Nuffield blood tests

Has anyone here ever had blood tests for cortisol testing or thyroid panel done at a nuffield hospital and if yes could you reveal the costs involved.ive managed to get a replacement appointment with a recommended private endo and I reckon he’ll ask for more recent tests. Many thanks x

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

If/when also on T3, make sure to take last dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available.

Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

For thyroid including antibodies and vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

Both companies perhaps offer testing via Nuffield

If you can get GP to test vitamins and antibodies then cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3 £29 (via NHS private service )

Hi SlowDragon thank you for taking the time to respond.

I’ve had all the tests you outline and have the results printed ready to take with me but as I’ve been supplementing for over two months now I’m guessing he’ll want to redo as it’s my first appointment with him.he also doesent recognise the saliva tests apparently which I’ve had done with medichecks then Regenerus and they were terrible so I’m taking them with me too but I have been told he will do a 8am cortisol test which was why I asked if anyone had the tests done previously at nuffield,I’d just like an idea of costs involved but on reflection I’ll ring tomorrow again and ask thank you again x

Blood test are really expensive via the Nuffield. You can get a small disocunt if you are a BuPA member or any other insurance company as they have a bulk discount available to them which you can use. See pay is realy a windle to make money.

Or I would adivse using medichecks, WHY?? I have used other private blood tests in the past and the Endos love to wrggle out of their obligation and say these tests are not assayed. Medichecks are and most tests are taken by the Dr Labs which is the best company in the UK.

and they are reconised. I also strongly suggest to have you sex hormones and DHEA levels taken. Dont worry the sex homones will tell you in you are low in testostorne and oestrogen that can cause fatigue in its self and to see if you adreanal levels are correct. its a mine field. Good luck John C OH BTW A FULL THYROID Profile, if you register on line there is usually a dicount for thyiod patiens on a Thursday.
