I posted in here before that I was supplemented with eltroxin as my TSH was just under 4 and my fertility specialist wanted it below 2.5 for TTC.
I had a concern that in August before supplementation my TSH was 3.33 but my T4 was 14.4.
In November my TSH was 2.13 but T4 fell to 12.8.
My doctor spoke to the endocrinologist who didn’t want to increase my eltroxin but did agree to more tests today. So I’m waiting on my new results including T3 next week.
In the meantime we ran folate, B12, vitamin D and Ferritin. Just wondering if any of these mean anything to anyone
Serum Ferritin 22 (range 11-307 Ng/ml)
Serum Folate >20 (range 3.1 - 19.9 Ng/ml)
Vitamin B12 432 (range 120-650ng/L)
Vitamin D 98 nmol/L within optimal range)
(My doctor is not worried about folate being high as I’m on folic acid)
With my fertility screening I had anti TPO ( <9) and Anti TG Abs (<10) so negative for auto immune.
pernicious anaemia, auto immune diabetes , rheumatoid arthritis, early ovarian failure and pituitary tumors all related to under active thyroid are quite prevalent in my family.
Appreciate any advice or experiences anyone can share. We unfortunately suffered 2 miscarriages and I want to make sure my thyroid is working well before trying again. Thanks so much for reading.

You can’t just be a “little bit hypothyroid “ and only prescribed a little bit of levothyroxine
How much levothyroxine are you currently taking?
Standard starter dose of levothyroxine is 50mcg
Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose increase
Levothyroxine is increased slowly upwards in 25mcg steps until TSH is under 2
Most people will have TSH well under one when adequately treated
Most important results are ALWAYS Ft3 at least 50% through range and most likely Ft4 at least 60% through range
Dr Toft, past president of the British Thyroid Association and leading endocrinologist, states in Pulse Magazine,
"The appropriate dose of levothyroxine is that which restores euthyroidism and serum TSH to the lower part of the reference range - 0.2-0.5mU/l.
In this case, free thyroxine is likely to be in the upper part of its reference range or even slightly elevated – 18-22pmol/l.
Most patients will feel well in that circumstance.
But some need a higher dose of levothyroxine to suppress serum TSH and then the serum-free T4 concentration will be elevated at around 24-28pmol/l.
This 'exogenous subclinical hyperthyroidism' is not dangerous as long as serum T3 is unequivocally normal – that is, serum total around T3 1.7nmol/l (reference range 1.0-2.2nmol/l)."
(That’s Ft3 at 58% minimum through range)

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption
This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.
Thyroid disease is as much about optimising vitamins as thyroid hormones
Wow thank you so much for all the information. I’m going to start reading through all the links you mentioned so I can bring the information to my doctor as well.
I had a T3 test in August before being supplemented and it was at 4.32 pmol/l but no reference range. They didn’t take it since only TSH and T4 so I requested it as part of today’s bloods. (I was told though the labs may not do it as sometimes they deem it not necessary 😕)
I’m only on 25mcg of eltroxin - I spoke to my Aunt as well who has researched the family history on this and she said this is a nothing dose so I’m trying to get it elevated. My doctor originally wanted to put me every other day on 50mcg but changed her mind after speaking to the endocrinologist. I am speaking to my fertility specialist next week though so I think she might change my dose since she started me on it in the first place.
I’m not vegetarian but I don’t eat a lot of red meat. I eat mainly white meat and fish but try to incorporate a lot of green veg.
Iron is included in my pre conception supplement at 10mg and also his 1000mg of vitamin c. I also take later in the day another 1000mg of liposomal vitamin C.
I’m taking folic acid only but at the recommended dose of 400ug for TTC.
I have been told though that if I am successful in getting pregnant again they will change that to a prescription dose of 5mg as a standard recurrent loss protocol. M
Thanks again so much - I really appreciate all the information and advice.
