Not posted here for a long while but as I have posted a number of times in the past on the subject of magnesium, I thought I would provide an update again.
Having tried all the various spray options I made a bit of a breakthrough when I found magnesium glycinate in 500 size pills. What has really helped is taking two a day.
This formula must be incredibly gentle on the stomach as I can tolerate it really well. And much more so than the various other formulations.
Interested to know anyone else with hypo going with the 1000 glycinate option.
You know how successful it is by stopping for a day or two and noticing what a huge difference it has made. If you buy via eBay in the special sealable bags the pricing is quite sensible too.

You need to know what that 500mg weight applies to.
Is it the weight of magnesium per pill or the weight of magnesium glycinate per pill?
If the weight refers to magnesium glycinate then according to wikipedia :
Magnesium glycinate, also known as magnesium diglycinate or magnesium bisglycinate, is the magnesium salt of glycine (one magnesium and two glycine molecules), and is sold as a dietary supplement.[1][2] It contains 14.1% elemental magnesium by mass. Accordingly, 100 mg of elemental magnesium is contained in 1410 mg of magnesium glycinate.
So if only 14.1% of your magnesium glycinate is actually magnesium then your 1000mg dose contains 141mg of magnesium, which is actually quite a low dose.
But if you are taking 1000mg of magnesium then that is a large overdose.
The upper limit of pure/elemental magnesium people should be taking per day is roughly 300mg - 400mg per day, and they should only take as much as that if they have functioning kidneys that can excrete any excess.
It could just be that you don't tolerate magnesium very well. Have you ever had your kidney function tested?
Anyone taking magnesium needs functioning kidneys in order to excrete excess magnesium. Otherwise the level of magnesium in your body can become toxic.
But of course, it could be the other part of your supplement that causes the problem not the magnesium itself. In other words, if you take, say, magnesium citrate, it could be the citrate part that causes you a problem. If you took magnesium chloride it could be the chloride causing an issue.
