Vitamin deficiencies

After blaming my poor health (anxiety, fatigue, tinnitus, muscle aches etc) on hypothyroidism I’ve come to the conclusion that maybe it’s vitamin deficiencies. It was because of this forum that I pushed my doctor to test at least b12 and D and both were low -

B12 - 288

D- 22

Magnesium 1.8

TSH .33

T3 2.79

T4 1.6

My doctor doesn’t think my B12 is low but said I could supplement if I wanted to. Also wrote me a prescription for D2 20,000 units per week - which made me feel terrible.

Since these results I have been taking a grocery store b complex every day and half of a 1000 mgs Jarrow sublingual every other day. In the past b vitamins have really stirred up my anxiety so I’ve been taking it slow.

The vitamin D is hit or miss. I’ve been trying to get some sunshine and occasionally take a D3 supplement but after a few days of the supplement I feel terrible. And I tried adding magnesium but I can’t make friends with that either...

Adding supplements to my daily routine stresses me out! I’m afraid to over do it and cause an imbalance or make things worse.

I hope that I can get some advice for supplementing B12 and D. I just really want to make sure I’m supplementing correctly.

Thanks so much for any info that you can share.

D2 is the wrong kind of Vitamin D to supplement. It needs to be Vitamin D3 that you take.

To determine your ideal dose of Vitamin D3 and the target level you should be aiming for we would need to know the units of measurement for the Vitamin D result you've given.

I understand that but obviously my doctor doesn’t, so I’ve been supplementing with a D3 liquid but it still makes me feel blah..

Thanks for the reply. I questioned my doctor about PA and she totally dismissed it, again she doesn’t think my b12 is low.

I had my thyroid removed in 2010 and been on synthroid ever since.

And like I said, I’m hesitant to supplement because I don’t want to do it incorrectly and obviously my GP isn’t onboard with supplements- she gave me D2 20,000 units to take once a week and pushed lexapro. Even I know that D3 is preferable.
