Poor conversion probably due to low Ferritin - Folate and VitD. 😊 Iron Anaemia ? What are you taking for your thyroid ? Supplements ?

Hi

I have been on 200mcg of T4 only for years and years...GP will test for TSH and nothing else!! GP will not EVER prescribe T3...as far as he is concerned...it isn't needed!!!

I am on Igennus Super B complex, one a day and taking the oral spray from Better you for vitamin D (DLUX3000) x 2 sprays daily

Were the results above done whilst supplementing ? - or before ? Are you taking VitC with your Iron supplement - to aid absorption ?

Yammie1973 profile image
Yammie1973 in reply toMarz

Hi, test done whilst supplementing, except for a week before test for B complex as biotin interferes with testing. I can't ingest vitamin C in even the smallest amounts as it causes my eczema to flare badly. Kind of a lost cause really...in all areas!!

.... supplementing and still your results are low. Have you tried under the tongue iron spray ? How long have you been supplementing ?

Yammie1973 profile image
Yammie1973 in reply toMarz

Yes, bit D spray, B and ferrous sulphate tablet form. Supplementing since last private bloods in October '18

... maybe try the under tongue iron spray

So your vitamins are all poor

Folate below range

B12 borderline

Vitamin D below range

Ferritin terrible

What vitamin supplements do you currently take?

Presumably you stopped any vitamin B complex a week before testing

Are you vegetarian?

Are you on strictly gluten free diet?

GP should prescribe folic acid, but you may be better off taking a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid may be beneficial. This would also help B12

chriskresser.com/folate-vs-...

B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast

Recommended brands on here are Igennus Super B complex. (Often only need one tablet per day, not two. Certainly only start with one tablet per day after breakfast. Retesting levels in 6-8 weeks ).

Or Jarrow B-right is popular choice, but is large capsule

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

How much vitamin D are you supplementing?

humanbean or SeasideSusie may comment on iron results

Your FT3 is very low, you are poor converter

Getting vitamins optimal may help improve this, but you are likely too need addition of small dose of T3 too

But need vitamins optimal first ideally

Have you had DIO2 gene test?

Hi Slow Dragon

I am taking the following supplements: Better you DLUX300 vitamin D spray x 2 sprays daily, Igennus Super B complex, 1 x daily, Ferrous sulphate for iron. I stopped ALL vitamin tablets that contained any Biotin a week before the test as told I was told to by you.

I am not vegetarian - far from it. I am not affected by gluten in my diet, I have no problems digesting it, never have experienced any side effects of eating gluten that I am aware of.

So you need to continue to improve vitamins

Vitamin D - so you are currently taking 2 x 3000iu daily?

Are you taking the one with added vitamin K2?

betteryou.com/vitamin-d-k2?...

Are you supplementing magnesium too?

High dose vitamin D, needs magnesium too

Suggest you increase Igennus Super B to two tablets per day (am & pm)

Have you ever tried lactose free diet?

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/240...

Lactose intolerance occurs at a high frequency in HT patients. Lactose restriction leads to decreased levels of TSH, and LI should be considered in hypothyroid patients who require increasing LT4 doses, have irregular TSH levels and are resistant to LT4 treatment.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/247...

These findings show that lactose intolerance significantly increased the need for oral T4 in hypothyroid patients.

Suggest you email Dionne at Thyroid Uk for list of recommended thyroid specialists who will prescribe T3

Roughly where in the UK are you?

Are you eating iron rich diet? Especially liver or liver pate once a week. Plus vitamin C alongside ferrous fumerate.

How many ferrous fumerate tablets per day?

Yammie1973 profile image
Yammie1973 in reply toSlowDragon

Hi

A) yes 2 X sprays of DLUX 3000 daily.

B) I take a separate K2 tablet daily

C) No magnesium

D) Not on any 'free' diet. I barely eat most days with working and looking after my mum with Alzheimer's, let alone have the time and effort to concentrate on avoiding certain food types. I cannot eat seafood of any kind or description as I go into anaphylaxis if I do eat seafood.

E) I live in East Anglia, Cambridgeshire.

F) I can't stomach liver and never eat paté either, I become seriously ill. Most other meats like beef, pork, lamb...no problems.

G) Vitamin C, my body only tolerates in microscopic amounts.

H) I take two ferrous sulphate tablets per day, more than the recommended dose but the blood results still say that my levels are still abismal.

Sorry for the bullet points, it helps me keep my train of thought, no offence intended.

Thank you for your advice. It is greatly appreciated. 😊

Hi, I forgot to answer the question re Di02 test. No, never had it done, chiefly because of cost but they insist on sending the results to your GP....to be honest and to quote 2 clichés - he is about as useful as a chocolate teapot and the genetic report would be like throwing pearls at swine.

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply toYammie1973

They don't insist on sending results to GP

It's a private test and counselling is with you alone

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Counselling is compulsory to discuss the implications of the results

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

The fact your mum has Alzheimer's may suggest she might have DIO2 gene variation
