I would like to order some blood tests to check thyroid and vitamins. My doctor requested some but then the lab didn't test for some saying I'd had them done in April 2018 - so would rather just order my own that go through the whole NHS process again.
Is this MediChecks test the best one to get? It's £99 and includes 10 tests.
That is a good, comprehensive test and you can use code THYROIDUK for 10% off the normal price. It requires 2 x microtainers of blood, each requiring 0.8ml, so consider if you can manage to do that. As a comparison, a teaspoon holds 5ml, you need a total of 1.6ml for 2 x microtainers.
If you think you might struggle then you can opt for venous blood draw at extra cost and will need to arrange phlebotomy.
Blue Horizon Thyroid plus Eleven is a comparable test and requires 1 x microtainer.
Thanks for the above, I opted for the Medi Check option using the 10% off code. Also opted for the venous blood draw so I know will be done correctly the first time with out going back and forth.
If you post your results, with reference ranges, when you have them, we will be happy to interpret them for you (Medichecks doctor's comments will toe the NHS line and aren't really worth having).
Thanks Susie, will do. I already suspect my B12 will be low as I stopped taking them a few months back as was having issues finding a suitable one - I took the one that is supposed to be better for us - but seemed to react quite badly. I am very interested to see what the bloods says and also getting back to optimal levels.
Thanks Photocopier - I opted for the Medi Checks Thyroid Check UltraVit. The kit arrived today - I'm getting the bloods taken at a clinic. A bit disappointed that the first appointment they have is on Monday. Almost wish I had a stab at taking the bloods myself now as could have been in the post this morning and back within a few days.
