Thank you for looking at my post. These are my latest blood results.
Ferritin 75 range 20-200
MCH 28 range 26-33
B12 931 range 170-600
Folate 45 range >8.0
Magnesium 0.8 range 0.6-12.0
My selenium and vitamin d didn’t get tested but I am sooo tanned this year(I live in New Zealand and it’s been summer so this should be good). I take 300mg of selenium a day and have been doing so for 9 months. I am a good converter of T4 to T3.
Any advice on how to proceed with B12. I’ve been taking 1000mg a day. Also should I start to take iron? MCH is always low at 28 and now ferritin is 75.
My GP tested these for me. Pretty lucky as he is good with my care. It’s been 6 months since these were last tested and my levels are improved or have into range. Ferritin and calcium were over range.
Any suggestions on how to proceed with B12 and ferritin
Thanks

I think that is rather a high dose of selenium to take on a permanent basis, although it is within the tolerable upper intake level. It may be fine, but I would suggest being wary. At least make sure you know the symptoms of selenium toxicity :
Testing B12 whilst supplementing is not a good idea as results will be skewed. The test reveals the amount of B12 circulating in the blood and only a small % will reach the cells - where it is needed.
B12 is water soluble so overdosing is rarely a problem. I would continue to supplement just in case !
Do you have any gut issues - not stomach but gut. B12 is absorbed in the Terminal Ileum for its return journey to the liver where it is stored. Gut issues can hinder this process ...
Great ! You could stop B12 and test again in 3 months or so. If there is a huge drop then you will know you do not absorb B12 well and need to keep on supplementing. Otherwise a good B Complex will give you a maintenance dose ...

Making me envious of the so tanned!
