Magnesium oil or cream

I have hashimoto thyroid. Thinking of adding magnesium. Magnesium Malate is good for energy. Is it beneficial to take magnesium in oil or cream form since is it absorbed in the skin.

Also has anyone tried the latest boost drink in USA that claims to be good for thyroid?

Thanks

Some people use topical magnesium so why not try it. Personally I don't like the feel of it on my skin so I use an oral supplement.

I've no idea what the drink is that you have mentioned. Do you have a link to it, or at least a name so that it can be Googled?

OK, so I've looked at Boost Original. It's a multivitamin in drink form. Here are reasons not to take it:

1) It contains iodine. Before taking iodine we should be tested and only supplement if found to be deficient, then under the guidance of an experienced practioner. Iodine used to be used to treat overactive thyroid (I'm not talking about the radioactive iodine currently used) so it is likely to make hypothyroidism worse, and it's said it should be avoided if you have Hashi's.

2) It contains calcium. Before taking calcium we should be tested and only supplement if found to be deficient, and then this should be monitored by your GP.

3) It contains iron. Before taking iron we should be tested with an iron panel and full blood count. If there is iron deficiency or iron deficiency anaemia then your GP should prescribe iron tablets and monitor you. Also, iron has to be taken 2 hours away from any other supplements as it affects their absorption.

4) It contains Vit K. But it's the K1 form of the vitamin which is the blood clotting form.

5) It contains Folic Acid. If we need to supplement for low folate the best form is methylfolate. Folic Acid has to be converted by the body, methylfolate is the converted form.

6) The B12 it contains doesn't say which form, in which case it will be cyanocobalamin because it's cheap, it's also not the best form. Methylcobalamin is the best form.

7) The selenium it contains is the selenite form which is the least absorbable form. It's main use is in colourless glass and pet food and is produced using synthetic chemicals. The best form is Selenium l-selenomethionine which is chemically identical with the form selenium takes in the body.

Also, glucose syrup and sugar are listed as the 2nd and 3rd ingredients, the total sugar content they tell you is 40%.

Then there is soy, which we Hypos are best avoiding in all forms except, perhaps, fermented soy.

Best avoided and just to test core vitamins and address any low levels individually:

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

I agree, I don't like the oil, either. Doesn't feel good. I didn't know there was a magnesium cream, though. It rather depends on the magnesium content of the cream how much good it will do you. :)

Magnesium flakes in the bath leave skin lovely and soft.....but probably don't raise magnesium levels much

I love magnesium oil and make it myself with a cup of boiled distilled water and a cup of mag flakes. Decant when cold into spray bottles. You can add more flakes or water to make it less sticky.

Magnesium oil is great .. and as said in previous posts feels a little dry / oily on skin .. but it works well for most people with muscular pain issues .

I really like it and have been making my own for around six years .. the Magnesium is also good for your body anyway , as well as giving you pain killing properties .

Good luck

I got some irritation from the oil, but far less from lotion and gels. The gel has a slightly stronger concentration of Magnesium - and is good for back pain, but lotion /cream works very well on dry skin on the hands (and can help with joint stiffness) and other dry areas. I put Epsom Salts in the bath too.

Easy ... 1 cup Magnesium Flakes

1 cup Boiled water

Put Magnesium flakes in bowl then add the boiled water and stir till dissolved completely ..

Leave to cool and pour into glass spray bottles

It does make some people’s skin itchy but

Not everyone .. good luck
