Hi so I posted the following last wednesday:

Hi I previously posted my NHS thyroid tests a few weeks ago which were tsh 3.7 T4 14.7

local ranges are Tsh 0.2-4.0 T4 10-20 T3 0.9-2.5

As my tsh looked to be borderline and given the symptoms I have been having plus the fact that my sister has hashimotos I decided to do the full thyroid screen with medichecks. The results are in and I have to have the foliate retested however I have the main ones I need. I feel like the doctors comments contradict some of the results. Anyway I have a gp appointment tomorrow at 7.50am and appreciate any advice thanks xx

My ferritin is 62.7 (13-150)

Active b12 73.5 (37.5 - 188)

VITAMIN D 51.1 (50-175)

Tsh 5.45 (0.27-4.2)

Free T3 3.88 (3.1-6.8)

T4 13.9 (12-22)

Thyroglobulin antibodies 275 (<115)

Thyroid peroxidase 51.5 < 34

So the update today is that I have been to my gp and he would not acknowledge the medichecks results. He said that my NHS tests previously showed normal. I told him that my antibodies were not checked under the NHS and they are raised in the medichecks test indicating an autoimmune condition (hashi) also my tsh has increased and is over range. He said that he cannot prescribed levo as NICE guidelines state that Tsh have to be over 10. A trial of levo can be prescribed if the patient is presenting under 10 but also has symptoms - which I have!! He said he can't take these into account as they are not NHS tests so long story short he wants me to have all the tests redone including coeliac and a heart trace. Im having all this done tomorrow

Update today!: I've been and got a print out from the gp which states my last tests are all normal.

The thyroid ones are:

Se thyroid peroxidase ab conc 96 iu/ml (<100iu/ml)

They don't test the thyroglobin antibodies

Tsh 4.3 miu/L (0.20-4.0)

Serum free T4 13.8 pmol/L (10-20pmol/L)

Im confused do I have a thyroid issue do I have hashimotos as was previously suggested by medichecks. Where can I go from here?

Thanks

I'd say you probably have Hashi's but someone more knowledgable than me will be along soon to comment. Al I can say is the exactl same thing happened to me - i.e. the NICE guidelines got traipsed out yet the G.P was full of contradictions. I would want to know why the Medichecks is not being accepted. I don't know what NHS guidelines are around this but it might be worth finding out. Also I think that many of these private blood companies (Lets get checked for example) use the same labs as NHS anyway? Honestly I gave up and paid £200 to see a private endo in the end who diagnosed me. It's a one-off fee (so far) as he's been very good about me emailing him my bloods and adjusting my levo dose. Is there another G.P in the practice? Don't lose heart - it's definitely worth having a levo trial which may well make you feel better. Have you had vitamins done? Someone on here will likely advise that too. Good luck :)

Thanks, honestly it's absolutely crazy! I had the same thing when I was going through fertility problems and IVF!!! You don't happen to be in the Yorkshire area do you? Just wondering about your endo

I went to London for my endo (kingston to be precise). There are some nearer you I think (including NHS ones). Have you emailed for a list? I'm not sure who you email on here but I'll have a look and see if I can find out from my email.

That NHS range on TPO antibodies seems extremely odd. It's usually same range as Medichecks

GP should be testing vitamin D, folate , ferritin and B12 as well as coeliac blood test

Was NHS test done early morning and fasting?

Your results show TSH over range (just) and low Ft4

Push GP to retest again in 2-3 months

NHS refuses to test TG antibodies if TPO antibodies are negative.

Your Medichecks test shows vitamin D is too low.

GP will only prescribe to bring vitamin D up to 50nmol. Aiming to improve by self supplementing to at least 80nmol and around 100nmol may be better .

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Retesting twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is good as avoids poor gut function.

It's trial and error what dose each person needs. Frequently with Hashimoto's we need higher dose than average

Thanks I have got the vitamin spray. I thought that too about the NHS TPO range there is a huge difference between that and Medichecks. The GP did say that I would have a coeliac test but it wasn't on the print out I picked up.

Based on the combination of the medichecks and NHS tests do I have Hashis?

Difficult to say

Suggest you get GP to retest in 2 months
