Magnesium oil and daytime sleepiness

Hi,

I've taken magnesium supplements (citrate or glycinate) for many years. For the last few nights, have either had a foot soak with magnesium flakes (magnesium chloride) or used a home made spray (very small amounts).

During each day, I've felt sleepier. I read a post on here that mentioned magnesium lowers your cortisol level but why do I not have that effect with supplements? Better absorption with the oil or flakes?

I have hpa axis dysfunction, so my cortisol is higher in the evening when it should be lower to prepare for sleep and vice versa in the morning.

Has anyone found the sleepy daytime feeling settles down after a while? It feels like I haven't fully woken up. Should I be using the oil during the day instead? I take between 200 mg and 400 mg magnesium glycinate spread throughout the evening and don't get the daytime sleepiness with them.

Epsom salts keep me awake, possible to do with the sulphur in them?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated 😊

I take vitamin c, thyroid medication, b12, d3 and k2 daily.

I have the same thing with flakes. The first time I used them I felt drunk and could barely stand

Are you ok with supplements though? Did you continue with them? Thanks for your reply 😊

I take malate mainly. Glycinate used to be ok with. Neither make me drowsy

It must be that the flakes are easier to absorb maybe? That's good that you're also ok with supplements.
