Is fluttering in my chest a thyroid symptom?

As per my recent post, my latest blood results (April 2019) are:

APRIL 2019 BLOOD TEST RESULTS:

TSH: 1.01 (0.27 - 4.2)

Free Thyroxine: 20.100 (12 - 22)

Free T3: 4.95 (3.1 - 6.8)

Active B12: 203.00 (37.5 - 188) (I stopped taking Thorne Basic B 2 weeks before the blood draw due to my original appointment being re-scheduled for a week later)

Folate - serum: 12.06 (>3.89)

Vitamin D: 104 (50 - 175) (recently changed to Healthspan 4000iu spray at 40,000 per week)

Ferritin: 251 (30 - 400)

Thyroglobulin antibodies: 30.000 (<115)

Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies: 276 (<34)

Following advice, I have stopped the Thorne Basic B Complex completely to try to get my B12 down again (so no B12 for about 5 weeks), and started Cytoplan B Complex (with no B12 in it) to replace the Thorne about 4 days ago. Then, 2 days ago, I started to experience fluttering in my chest. I have never experienced this before, and the only thing I have changed recently was to replace the Thorne Basic B Complex with Cytoplan B Complex (the Cytoplan has noticeably lower levels of everything in it, compared to the Thorne).

Could the fluttering be caused by something in the Cytoplan B Complex? Or is it a normal hypo symptom that I haven't experienced before? Or could it be nothing thyroid-related, and I should consult my GP? All thoughts gratefully received :-)

I would stop the Cytoplan B Complex for a few days and see what happens. If the fluttering continues I'd book an appointment with your GP.

Thanks Susie - that's what I was thinking, but wasn't sure if it might be a rare thyroid symptom!!

Well, anything's possible but if it was a thyroid symptom for you then I would have thought you might have experienced it before. All we can do with new symptoms that coincide with something we change is to stop whatever it is we've changed and see if everything goes back to normal. Hopefully it's as simple as that for you and it's just something in the new supplement.

If it doesn't settle down then when you ring the surgery for an appointment, make sure you tell them that you can feel this fluttering in your heart, they may do an ECG at the surgery straight away. It only takes a couple of minutes with the nurse, then a GP looks at the reading, so it can be done with a normal appointment.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks again Susie, and for the tip about saving time at the surgery :-)

From what I know heart fluttering and many other minor heart actions are a common problem with hypothyroidism and seem to develop through time but no idea how Cytoplan B Complex might effect this, it might be just coincidental. Good advice below.

Thanks Ann, I’ll stop worrying for the time being! :-)

I've had a few different kinds of "Fluttering". The first, not long after being diagnosed with a hypothyroid problem, was rather weird, felt as if a large moth was trapped under the top of my breastbone. My eyes felt strange too, it was as if a black and white image was slowly moving down inside my closed eyelids. Neither lasted long though. More recently I had an episode of irregular heartbeat, as if every 1-3 beats was an extra large thump. That didn't last too long either so I didn't ring the doctor. However, if it persists, makes you really breathless or becomes really uncomfortable you do need to ring for help

Thanks, that's all very reassuring. I didn't take my new brand of B Complex this morning at breakfast and so far today (5.00 pm) there's been no fluttering. Fingers crossed!!
