I'm a bit shocked about my latest blood work taken on the 28th March 2021..
T3..16.5....range..3.10...6.80pmol/L
T4..2.5...range.. 11.00..22.00pmol/L
Tsh.. 0.1..range..0.30...4.50..mU/L
Ive been on T3 only for about 4 months..my last blood results before this was 1st Feb.. My T3 was 3...ranges..3.10..6.80..pmol/L
T4..2.8... Ranges.. 11.00..22.00pmol/L
Tsh..14.5..ranges.. 0.30..4.50mU/L
It looks like my T3 has shot up!!
I'm not bothered about my TSH or T4, as being on T3 medication only will lower both, but what should I do?? I'm I over medicated? I'm on 35mg split in to 3, I was going to add another 5mg to make it 40mg but now I'm lost.. Why as my T3 shot up.. 🤷♀️

Hi... Should read shot up... 😏😏I've not been to well for sometime now but was diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism last Aug waiting to see endo in June,, on this sheet I have with the new blood results it says this beside all, T3, T4 TSH.... ACTION!!! please forward to endocrinologist) I don't know what's going on... I have no thyroid as it was removed due to graves, no one in my surgery has contacted me about this I just picked the results up this morning 🤷♀️..
Sorry for typo birkie! When you say you haven’t felt well for a while, what symptoms are you experiencing? I’ve no experience of hyperparathyroidism, but I’m sure knowledgeable members will be able to offer sound advice.
HiSorry I thought I'd done the typo 😂.. Obviously when I was hyperthyroid(graves) i ad all the awful symptoms especially a fast heartbeat, sweating bad, tremor, just every thing was hyper OK that's to be expected, when I was having my thyroidectomy I asked my surgeon if all these symptoms would go his answer YES, but I've never felt hypo even after having bloods showing hypo, I've always felt hyper, I saw my new gp recently and he actually asked me if I was on some kind of stimulant, speed, 😧, no I'm not only T3... And only on 35mg!!, my symptoms consist of sweating bad, fast heartbeat especially on doing things, like getting up, going to the loo, making a cuppa and the worst turning over in bed, I don't know why but my heart beats out of my chest, it did this even before I took any thyroid meds, my surgeon noted hyper symptoms after surgery this has continued the only thing that's improved is the tremor, I've recently had an ECG.. Which showed nothing (normal) the lady who did it said I would probably need a 48hour heart monitor on, I really thought I'd cracked it with the T3, do you think I'm over medicated? Because I've had hyper symptoms for so long I can't tell if I am or not.. 🤷♀️
I have Hashimotos with TED, but can relate to the hyper symptoms.... my Endo just organised a plasma metanephrines test (?) as I had fast pulse/ tremor, but I think that was because I was over medicated. The last time it happened was again when I adjusted my dose & I had the heart monitor for 24 hours. Luckily it calmed down when I got used to my dosage.
Hi buddy195💖It's strange you mentioned TED, I had graves and you can have this eye condition with graves, my eyes are the worst they have ever been, they water all the time, sometimes it's like looking through watery milk, they are very puffy, on the lids and underneath I mentioned this to my gp sometime ago but he never acted on it, I have promised myself I will go to my opticians soon, I wear glasses for distance, 💖
Try to see a TED specialist ophthalmologist if you can. I spoke with TEDct & they recommended a specialist in my area. Cost £125 for consultation. He then wrote to my GP & recommended T3 to reduce inflammation & eye drops (which now get on NHS). I have to wear reactive prescription glasses (darken in sun) as I’m now very photo sensitive. I supplement daily with Selenium & lutein & zeazanthin (eye complex 7 from Amazon).
Hi greygoose 💖My last dose was 8 pm... My blood draw was 9am I do not take my 7am dose of 10mg, I drink only water before draw and stop vitamin D, I split my T3 dose over 3, 7am 10mg, 1pm 20mg 8pm 5mg..it does seem strange given my last T3 result was 3...done on the 1st Feb.. Same condition early morning no thyroid medication no vit D.. I've been on 35mg from 1st Feb I increased it from 30mg,..lets say I took my 10mg at 7am and I had my blood draw at 9am would it raise the T3 that much.. (16.5) just curious, a T3 level of 16.5 would that not indicate over medicated?
lets say I took my 10mg at 7am and I had my blood draw at 9am would it raise the T3 that much..
Impossible to say. Maybe, but these things are totally unpredictable. It certainly would make it a false high, though.
a T3 level of 16.5 would that not indicate over medicated?
Well, it might... If you trust that result to be true. Personally, I don't. And, if it were me, I'd want a retest before lowering my dose. It is not logical for the level to shoot up that much, on the same dose, in four months. I would suspect some sort of testing error. You're not taking biotin, are you?
No don't take boltin...I struggled so badly on T4 after my gp and endo put me on it then later put me back on it, eventually they said I was not absorbing, so they put me on T3, but at 125mg in one dose, I found this to be to much, I re started lower down with 10mg until I have now tolerated 35mg, splitting the dose.. I was going to increase again by 5mg making 40mg..I can't say I feel well I don't, but I was diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism in Aug last year, the endo has only put me on vitamin D my parathyroid hormone has come down, but that is to be expected whilst on vitamin D, but my calcium remains high, so my new gp has got me an appointment with another endo, June 2nd, could I have a re set of my T3 in 2wks, I'm having a blood draw on the 13th of April for ionised calcium?
Sorry been asking slowdragon about the T3 being high...Thanks greygoose I'm a bit confused about this T3, though I was heading in the right direction, well at least I've got my TSH down.. Will request another T3 blood draw, rining the surgery now..
