric2-Hydroxybutyric

A sample output from the test is given on this link :

cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0...

I have no idea how useful the test is, or what I can do with the results. I'm worried about paying out and receiving something I can't understand or do anything about.

I'd be interested in knowing if anyone found their test helpful and it helped to make a difference to their health.
