Myo and D Chiro Inositol for Hashimotos

Hi all I’d really appreciate your thoughts.

I was diagnosed with Hashimotos around 6 years ago after gradually becoming very unwell with Hypo symptoms. Two years ago I found out the Hashimotos had destroyed my ovarian reserve and after a number of false starts and two rounds of IVF my consultant advised that egg donation would be the best route forward to becoming a mother.

I’ve now had two embryo transfers, one that sadly ended in miscarriage and another that just didn’t take.

I have recently had a pretty huge flare up from about Dec - March where I felt absolutely shocking, so fatigued and my legs were permanently swollen (which for me is a significant symptom). I was on steroids the whole time and gradually weaned myself off during lockdown.

At the moment I have good and bad days. The bad days are mainly symptoms of fatigue. That feeling of literal exhaustion. They happen on average about once a week.

My last blood results were taken on 4th March, following which I increased my dose from 125mg and 150mg alternate days of Levo to now taking 150mg daily, at my fertility consultants advice (they want my TSH under 1, as do I). I should also mention that I was on 5mg of folic acid daily between 29th Jan to 12 Feb which may account for the high Ferritin on 4th March.

Following my blood results I also introduced

200mg magnesium glycinate

200mcg selenium

3000IU Vit D

3000IU Vit K2 (last two from 3 sprays of betteryou dlux+)

I am also on a fully gluten free diet and have been since diagnosis (occasional slips which results in a dodgy tummy and swollen legs for a couple days)

I’ve read a few articles now about how Myo and D Chiro Inositol can help with fertility issues and in IVF and also how Myoinositol with selenium can help hashimotos symptoms. There is apparently a similarity between PCOS and Hashis as the have similar genetic triggers and symptoms...so I thought it could be worth giving Inositol a try.

I’ve managed to find a combined supplement of Myo and D Chiro Inositol (which is the best for fertility, I can only find articles testing myo for Hashis). Each capsule includes 500mg of myo and 12.5mg of d-chiro - fertility studies recommend 40:1 ratio. I wanted to get your thoughts about taking this? ...and if so how much? The manufacturer recommends 2000mg myo and 50mg of d-chiro (4 capsules) daily.

I also wanted to ask about omega 3’s (DHA 120mg and EPA 180mg) daily. Could this help?

I just really want to try and resolve the inflammatory element of my Hashis. I don’t ever seem to have managed that.

TYIA

When are these results from?

Obviously your vitamin D is very low

Did GP prescribe...or what are you taking?

Folic acid is to treat low folate

B12 and folate are essential to a baby’s neurological development...so important to get folate retested

Ferritin....is iron storage

Have you had anaemia...been give iron infusion?

Ferritin can be high due to inflammation of Hashimoto’s

But you might need to look into other reasons too

Hi SlowDragon

Results were from 4th March

As test was private and Covid hit, I’ve been self medicating with BetterYou Dlux+ for vitamin D.

Folic Acid was taken as part of my IVF cycle. I was prescribed 5mg daily while waiting to see if the embryo transfer took and I got pregnant (which I didn’t sadly).

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation...this can mean that you need folate rather than folic acid

thyroidpharmacist.com/artic...

Obviously you need to retest vitamin D regularly...at least twice year ...but especially before any future IVF

You can get full DNA testing here for MTHFR

mthfr-genetics.co.uk

Or they will evaluate other DNA tests that you may have had done already ...like Ancestry or 23 and Me

Before TTC thyroid levels need to be very stable

Pregnancy guidelines

TSH must be under 2.5

Thanks SlowDragon, The MTHFR gene variation info really did resonate with me. I’ll check it out.

My thyroid levels have been stable until the blip recently, however as I do medicated cycles of IVF all my hormone levels are controlled throughout the cycle and up to week 12 of gestation (should I be lucky enough to fall pregnant again and sustain the pregnancy) which I guess is helpful from the thyroid perspective.

My TSH has been under 1 for the last 2 years as I’ve been TTC, until the latest blip when it went up on my test to 2.16.

I’ll definitely be repeating all my bloods again before my next round of IVF (which hopefully will be late Aug)

Can I ask if you have any views on inositol?
