Should I take more NDT?

jaxie28 profile image

I am currently on 2 grains of NDT (I had a TT a year and a half ago after a Graves diagnosis) and am finding that I am still quite tired. I do not take anything else for my thyroid except supplements, i.e. Iron, Selenium, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Gingko, Zinc, Magnesium, Ashwagandha, and Biotin and was feeling great until about three weeks ago when I have started to feel tired again. I am going to get my bloods done asap but do you think I need a bit more NDT to prevent the tiredness? Any support would be grateful received as always x

If you change your dose now, you'll have to wait another six weeks before you can get labs done. No point in testing just after an increase in dose, because that will tell you nothing of any use. :)

So should I do my bloods before I increase and see what they come up with? Thanks so much for your reply, much appreciated x

Yes, do your bloods before you increase, and see what they say.

As you are taking supplements, are you monitoring your levels to know if you are taking an appropriate dose to give you optimal levels and not taking too much leading to toxicity of Vit D and iron.

Are you taking biotin as a separate supplement rather than a B Complex? Are you remembering to leave it off for 7 day before any blood tests?

As you are taking Vit D supplement, are you also taking Vit K2-mk7 to ensure that the extra calcium uptake from food is directed to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissue where it can be deposited and cause problems?

I would check your nutrient levels before increasing NDT to ensure levels are good.

Although Ashwagandha is an adaptogen and meant to be balancing, are you aware that it can lower cortisol?

Thank you for your response, I'm very grateful.

I take Biotin as a separate supplement to my B Complex. I will leave off for seven days before I take a blood test.

I am not taking Vit K2-mk7 which I will do now that you have suggested it.

I need to lower my cortisol as I had a high reading of that when I had a cortisol test done and that was impacting my NDT in that it was making me very anxious.

I think I'll stop Biotin for seven days, introduce Vit K2-mk7 and then take my bloods in a couple of weeks to see what my levels are like and then that might indicate if I need more NDT?

Your advice is so appreciated thanks again x

Check your B Complex as well, it usually contains biotin (B7) so that will also need to be left off before any blood tests.

You can post your new results when you have them and we can comment. Don't increase your NDT until you have your new results back.
