Hi

I got some of my blood results back today can anybody help me with the results.

T4 16 ranges (9-21)

T3 1.5 ranges (0.9-2.4)

TSH 1.3 ranges (0.2-4.5)

B12 262 ranges (180-2000)

I am awaiting ferritin and free T3

I am feeling quite unwell alot the past two weeks and wondering if these results can shed any light on anything? Currently on T3 and T4 combo trial

Your B12 is very low. GP should probably investigate and test for Pernicious Anaemia before perhaps starting B12 injections

You need folate tested too. This works with B12. If that is low as well, definitely push for testing, before probably starting injections or supplementing sublingual B12 lozenges

Do you have any symptoms of low B12?

What about vitamin D?

Hi

Thanks for your reply :)

This is very interesting, I already have Hashimotos and could well also have this too. My GP told me on my notes today that these results are 'satisfactory' which is disgusting to be honest as I have been ill for a few weeks now.

My symptoms currently include extreme fatigue, brain fog that is very bad up until lunchtime, sore joints, poor concentration, hot flushes now and again and unexplained bouts of diarrea on and off. What test can they do to determine if you have Pernicious Anaemia, I see my Endo on Friday and can ask her to test this for me hopefully she will help.

My vitamin D was low before I will find the reading but I take vitamin d everyday to supplement this deficiency!

If your antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).

About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's

Essential to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12. Always get actual results and ranges. Post results when you have them, members can advise

Hashimoto's affects the gut and leads to low stomach acid and then low vitamin levels

Low vitamin levels affect Thyroid hormone working

Poor gut function can lead leaky gut (literally holes in gut wall) this can cause food intolerances. Most common by far is gluten

According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps significantly.

Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)

But don't be surprised that GP or endo never mention gut, gluten or low vitamins. Hashimoto's gut connection is very poorly understood

Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal and slowly lower TPO antibodies

Ideally ask GP for coeliac blood test first

Persistent low vitamins with supplements suggests coeliac disease or gluten intolerance

Hi

I already have a diagnosis for Hashimotos I was just thinking I might have the Pernicious Anaemia like you mentioned as I have alot of B12 related symptoms and my b12 is low on the latest reading above.

How can I get my endo to test me for Pernicious Anaemia? I doubt she will test me for it :( what test is required?

Your GP should run Pernicious Anaemia tests test BEFORE you start supplementing any B vitamins or B12

Usually it's that low B12 is result of Hashimoto's not being adequately treated, rather than actual Pernicious Anaemia. Often does still require B12 injections

You could ask on PAS healthunlocked

healthunlocked.com/pasoc

Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disease, so it's more likely to get another.

Endocrinologists are generally completely disinterested in gut, gluten or vitamin levels. God knows why. We don't get better without sorting all that out

By the far the majority with Hashimoto's are non coeliac gluten intolerant, but it's best to get coeliac testing BEFORE giving up gluten totally

Unless you are already gluten free?

I am gluten free and dairy free though I do have the occasional slip up with gluten but not frequently.

I am not sure how I would go about getting b12 infections as my GP isn't even interested in going over low results with me and telling me they are normal when I am not well.

Is it worth me mentioning to my Endo when I see them and see if they will help with testing?

I would ask advice on PAS healthunlocked

They are B12 experts

If you get nowhere with GP, see a different one. Or ask endocrinologist, but they may be disinterested

Or many of us supplement sublingual B12 lozenges daily, plus daily good vitamin B complex
