Insomnia after taking Armour for the first time

Hi everyone!

Has anyone experienced insomnia after taking Armour or another NDT for the first time? I took 1/2 grain yesterday at 8 a.m. (with STTM thinking that the starting dose is 1 grain) and could not at all fall asleep in the evening.

ETA: Sorry, maybe more information is indeed needed. I have hypothyroidism, no Hashimoto's, I take vitamin C, D and B-complex for my adrenals and Thorne's Adrenal Cortex Extract for low daytime cortisol (I've been on the current dose for a while so it cannot stem from that). My vitamins and minerals have been tested and are now all optimal or close to, including iron. I'm not on a gluten-free diet: the sensitivities test determined I'm not at all sensitive to gluten. 1/2 grain of Armour contains 19 mcg of T4 and 4.5 mcg of T3. It was my first time taking it.

What are your vitamin levels, do you supplement to improve if they are low, do you have Hashimoto's, are you on gluten free diet.

What dose Levo were you on and for how long etc

If you give some more background members can comment

So you have not been on Levothyroxine at all? Never taken any Thyroid replacement hormone

What was your last TSH, FT4 and FT3.

No, I haven't. Last TSH= 4.380, FT3=2.67, FT4=10.67

Can you add ranges

Why not start on Levothyroxine, GP should prescribe if FT3 and/or FT4 below range

Many do well on it, it's free and much easier to manage

Sorry, I chose the ndt for a reason and am looking for people with the same experience as mine re: insomnia. I know some community members here are taking natural thyroid hormone.

I have never had insomnia I had my thyroid removed in 2015 and take NDT. I had everything else wrong when taking Levo but not insomnia!

In my experience I get insomnia when the liver is struggling. Maybe you’re not converting the T4 and you’re toxic? Any side affects? I couldn’t convert the T4 in NDT’s and did better on T3.

Thanks, Shunty! I also got stomach pain and nausea 10 minutes after I took it. What should I test? AST ALT for liver? Reverse T3 would show if I have the conversion problem, right?

It sounds very much to me like you’re toxic. Been there many times. I’ll pm you.

Why do you take NDT? Have you posted your thyroid blood test results with the ranges?
